I streamed a few 1h tt attempts with timer to practice. If it went bad early on I would simply start over.
But life happened and after that I haven't tried any more, but it sure was fun!

The attempts are gone from twitch though, my goal was 38 TT.

Here is stats with animal and apple harvest unfinished and without sc in 44 freefall, the best I got at the time I was hoyling viewtopic.php?p=236435#p236435
The times are pretty equal to Kazans, many worse but many better too.

You can use in-game skips, unless you going for 100%. And you must play levels in order from a fresh start, obv.

If Any%, which is best mode, use the last skip for apple harvest.

Timer stops the moment you begin 55. Timer starts the moment you begin 1.

Post twitch guys.

Never thought about it like this, but that's actually true for other games, so why not for elma? You just want to ge to the "finish" as fast as possible, so skips should be allowed. I almost forgot, that something like that exist in the game :D (I use the same state.dat everywhere).

Sure, this takes away the under-pressure-fun of hoyling int33 and int54 (those are crazy in 1hTT, at least 4 me) and 3 other sik levs, but the runs're gonna be much more consistent like this.

But we are still talking in kinda imaginary world, where something like "elma appears on GDQ" happens. For our needs, 1hTT is much more amazing, imo Image

I'd say that finishing all the levels would be the main thing anyway, imo not very cool to skip the 5 coolest levels that give the biggest challenge anyway. Of course anyone can do single-segment runs with any settings they want but I hope that's gonna be the main thingy if more people get interested.

Yeah 100% is the more interesting run.

That way we also make sure no glitches fuck up the consistency, a la Zelda Ocarina of Time Any% which is just an unfunny ultra-optimized glitchfest.

There are all sorts of different percent categories in various games. For example, 100%, Any%, Glitched%, Demo% and Japan%, to name a few.
Some seem kind of stupid, but ultimately 100% is the most appreciated. Though I can imagine Demo% in Elma (levels 1-18) might be fun to hoyl.

Please don't name a category with % without a number or a word related to actual percentage. Japan%, Glitched% etc. are retarded memes and we need to make sure not to do that when naming categories.

Category ideas: Any%, 100% (or All Levels), All Demo Levels. Glitches banned (glitches in elma are no fun). I doubt anyone would ever do a fast run that involves hooked bug to save time, so I think we're good with not making a category that allows that.

We could create a game page on speedrun.com and we could also have an IL leaderboard if need be. I'd be down for at least all demo levels runs I guess.

Demo levels run could be great to start with.

Deaths wouldn't be catastrophic anyway, because almost nobody watching would have any idea what a good TT is or sach. I mean you could use this beisik speedrun format to showcase Elma at sach event, regardless of the result. I think that would be just fine, because Elma played absolutely in the spirit of speedrunning, just with slightly different formats.

Or hev theer been any runs at these events that use different formats? Like could someone simply go for 1htt at AGDQ instead of a speedrun?

Can all this stuff be integrated into EOL?
For the very reason of chat and verification.

I'm not sure how it'd work, and I know nothing about EOL's API or framework.

But you'd choose Any%, Demo% or 100%, and then you'd begin with locked levs.

Okay for us who had no clue what all those categories meant, here is a glossary.
I would maybe try speedrunning %any, then you can actually skip 5 levels to finish the game, correct?

The purpose then would be to get to Internal 55 as fast as possible and not to have good TT.
Obvious skips:
35. Labyrinth Pro
54. Apple Harvest
Questionable skips:
16. New Wave
31. Animal Farm
33. Zig Zag
40. Double Trouble

If you make Animal Farm or Zig Zag on first try, it's faster than New Wave for example, but New Wave might be easier to finish first try.
But since this is a speedrun you strategically would höyl for skipping longest levels obv.

Other things that comes to mind: is it worth changing fps during the run, or would you simply run on 220 fps from start to make it through the hole in Shelf Life, and would you try Free Fall shortcut or make a whole run in the level for a 34 sec finish?

Well, you have to prioritise difficulty or speed.

At first you can safely give priority to difficulty, skipping harder levels over longer ones.
Dying 2 times on Animal Farm or Headbanger is still worse than doing single but effective slow runs on Zig Zag or New Wave. That'd be my choice as a nab.

But, if more and better kuskis pick to play the Any%, the competition will force everyone who wants to stand on top to prioritise speed.

Yeah, TT is irrelevant now.

Dunno about fps.

I think playing with higher FPS is best, and take the longer route in Shelf and Free Fall. It will be easier to finish all other levels with higher FPS, and changing FPS mid-run is waste of time, maybe it will take more time changing FPS 2 times than playing longer routes in the two levels, and maybe it will not =)
Headbanger is interesting, I made it first try once when I played 1h TT.

Someone put up a stream and show some attempts please =) There is a topic with instructions for streaming here made by me.

Changing fps mid-run is just uncool as hell for the viewer I think. It's like if you are in a cinema and suddenly some guy appears in front of the auidence and says "okay folks, we need to change the film reel now, you might wanna go get a drink or something". Immersion ruined.

You lose like 10 sec in the changing process anyway, if not more which you should gain during the run for having that high fps for the rest of the run to get anything out of it.

There have been, such as a TGM demonstration that lasted about 1:30 that was just various modes of Tetris the Grandmaster. There has been a Starfox 64 Score run at AGDQ2014, and some blindfolded "runs" of Mike Tyson's Punch Out!! over the years, where the goal was mostly to get as far in the game as possible.

That being said, I'm not entirely sure that 1htt is the best format for elma at a GDQ. People would most likely get confused on why you are replaying levels, and people would have no idea what a good 1htt is. Imo, as fun as 1htt can be for pros, it is rather anticlimactic for the casual viewer. After 50-ish minutes you're done with all the levels but you don't stop? And you just replay some stuff for a few minutes then when time is up you yell out "45 minutes!"? What was that about?

This topic has activated lately!

finman has been streaming for a few days with the best run being 46 mins real time https://www.twitch.tv/dawnedgood/videos/all

and Elma has been added to speedrun.com: http://www.speedrun.com/elma

Rules are still up for discussion but in a nutshell, they currently are:
- Everything must be played online
- Full game runs require a stream/video recording
- Individual level records require a recsource.tv link (and times must be present in EOL database)

Does the software support showing the individual time of each segment? That way we could get approx time to complete each level.

I'm interested in getting on the speedrunk.com list, just casual shit, i dont possess the required consistency to do well on over 30s runs.

Can you post a guide how to set up elma for streaming and what software to use. can skip the twitch part

extreme basik: download OBS https://obsproject.com/ (imo no reason to even consider using anything else)
open elma, then in sources list add game capture, select elma from process list
add anything else you want to have in scene, split overlay etc. you can resize elma capture to fit other stuff etc.
make sure that unless you have cpu + bandwidth to broadcast in 1080p60fps, that you select proper resolution downscaling in video settings, and bitrate settings in output settings. cane explain those more if need but if already know some basik shit about encoding settings and bitrate then np understand i guess.

nothing too magical anywhere, it's very easy intuitive program to setup imo

It's called livesplit, I think finman said he will post config for it here today or something later. Should have all level split ready made and automatic splitting when finish levels etc.

spyed FM's 1st and 2nd finish (5x:xx and 5x:xx) like two weeks ago. Was amazing fun. Would recommend. I hope more mans will join the competition. Sometimes I watch speedruns of games, I didn't even play before, so I imagine elma speedrun might be the next big thing in this community. It might even bring ppls from other games to watch.

Feels very legit with the splitter and twitch and all.

just my ~50 cents
