There's no way to play elma online. Your second question i didn't quite get :?:
Was it cast for the mass who burn and toil?
Or for the vultures who thirst for blood and oil?

I'm not sure...Playing elma online could be fun, but you always fuck up your rides more than you don't, so with one player is dead or has cancelled the ride with esc, it's not that fun for the other player.

I never heard about hungarian online elma. I started to do a program to allow multiplayer on 2 different computers, but network lag made it absolutely unusable. In elma you have to react very fast, outside LANs the lag is just too high for that... In LAN enviroment it works fine, though.
It is not finished yet and I don't think that I should finish it, coz if you can
play multi on LAN, then you can play it on the same computer I guess.

The program sends keyboard signals... You have to run a standalone
program that receives keyboard signals, sends over LAN to the
other computer, and the program on the other computer sends
the keyboard signals to elma... and vice versa of course...
It's very buggy anyway

how do other online games handle lags ?

also u dont need to play normal multiplayer online , u can invent many types of contests . the simplest example would be to have a battle system built in the program , and your team mates can see your rec.. :D

Other games, such as an FPS or a strategy do not need to be
completely synchronized many times a second. At least you don't
hit your enemy or your units move half a sec later. If your mopo
moves half a sec later, you'll die or fuck up your best time. But, if
the elma program itself handles multiplay, synchronising does not
matter that much, coz it just moves your player and updates your
mate from time to time, the only difficulty is when one hits the flower,
but it can work fine I think. Using my program with high lag the two
elmas will end up with quite different results. (e.g. In one the level
was successful but in the other there's failed to finish)

Well of course the data which should be transferred is the position of each player, not what keys he pressed.
So only balazs can make an online version. Maybe a program could read the replay buffer directly... I think it's too hard :)

jcl : How do you get the pressed keys? What lib do you use? Would you make an alovolt tool for us? :) I mean a program that allows the player to press A and B simultaneously when he presses C.
If you don't want to make it i will, but since you've already programmed something near it...

All pressed keys, mouse movement etc. can be determined easily
in windows or directx... Just some spying... No I'm not going to make an alovolt tool, in my opinion it's quite fun to try. I can do it 1 out of 5 tries :P

If alovolt-key is possible to make I think it is the best thing to do it, If someone makes it for themself it´s not right (It´s not like inventing new style or anything) so I think everyone should be able to do it...
But it´s not like I miss alovolt, since I can´t do it I haven´t been used to it, but I think fair should be fair.
(ps. Maybe tomorrow I think different, but hey, that´s Life I guess, and this is what my head displays now. Remember, fun is greater than food)

peace love & understanding :D

me and swos have played across online with the way that our keyboards are kind of synchronized with external program(just like u told) it's laggy..though swos had 128kbps connect.. can't play that way... but it works of course...can't remember where we downloaded that program but it was some emulation page.. it was kind of made for psx emulator and we used it in across.

and about the online opportunity in elma. It would definetely kick ass... and if there's a little lag,it's not so bad...cuz anyways you can't really DIE in online flag tag for example..cuz if u die u lose...so u must play carefully...and if u play carefully u also watch out for diying and u get used to lag....so it's a whole other game than elma then...you can't just press ESC button... little lag is not bad for flag tag contests...but I guess that if I want to compete against some hungarian for instance...it would lag quite much sine hungary is so far and their connections are not too connected to finnish connections :) etc etc but fin vs fin or swe vs fin can play flag tag with fast connections w/ no problem I guess..if someone just create a normal online thingie...

if they make a new version of elma then i think that there should difinatly be a option for people to play online or in a greater lan capability.

then the moposite could set up a server so we can all play flag tag or something else like that. or a might be getting a bit ahead of the times here

elma online could make outstanding breakout, and become one of most important part of the game, if it could be done so that it works even averagely, you can always fix it little by little..

just think about it, u could play multi with ANYONE u like. it would be so awesome.. i dont think its hard to do at all actually, it could work just like multi now, but with 2 computers. other connects to other one or something like that.

hmm, i also thought, that why not (now that some ppl r working on higher resolutions in the game (arent they?)) split the screen in 4? if only 1 keyboard is used it's impossible, but with gamepads and online gaming it would b great. 4 guys all going for their own apples. a whole new meaning for multiplaying.. it would have to b separated from 2ppl multiplaying of course, but..

if it's online u can have several multi type games:
  • normal multiplayer but with several ppl
  • multibattle: imagine an adventure type of level, no one has ever seen it. all in #across ready to press gas, until abula fires. dz is first to the first apple, then he does a brutalvolt. noo, it wasn't perfect, dmd takes the lead. oh he's going fast, very fast, NOO, I MEAN YES, HE DIDNT DIE!!!!. etc (the apples dont disappear for the others if one takes them)
  • mix the above games and u have your team cooperating to together take all apples and take the flower
  • etc

If you die your bike stopped for 5 seconds and then you can go on from the place you died to and don't have to start again.

Off-topic:
Maybe there should be an own forum for Elma 2? Or alternatelly I can edit some sign to beginnig of every Elma 2 related threads. "[New Elma]" or something. It's not good that all ideas are in different threads around the whole board.

this kind of multi ideas are really a huge thing in the future, IF someone did do it. today ppl want to compete on each others, live, we are bored to compete against computer.

true. human vs comp is really dull after a while. elmabattles are great fun and simultanious human vs human (vs human)*n would b incredibly great. but. elma 1.11a-1.11h compared to this 1.11h-x.xx would b very small a step..

hm i thought the following multiplayer game...

imagine a circular level, every time the player goes around he have to
collect the same apples again and again, until say 10 laps has been finished. and of course it will write your time against the others on the screen :)

Lap 1 finished: 1st abula (59:45) 2nd pexi (1:05:34)
Lap 2 finished: 1st abula (1:47:80, lap time 48:25), 2nd pexi (1:57:44, lap time 52:10)
and so on...

very much like formula-1 :)
and ofcorz viewers could join the game viewing how others höyl...

a ranking system would be cool, if you have 1500 in rating and you win against one who has 1700 you'll get for example 10 points, but if your opponent has 1600 in rating you had only recived 5 points.

hmm a guy that lives like 2000km or more from the other player can't really play good unlagging game in anyway. But for instance scandinavians with their good connections can compete quite lagless gameplay on some good developed online games. But mick0r would never play realtime 1vs1 with scandinavians... And talking about developing it. Of course if that is a too big issue to get over. If you (jcl or hiber) can connect players etc with bad lag, that would still be a good step further if creating a program that lets you give other player a "chance" to view your replay on your elma. Without sending the rec, like I think ribot was saying.

maybe, but internet as it was 5 years ago, was quite "fast" already to do stuff ppl did everyday. today we can do much more; we require more.
just wait a few years and you'll laugh at today's fast speed and how you can't do "anything" with it

how about elma online, but not multi...........like when playing battles you could see other players times real-time and you could set the lenght of the battle and when the time is over you could see the final results on your screen.......or something....

There isn't any lan multiplayer versions, but a hungarian guy is developing Elma M!, which is a lan elma-like game. I don't know how is he going, but if it will be ready to test, then you will surely know it.

We CAN program an online mode patch. With a crappy display for the "other" player, but it's very very (...) very possible.
BUT we don't feel like making it :) Not fun job. Maybe mgen or milagros or jcl will want to make it someday.
I can help, i basically know how to make it. Of course i still lack some boring reverse engineering. But as long as we know it's possible...
If a not-bad low level programmer wants to make it, contact me.

Elma is a simple, 2d game, that uses like 7 maximum buttons to play. and I can play counterstrike, on 1024x768 res, 32 bit color, and not lag, its alot more complicated than elma. so elma should be possible to play withought lag, or very little.

this is an awsome idea, I hope it gets made soon.

ya my computer doesnt lag very often at all either

i like the idea cause then u can multiplay with teammates in dif countries and stuff like that. or just play tag when u get lonely :(

i dont knwo if it is possible to make elma online but im prety sure it is cause many games like unreal tournament are online and they are complex.elma is simple so it should be definately possible.

i am looking foward to this online feature if it comes out on elma 2.0
