If you want to buy it I suggest using g2a.com (ref link) instead of Steam to get it for about half price (and google for an additional 3% (or so) discount coupon that's available most of the time).

It's also available for PS4 and Xbox One.

A controller is recommended to play but not necessary (I use keyboard).

if all you care about is price then you should use g2a but if you dont want to support credit card fraud among other illegal things you shouldnt use their services

yesterday i played a stupid game and markku won rocket league from me so i decided to buy it for myself as well. game seems pretty good but havent made my mind fully yet, need to play more

imo it only gets better the better you get and we are all very much still RL zworqies from what i've seen
