The Dementia Battles

Post by insane guy »

What if you made a lev. Then start balle. Then you recreate the lev from your memory using the editor. Then start this level. Recreate again and start. And so on until everyone really hates you.

Some thoughts:
Depending on the lev and designer this can be really cool or just pretty fucked up. I think it's good to "go with the flow" if something super cool happens in a later version and it does not end up like the original. But thats up to the individual designer.
Also a very important factor is how long you wait inbetween making a new replica. You could make your next lev during the balle or wait 1 hour, 1 day, 1 week...
Another thing is that if you spy the people playing your lev, you will remember it a lot better. So maybe not spying is an option (but sucks).

What do you think?

If this proves to be fun, all designers who think they might have lost one ore two braincells along the way are happily invited to start their own Dementia Battles.

Lev code: DBnnn*## (n=nick, *=no. of Dementia Balle by you, #=number of lev)
My first balle will be: DBins101, DBins102 ...)

We can then print the maps and put them in funky galleries and make serious $$$!

Dementia Battle #01 (Designer: insane guy): Start/Add to eol queue: Wednesday, April 1st, 2015 at 20:00 CEST (18:00 GMT / 21:00 EEST / 15:00 UYT thanks vj) End: Later that night
Maybe 5 levs in total. Depending on other battles this could take a while.

I think the most important thing here is to double check your timezones since the summer time has overtaken Europe.

Chris did that for three years, the lev didn't become any better in the process

Another option could be to make a (random?) lev and then make replicas from memory before you start the first battle.
Interesting to find out if the replicas will become more abstract or more precise.

Thanks for playing everyone. From my point of view the first Dementia Battle was an interesting and fun event. No one really hated it. jblaze even started his own Dementia Battle (DBjbl01 and DBjbl02) and I think it's still ongoing.

I made the first four levs during the day, with a few hours pause inbetween each replica. Only 105 I made after the others were already battled and I think it was the worst of the series.

This is a merge of DBins101-105:

And this is an image of the five levs (+Bonus lev by Chris, who made it after seeing 101).

To my great surprise the winning style on all levs was pretty much the same.

For the next Dementia Battle I will make a longer lev and wait longer inbetween making each replica. Will advertise here.

Also some other ideas popped up, like having different designers make replicas of one level. This for sure sounds like fun.

I made one too: http://elmaonline.net/battles/87819

This reminds me of a type of lev TL used to make and some other mans mimicked. Can't remember what the original TL levs were called but others called them "brand" levs. Here's 3 of them:
http://elmaonline.net/statistics/level/165220
http://elmaonline.net/statistics/level/165224
http://elmaonline.net/statistics/level/172597
then again i don't know anything
maybe easier not to think abouut alöl things thought than not things thought ... or something..=?

done this sometimes, based on prev battle i made lev based on my memory because nothing in queue and no idias in brane. Somehow i have very bad memory when it comes to details and get very different results :P . Fun concept for sure. Cant contribute with levs though because totally random levnames ipsy to remember
