Connect to IRC?

ok, I should get this IRC thing. Anyone tell me how? I think this has been said loads before, but step by step n00b style instructions would be rreeeeeeal helpful

You don't install irc, you install a irc client. You'll probably want to use mIRC

Download mIRC.
Install mIRC.
When you open mIRC, and the Connect dialog box shows up, write your nickname in the appropriate space and choose your server.
The IRC Network should be IRCNet, and for the server (the menu second from the top) choose for example IRCNet: EU, UK, London (Demon) or IRCNet: EU, UK, London (Easynet)
Then click Connect to IRC Server.

When you're connected (you will see this by a lot of text pouring into the window), write across in the input space.
And that's all. It's not very hard actually.

right, I thought this would happen, I have to register. damn.
is it completely nessesary or does it not matter?

edit: Question still stands, but I have managed to connect and its all working fine.

Like with pretty much all applications of this sort, the developers say: "OK, so you can get it for free, but if you buy it you will get...yak yak yak..."
So no, you don't have to, unless you're allergic to ads and such.

OK is there usually someone in there.... couz i have tried multiple times only to be all alone in the room. it even says....

You have to go on IRCnet

try irc.stealth.net
