Album of the year (as chosen by Mopolauta)

Post by SveinR »

The idea of this thread is to make Mopolauta's very own list of the best music albums released this year. Ideally, I would like everyone who participate to name their top 10 albums, in this fashion:

1) 12 points: Artist - Album
2) 10 points: Artist - Album
3) 8 points: Artist - Album
4) 7 points: Artist - Album
.
.
10) 1 point: Artist - Album

However, I realize that Mopolauta is not a music forum, and so I can't expect everyone to be so into music that they even have heard 10 albums from this year. So I'll allow you to name only one album if you like, but in that case, it won't get 12 points: If you name 9 albums, the one you place first will get 10 points, if you name 8 albums, the one you place first will get 8 points, if you name 7 albums, the one you place first will get 7 points, and so on. So the point scheme of 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-10-12 is followed throughout.

What types of albums are allowed? In general, compilation albums will not be allowed, but if they consist mostly of unreleased material they're eligible. Obviously, 20th anniversary rereleases and the like will not be allowed. But other than these, you can pick whatever you want, be it studio albums, live records, or EPs. Just make sure that it was actually released in 2007.

Deadline of submitting your list: January 2nd, 23:59 EET
Was it cast for the mass who burn and toil?
Or for the vultures who thirst for blood and oil?

I've only bought one cd this year. The Meanest Of Times by Dropkick Murphys, and it's good enough to be the best I bought in ages :).

1) Linkin Park - Minutes to Midnight
omg. i love hybrid theory. still among my favourite albums. but then came meteora. a so-so album, kinda boring, some good songs. and then. minutes to midnight. I dled teh cause i was quite sceptic at first. (The other 2 ez buy at once..) I listened it through - and I hated it. Sooo boring, sooo lame, theyre like trying to make ballads out of every song. I just can't stand hearing one single song anymore, cause they're such disappointments.

Still, hybrid theory is very good, if you havn't heard, you should seriously concider buying/dling it.

OnT:

Bad Religion - New Maps of Hell

I have no idea how many good ones have been released 2007, so will try to check ones that might have been released this year. Hopefully I'll find more.

Yeah, I haven't really listened to much stuff from this year. I guess I'll check out some of the inevitable "Top Super 364772 Albums Best of 2007 Records Buy Them Now!" lists and get some of the albums that keep showing up near the top. I find it's easier to enjoy music when it isn't brand new anyway. I like waiting a few months after it's released, minimum.

holy dope SveinR, i really did not expect you to be the kind of guy to like Sage Francis!
and i'd totally forgot about this CD, which is by the way, quite good in its own way. More poetry than rap but, very good!

That depends on what actually you consider a "metal". Cannibal Corpse and Dream Theater are both metal bands, but there is a huge difference between them.

Have got only few albums last year, bad luck :/ Prolly would buy some later. At least Buckethead's latest release looks interesting enough.
My litel list:
1. Dimmu Borgir - In Sorte Diaboli
2. Behemoth - The Apostasy
3. Dream Theater - Systematic Chaos
4. Arch Enemy - Rise of the Tyrant (though listened like 2 songs from this one)
5. Graveworm - Collateral Effect
