Da fuq is wrong with people? Yeah the outlook is worse, but quitting usage for it is like quitting elma if you were forced to use the alternative bike

I think that the old lauta was prettiest ever and I don't fully understand what is happening but unfortunately it apparently is simply not technically possible to have the old design anymore.
Abula wrote:I was forced to upgrade phpBB to version 3.2 because of php7.

I guess we can live with the default styles. It increases the odds to have the board running as long as possible.
So I would blame phpBB for this.

Also apparently Abula has now been working very hard to get this thing working altogether and to fix the worst design errors. This is already a lot better than what it was yesterday. So in my opinion we all owe a thank you for Abula and we should try to constructively come up with ways of improving the current design.

server host upgraded to php 7 or why was forced to upgrade the board?

I don't like the design, it simply looks bad on desktop for me. Elements smear to eachother due to poor background-color choices. There are also contrast issues between foreground color and background-color. I think if those issues were fixed with some mild box-shadowing and color changes I think it quickly looks much better, at least for me.

In fact the "post a reply" form I'm looking at when writing this text is quite lol, and I wasn't even planning to complain about it. The subject label and input field are flying around separated far from eachother. But this kind of problems are generally whatever for me.

The good things about this update are that the forum is responsive and very readable on mobile and tablet devices and that php7 is a lot faster than php5. Too bad forums don't exactly require much processing power.

phpBB 3.0 didn't work with php7 and too difficult to manually fix it. The upgrade was coming one day anyway.

Usually people see new designs always bad but after a few weeks most of the annoyings are adapted. Hopefully that's the case here as well. Nostalgy is a value in itself but so is freshness and new start!

15 years of user experience can hardly be called "nostalgy".

Very +1 for design in image, would be much easier to distinguish stuff and is overall nicer for eye. Otherwise I don't really have a problem with the new layout.

I'm not saying that I don't like changes. For example if mopolauta got changed into Discourse instead I'd be pretty happy. This phpbb theme just has way too much whitespace (you only see 2 forums after landing on the main page, it used to be 6 before: https://imgur.com/a/4SLR3) and after clicking "mark topic read" a popup will show every time that you need to close which gets annoying pretty quickly.

The "Unread posts for Lousku" function in main page rocks. Extra point for new Lauta.

hey guys i love mopolauta, but after the change i voted NO, because i find it really hard, almost impossible for many parts of my body... i don't know what's going on, i just hope it's an april fool's or some nightmare and uncle AB finds a cure. as u see i still use, but i'm dizzy, hell, i'm like unstable emotionally every time i open the page

p.s. the mopolauta new design is really awful, is it really impossible for an Abula Administrator, who works with website full time and even during his spare time to find a way to change the looks while keeping it updated to the 7.0 or w/e it has to be? cheers!!

The layout felt too verbose, so I tuned it a bit: https://i.imgur.com/jRmaXVW.png

This is the userscript if someone wants the same:

Code: Select all

// ==UserScript==
// @name        Mopolauta better layout
// @namespace   http://userscripts.org/users/12313212
// @include     https://mopolauta.moposite.com/viewtopic.php?*
// @require     https://code.jquery.com/jquery-latest.min.js
// @version     1
// ==/UserScript==

const timestamps = $('.postbody .author');
const buttons = $('.postbody .post-buttons');
buttons.css('float', 'right');
buttons.css('position', 'static');
buttons.find('.button').css('margin', '0');
buttons.find('.fa-exclamation-circle').parent().parent().remove();
timestamps.each((i, e) => $(e).find('.responsive-hide')[0].childNodes[0].nodeValue = '');
$('.postbody').children().children().not('.content').not('.post-buttons').remove();
const profile = $('.postprofile');
profile.children().remove();
profile.each((i, e) => $(e).append(timestamps[i]));
$('.back2top').remove();
const content = $('.postbody .content');
content.css('border-top', 'none');
content.css('padding-top', '0');
content.css('min-height', '0');
content.css('clear', 'none');
profile.css('min-height', '0');
profile.css('margin', '0');
profile.children('.author').css('margin', '0');
