Speed-Battle concept

Post by Coco »

I thought about a new concept to play elma : the Speed-Battle !

Battle start (TStart) : players can download level.

Players have to finish level 10 times then upload their stats (TStop) !

Ranking done on : SUM(10 times) + (TStop-TStart)

So differentes strategies :

- ensure 10 bad times to minimize (TStop-TStart)

- try 10 good times with the risk to increase (TStop-TStart).

What do you think about ?

I think it's not a good idea, because the idea of every battle is to do the best, fastest ride and not to bother with fulfiling top ten...

That is why I talk about a 'new concept' then I found a different name 'speed-battle'...

Therefore, it is only an idea, hope to everyone to test it :)

I think you have to put some weight on the Tstart-Tend so it doesnt effect that much or else you will almost always get the best time by just finishing it 10 times.

Sure, I thougth about... For a short level like warm up, it is evident that players would prefere finish it with 10 bad times to have the smallest Tstart-Tend.

Idea to develop...

I think maybe the top 10 is too much... just best time in seconds + time passed in minutes, it could work.

For example, time 15.67 5 minutes after start would be totally 20.67, and 12.34 after 10 minutes would be 22.34 secs. The battle would just end when it's impossible to beat the best time anymore.

This should be easier to test, I think.

Can be tested there http://trouvedec.free.fr/SB/
Only datas collected then displayed, no ranking done.

You only have to download level, play it then upload level and best replay.
You must stay on the same computer (from download to upload).

I forgot something : to find what method will be the best (top10, only best time, weight for [Tstart-Tend], ...), it is hope to you to finish level only once or at least 10 times.

jaytea, I kicked your start.
tm, thanks to try it :D

I try to find a way to compute final time (with penalty) using only best time or using top 10 average.

Methods can be viewed at http://trouvedec.free.fr/SB/index.php

Waiting your comments... Thanks to all testers :D

I would like to see a textfield for nickname, so that ppl could use their nicks and not the names in their elmas. That's how ppl could also add their team to their name.

Sure, I only make it easy because it is a test period. I will review layout and fields to fill (kuski, team) for the first "official" SB.

Now, I only try to find which method to use (Best Time or Top 10 Average), how to compute penalty time, and which weigth to apply...

I am waiting for a bit more people to test it (it only takes few minutes  ) with top 10 average or not (it doesn't matter) to determine what will the right way be.
