snooker

Post by Igge »

Realized there was only a topic for the world championships, but seeing as many people here seem to be interested in the game I thought it deserved a topic of its own.

The reason I was looking for a snooker topic in the first place was to share the Ronnie O' Sullivan show. This is the first episode out of 4 so far, and although it's pretty beisik stuff it's fun to see Ronnie go through his thought process when making his latest 147 and sach.

Also cane plug this channel which I found a month ago or so. The guy pumps out around 2-4 snooker videos per week, all with different themes. Some videos are better than others, but all are worth a watch at least.

Champion of Champions is on with a sick line-up (http://www.championofchampionssnooker.co.uk/players/). Fun format too with "group play" first then semis then final.

It's broadcast on ITV4, and so far the best stream I've found is this one: http://fancystreems.com/itv-4-uk-stream.php

Schedule:
Session Times:

Four groups of four players – Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday

Afternoon session: 1.00pm – 5.00pm 2 x best of 7 frame matches
Evening session: 7.00pm – 11.00pm 1 x best of 11 frame match

Semi Finals – Saturday November 8

Afternoon session: 1.00pm – 5.00pm 1 x best of 11 frame match
Evening session: 7.00pm – 11.00pm 1 x best of 11 frame match

Final – Sunday November 9

Afternoon session: 1.00pm – 5.00pm Best of 19 frames
Evening session: 7.00pm – 11.00pm

World championship has been going on for a while now, and it's been a really good tournament so far. I've yet to find a good stream, just watching mongos from google, so if anyone knows a good one please tell!

Also i guess discuss tournament here or something)

Not in Sweden it seems.. Some years ago I bought a subscription just to watch snooker, but in the end it felt a bit much for how little I watch.

I see now though that they added the option to pay for just one month (69kr instead of 49krx12, since it used to be you have to pay for at least 12months). Good to know before the next tournament, so if I know I will be able to watch I will pay just for that month.

Wow.. What a final..!

Touch or no touch? I say yes, but the entire world seems to be split 50/50 whether it touched or not. And in such a crucial frame!

I didn't think it would ever happen but for the first time in my life I was on higgins side in a match of snooker ;) I have to admit Selby has the best nerves of all time, though.

To me it looked like it hit, but only after seeing all the replay angles. It's a very difficult call. Also, higgins went on to win the frame after that, not in one visit but still. Would have been nice drama if higgins also won the champ.

Someone on Reddit made this gif. Seems like touch to me:
http://ibb.co/dosY35
I still think Jan made the right call though, since this must have been near-impossible to catch in real-time. Since no one could say for sure, he was right to stick with his first decision.

And like you say Zweq; for Selby to come out after losing that frame (due to this very snooker attempt) and make a 131 immediately after shows some insane mentality. Also considering he was down by a lot after the first session.

Also funny was the green foul that happened right after, where both players seemed really confused as to why white wouldn't be replaced. Lot's of interesting stuff in the last few frames. Higgins seemed super tired though, I wonder if it affected him.

Selby's performance was insanely balanced in finals. No huge mistakes or fouls on easy balls. He played carefully and was well focused.

Higgins not so much. And that costed him a trophy. But imo both players are really top quality. People just seem to be biased against Selby, because they find him "boring". Well, not everyone is eccentric dude like Ronnie. But if you play well, you win, and you deserve it.
