Fraps FPS problem
Ok
today i downloaded Fraps 2.7.4 (unregistred)
so i can see my fps in elma
im starting elma.exe
but when i play i have a constant 60 fps, which isnt so good
im on ati radeon 9800pro 128 mb
i tried setting video detail to low, but still 60 fps.
then i tried in other games such as counter strike source, and still 60 fps -.-
there must be something wrong?
i even tried reinstalling..

teh vsync, n00b ;P
vsync just limits the fps to what your monitor can viev in some resolution, when u turn it off your harware limits it (but monitor still vievs for example that 60fps, the gameplay in elma differs though)
in what resolution u had 60fps? i guess you play on a lcd or v. high resolution or got some settings messed up...

A beer a day keeps the doct0r away.

I have this problem with my laptop.
coz i don't have DirectX9.0 or whatever on my laptop (it's a win2000 but that doesn't matter) anyways.
I don't feel like installing any newer directX.. so does anyone know any other program i can use for watching the FPS in Elma? or maybe an older version of fraps would work?
Would be nice with a small program that only has the abillity to watch the FPS.

If you have a CRT display then you have vsync on and monitor viewing 60 Hz in 640x480. (if you play with default resolution)goofu wrote: i tried setting video detail to low, but still 60 fps.

As said, vsync is just a tool to limit FSP to the same level that your monitor can refresh images in that specific resolution. If you play elma in 800x600 and your monitor can do 120Hz with that resolution, you will have 120FPS if you have vsync on. Think about this: why would you want to have more FPS that your monitor can handle? If your monitor can refresh the image 120 times a second (Herz), then it's natural to limit your frames per second to 120 also (FPS). That's why vsync was invented. It doesn't stress your hardware that much when its not necessary.
If you switch vsync off, you will have as high fps as your hardware allows but you still can see only the maximum that your monitor allows (Hz). FPS changes in elma physics makes the bike act differently and that's why we change vsync on/off. When elma has higher FPS, even if your monitor only displays 60Hz, elma does not know that and will act according to the FPS that it gets from hardware.
Vsync is very low-level FPS changer, it can only switch it to full (limited by hardware) or limit it to the monitor Herz level. Some people switch elma resolution in order that affect the FPS. If you put maximum resolution, you will have lower FPS with vsync off because hardware has to do more to refresh the high-resolution image. What we really need is FPS-changer/limiter. A program that lets you decide what FPS to use (of course if hardware allows that).
As all that being said... yes 75 is maximum if you run elma in resolution on which monitor has 75Hz at that moment and having vsync on.Xiphias wrote:there's nothing wrong with that. think 70-75 is max with fraps.. can't remeber right now. (elma i mean)
FPS varies greatly if you switch elma timer off. Also map affects some.
