GAA suggestions thread

Post by SveinR »

This is an around-the-year suggestion thread for the Golden Apple Awards. Here you can post good levs, recs, etc. throughout the year, whenever you come across some you deem suitable for the GAA. In this way, people will easier remember what candidates to suggest in the GAA voting process when it starts at the end of the year. Thus, there will no longer be as many omitted candidates at the end of the first step.

To keep this thread simple and easy-to-read, I think everyone should try to keep just one post where they put all their own suggestions, and then edit that one post as the year goes by and they come up with new candidates to suggest. Edit: I've removed this restriction.

Note that making suggestions in this thread will not make you eligible to vote in the GAA third step; you will still need to make suggestions in the first step of the voting process.
Was it cast for the mass who burn and toil?
Or for the vultures who thirst for blood and oil?

Internalist:
Zweq
- Cruising WRs, never mindless hoyling, great stylefinder, most rawskilled player in the scene.
Raven - Had a quite sick period earlier this year with lots of new WRs, quite inactive (or #302 will tell) lately but his times from spring are worth a GAA nomination.
Kazan - Climbed up to 3rd place in TT recently, some great times and WRs.
Jarkko - Internals is often about pure hoyling and this guy can hoyl his ass off which often ends up with sick WRs. Rising WR-player.

Externalist:
adi
- Apart from pwning my JoPi-pack he pwns a lot else too :)

WR:
Zweq's Bowling 52.44
Cap's ZZ 55.19
Jarkko's Uphill 19.79

Contribution:
Pawq
- Just a normal user but still highly motivated of keeping the scene alive by frequently updating the TT-thread now that Moposite is dead.
Smibu - Creator of Replay Manager.

Level:
FFC407 by Igge
- Insanely addictive level ;(

Art
Jappe
- For his generally great videomaking, not for any movie in particular.

Cup
Banana Cup 04 is already a success. The title, mocking all seriousness of other cups, and the pretty innovative concepts showcased in every single event. I'm too busy to participate, but from a distance I can already acknowledge the briliance, henceforth suggesting it here.

more to come, ofcourse. ;)

Perhaps an even better idea is to make this sticky, and a discussion topic next to it, so this thread will remain usable as a 1 post per person list of suggestions.

I think this thread has somewhat lower activity than I expected, so I'm removing the restriction on keeping this a one-post-per-user topic. Hopefully this will increase the activity and the visibility of the topic. After all, having this being an active and living thread is a lot more important than it being easy-to-read.

It can be hard to know whether someone is new or old. That's why last year the rookie category was changed so that it's about people who have recently joined the scene. It's always been a dumb category though.

Rookie: torrents.ru
it isn't a single person.
one can download belma from russian torrent-tracker torrents.ru, the name of the player by default is set as "torrents.ru", so it could be anyone (or alltogether) of that lazy people who prefer not to change settings.

there's a slight difference in that i first saw the game on that same january, but still there's no arguing in that your times kick my times's ass pretty badly (tho i'll bust your times some day)

And ye, rookie GAA is a bit controversial and indistinct. But I think you both are valid nominees for this year, because you joined the scene in this year.

ez contribution for Smibu, mostly for replay manager and level manager. Fixes and updates and adds new features at fast rate. Also for fixing some things in ALE.

The most important thing is, that this stuff is really useful and has been taken to frequent use by many (at least replay manager).
Prolly nothing like these programs would've never been done if Smibu didn't do teh.

That's a very good point. Smibu has made life easier and more interesting with these programs plus they're easy to use and do not have much bugs and so on.

on the other hand Pawq has used very much time(?) and effort(?) to keep his two (40s' and pro-recs) projects up to date so i admire his machine-like persistence there, altough neither of his projects doesn't benefit me in any way (i just recognize his contribution)

So hard to say for me....maybe smibu, his programs are so damn fun and useful
