33wrtt project

Post by Tm »

We are about to witness 34wrtt… I believe it would be safe to state that it will be the last minute break. However, I refuse to think that way. Personally, I have found myself contemplating intensively lately about a possibility, for us - humans, to achieve 33wrtt. Thus, with some minor help from other kuskis I tried to draw primary targets on every internal. Those times might (and will) be doable in the future. The real problem lies in our motivation to hoyl and, of course - stylefinding. The later, seems more important. Therefore it was inevitable to take in account "yet to be done styles" while making this list.

As you can see, current wrtt of the project is just below 34.15. So pro's opinions regarding lowering speculative-wrtt even by a tiny bit, are highly appreciated to flourish here.
It is obvious that these times are relatively ez with few minutes/hours of Sl'ing/TAS'ing. But the purpose of all this, is to create targets that are as realistic as possible for human beings.

These primary target times will be updated occasionally as the development of wrtt and discussion in this topic progress. So, this list might serve as a motivator, as well as stupidity-meter showing never-ending failure of speculations.

Some random possibilities that first come to mind (no impsy superbounce stuff etc, just good rides and a bit of stylefinding which has happened or will happen i believe):
06. long haul - 29:30
20. upside down - 55:90
25. precarious - 23:80
27. shelf life - 32:80
30. pipe - bounce finally? the day will come.
33. zig zag - 51:80
43. hehe - 54:90
52. hang tight - 23:80

Some 26.xx in Curvaceous should be doable.

The Pipe shortcut will definitely be done someday.

33 wr tt might be accomplished in a couple of decades, but it's more likely that Elma will be dead in the meantime.

Some depressing thoughts about the future of internals:
- as times are improved, more and more "enigma issues" will inevitably come up
- to fix this and make the game fair, physics need to be fixed and tables reset, which might mean mass loss of interest in internals
then again i don't know anything
maybe easier not to think abouut alöl things thought than not things thought ... or something..=?

Let the current record be beaten using a legit bounce, then grant successive records through wide-ranging voting, although it is not sure democracy is suitable in this case.

Indeed. I feel like we are on quite-unknown and -unstable grounds. Extrapolation is, and is to remain, a statistical assumption.

What, is to be asked, will the next advance be? Nobody knows, and this is precisely what makes the interesting in the long run.

I miss the graph we used to have, of total time in function of time.

Too bad http://www.moposite.com/records_wr_statistics.php lists table numbers, which is useless in and of itself.

Unless someone script-converts table numbers to useable dates, there will be nothing done in that direction. (Power to the graphes!)
milagros wrote:i will be very original and write that 33tt will never be done
Probably like you say mila, extrapolation would destroy any reasonable hopes. How do you put it in math, a limit or asymptotes? (You see where I'm getting at..)

i would guess the model predicts it sooner than that, although i wonder how far it will hold without dismantling itself out of another-model friction.

even now it's possible beat another 5 secs in one month, then next month another 5 secs, if ppl had a bit motivation. wrs just are that bad. after those 10 secs would look a bit harder without new styles. ez 33 anyway, prolly 2020.

prolly need some new tools also. I guess many forget the fact that when wr tt went under 36 in 2007, there was no fps limiter or saveload. had to play animal farm with vsync and keypress delay. with some bounce helper (and small bug acceptance) ez cut nearly 20 secs from new wave and pipe

I'm with Zweq on this one.

I say 2020-2023 because I suspect tomorrow everyone will quit and then there is no motivation.

After new EDQ is released every unknown style will be shared, people will try them and maybe a few wrs will be beaten. But after that I have a hard time seeing any remarkable TT drop that will happen. 33 won't happen, not even halfway in 20 years.

i dont see 33... i dont even see 34:15, maybe 34:30 in some 20 years

btw Zweq, as fps limiter was controversial to make it legit, whatthefuck, saveload? bounce helper?
maybe i misunderstanded you but these are clearly cheats and shoulndnt be legit even in 2050AD

That is because Smibu made a sl patch that is undetectable, which means everyone has to drive wrs online =) But the patch itself is a very good tool for one another.

imo Smibu should be thanked, because, detectable or undetectable, before Smibu's sharing plenty of people had s/l and nobody did anything about it; after Smibu released it virtually everybody had it so some serious measures had to be taken to prevent massive cheats - accepting only online-driven times as wrs etc. it's a bit like pointing out what's wrong with the system so that it can be improved.
plus, everyone has an equal chance of supporting himself with sl as a train-tool now, before it was available only to few. as zweq mentioned, it's a valuable tool without which many styles still wouldn't be done
overall Smibu-haters may go to hell, because imo what he did in no way promotes cheating (like proper/harmful cheating, trying to deceive others), but reduces disparities and supports training)

Sure it's good that the measures was taken, but, it could have been pointed how in a better way. Rather than just releasing an undetectable cheat tool in the open, creating that gray area between everyone having it and the rules being changed, one could have alerted the right people that could change the rules and much less people would have had it in that gray area. Not to mention the cowardly way he spread it, via webchat thinking he could be anonymous, rather than standing behind what he did.

But I don't want to hate on people forever, it's water under the bridge now. Whatever happened happened.

That's a good point, although NOTHING would ever happen that way. No one would give a single fuck and everyone would just sit by and hope that it doesn't get spread and that someone else doesn't decide to make an undetectable SL for their personal use...

Some clarifications.
Pawq, not sure about many people having sl before it was released by smibu. I know about 7 russians (including me) who had it, and it was detectable, and only like 2 of them actually played the game. Tell about more ppl kthx. But of course hourglass was out and tasvideos is a big site, so spreading was inevitable, but this is not the point.
Bjenn, hourglass is detectable with standard configuration, but you can easily change some values to make it undetectable. It loses ability to go in slowmo and you can't easily fix old runs (they go out of sync). Knowing the reason why it is detectable in the first place makes it obvious on how to remedy the problem, but i'm not telling :p
one could have alerted the right people that could change the rules and much less people would have had it in that gray area
Imo the blatant in-your-face way worked better and quicker, even though Smibu presented it in a silly fashion. Simple alerting doesnt sound intimidating enough. For example, making hourglass sync-stable AND undetectable requires only few additional lines of code (it's open-source), so that everyone with some knowledge of C is now theoretically able to record pseudohoyl sessions offline and then replay them online without anyone noticing anything. But who cares about such improbable threat?
Little fun fact - i remember having told mila years ago about a cheated wr in an internals table and he just didn't care about it. That wr is still not removed btw, because it was made by an apparently undetectable tool (or maybe it is detectable, but no one researched it seems) by someone who isn't playing anymore. So yeah, nothing can be proven, and sadly i'm one of 2 people who were personally told by the wr maker about it, and it's not enough of a proof.

It real sucks to know that the current table contains some dirt. It devalues so much, from the work of current internalists to the next EDQ, passing through scene enthusiasm and table credibleness.
