Patch elma.exe with milagros

Post by milagros »

John wanted from me to do the patch that will automatically save pcx of every frame, so you can simply do avi with program like videomach...
DO IT YOURSELF!

so how to do it?

Step one:
we want to set to dump pcx by default
this can be done by many ways, the easiest must be to change key checking.. so change value at
0x1bafa 74h->75h

Step two:
balazs allowed only 100 dumps (or atleast then will be not in order mixed) so we want to change it. Dunno why Balzs didnt use right switch for sprintf, so there are two possiblities - for dump<10 and dump>=10.. we need to change it at two places
0x4d8f0 snap%d.pcx -> sn%05d.pcx
0x4d8fd snap0%d.pcx -> sn0%04d.pcx

Step three:
dump is slow (takes 0.6s on my comp) so we need to set default slow motion, so easiest way is to switch testing for hib's bit for that key
0x55939 74h->75h

Step four:
it's not slow enough, we need to slow it more (change to 1/4, if we want to 1/8, change to 05)
0x5593e 02h->04h

AND IT'S READY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

paych doesnt take pcx when you press alt+tab ( i might take a look at it), now its good to use windowed elma, that fixes the problem so you can play those #ranks or whatever during dumping 8O

looks liek nobody likes patching so i'll do some prog today that will patch it itself.. (like elmaconf)
adn variable speed should be added, because it works quite fast on some comps (john's...), maybe good vsync helps

i've uplaoded auto dumper for 30fps in real time (also while playing)
and also 60fps (30fps but 2x slowed down) for replays
but IT HAS TO BE USED IN WINDOW MODE! (otherwise 10x slower)

didnt get those windowed to work properly, didnt get smooth animation in videomach...

anyway that final.exe downloadable here works fine if u just dont let screensaver start or alt tab out from elma.
If u do there will be jumps in final recording. So framedump when u have lots of time and something else to do. Also I calculated framerate to 43,572621035058430717863105175292 =) so when adding frames to videomach (which I can send to u on irc if u want) add them with framerate close to that for realistic speed later in the avi.

I tried making a video of my 56:xx Tricks abound rec. Worked pretty good, the video is 320x240, ~ 8MB and 23 secs, so it runs in turbo speed :) Pretty smooth though.

mila next update on patch should be either screencapture hotkey to be able to start and stop capturing whenever u want to. Or program like that bmpscanner I sent u, which makes jpg out from pcx.

Quite some hdspace otherwise if whane labpro end recorded.. ;X

a bit off-topic i think:
mila
couldn't you do a patch wich makes it possible to zoom in and out while playing? fx. instead of playing with 2.00 zoom all the time. Kinda hard to play a whole level with the same close up zoom.
this could make it possible to max hoyl a level.
for a programmer like you, it shouldn't be that hard. just some hotkeys.

ye, it ez but might take a while..
that zoom constant (this time variable) is used in quite many places (where hib rewrites it with elmaconf) at at all those places that variable needs to be put but variable is bigger in asm code than constant (or same??0, so might take a while to do all thos jumps and .. ye, maybe ill do that, anyway i dont think anyone will use it

Everyone have allways talked about instead of a Top10 in the game there should be maybe Top50 or 100..

So why don't you or someone who would know how.. Make a small patch that every time you finish a lvl.. the time would be extracted to a .txt file.. something like that.. Or just straight in the game.

fixed that turn bug (it was in hib's part)
took major pain.. or i suck
and now you can set any fps

after I fix elmaconf I'll publish it (so it won't check CRC which is not valid anymore)
..so go for smooth animations!!!

I noticed that I can take screenshot every frame in normal belma.exe ... wtf? there used to be few seconds delay between each shot. like elma lag.. now Nothing. I hold down the button and I get screenshot every 0,02-0,03 sec.. prolly every 0,03 which is every frame.

anyone else experienced this?
could be very useful for live online movie making :P
