TAP Elimination Cup

Post by zebra »

Team TAP is back, stronger than ever. On 30th of January 2008, we will start our new cup, called Tap Elimination Cup (TEC). It's again a new kind of cup, never seen before in elma history. By combining all the good sides in both normal elma cups and elimination cups, it offers you an unforeseen challenge through brand new shiny levels designed by TAP members. Fight against your enemies, team members and friends in normal cup events and 1vs1 events. After everyone else has dropped out, the two toughest fighters will face each other in the finals and only one of them will survive and win the cup.

Are you ready? Read rules from our brand new homepage and join #TEC in IRCnet.
A winner of 4 GAA's (mc2 included), winner of mkup206, and a proud member of team TAP.

he means that it is going to be sure that some good players will be kicked out in the elimination part, then the pairs kill some interest in playin for the 'worse' player therefore it will "will kill some fighting air"

that's why you should play hard in the first phase to get easier opponents in the 2nd phase :)

Of course some good players will be kicked out, and isn't it what makes it interesting? Eventually, all except the winner will be kicked out, because there can be only one winner.

I agree that in a normal cup event there can be more ''fighting air' because all the pros are höyling the same event. That's why there's the first phase.

Well, some levels (at least some of mine) have pipe shortcuts, but they are ez pipes. But there won't be 'pipe levels' (you know what i mean).

TEC trailer

Post by Scruffy the janitor »

TEC starting soon. heres a little trailer/promotional vid for it:

http://www.saunalahti.fi/johanko/trailerTEC.avi if you want to download

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0PYghi1jyzA youtube

some small glimpses of cup levels in there somewhere ( not much for obvious reasons ) other clips are from random TAP levels. the trailer doesnt mention the 5 level normal cup phase but i hope its clear to everyone that from the first phase 32 best players advance to elimination phase ( just making sure this is clear )
Now hold on, Iron Joe...

ya it works for other time zones as well. Works for any time zone it just counts down the time left for you to submit your rec. It's 1 day 3 hours and 30 sec for me right now and for everyone else around the world that checked it at the exact time i did.

that was posted 6.2.2008 at 3am same timezone as TEC deadline, so there is only 17h left. the clock doesnt seem to work :/

edit: the time seems to be taken from the persons comp who loads the page, not from the server like vz said, DONT TRUST THE CLOCK check time from somewhere else if not sure when to send in. clock removed now from site until get it to worka
yep it seemed to show wrong time, sorry. Hopefully veezay or somebody else is going to fix it soon.

First event is over and we have a winner: axxu [AC], congratulations! See results here. We hit the new record of participants, 87. Thanks all who played! Now there will come 2 longer levs, let's see how many players will continue to them. That's why the next deadline will be exceptionally on Sunday 17 february.

Some things about rules.

1) If two players will have same amount of points after the 1st phase (after 5 events), the one who got more points from 1st level will get higher position. If same position from 1st lev, then we'll look at 2nd level and so on.

2) There is now 5 min rec limit / limit time in every level.

3) About the thing that in the 1vs1 phase for example 3rd player will be against 29th and 4th player against 30th. Shouldn't it be the other way around? Well, the list is taken from an official source ( http://www.sptl.fi/liitontoiminta/Saannot_0607.pdf page 24 column 2). It's made so that in the following rounds the better players will get easier opponents, so there are also other rounds taken into account, not only the 1st one. I don't fully understand it so maybe someone else who gets it could explain it better.

yes, should be 3 vs 30 and 4 vs 29 since 3rd was better than 4th and should compete against 30 who got worse result than 29 and should be supposed to be easier opponent... true?

sorry, i dont understand finnish and didnt realize what zebra was referring to. now i guess: supposing the four best players of qualification reach semi finals, then it should be 1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3 for the reason above. thats why 4 is in the upper half of the table. if you would now switch 30 and 29, 30 would be on the easier half until semi finals than 29, but it should be (and is) vice versa...

don't look at the other columns of that finnish page, only the one with 32 participants. All the columns have been generated the same way, but that doesn't explain why they have been generated that way. I'm trying to say is that what you said was the cause, is not the cause but the effect.

edit: after all your explanation does make sense...

Chances are, the person with the most skill and puts forth the effort of Hoyling, will prove to be the winner. Despite who faces 29th position or w/e.

Point is, there will be only 1 winner. (obviously)

I recognize alot of them, but there was some mystery players as well as key players missing. I would say there was more than 87 participants considering there was at least 5? tied times. very nice amount tho.

Hi, at first i would like to thanks team tap for arranging such great event as TEC. The levels are very nice so far, and it contains many styles.

Anyway when i look at the cup table it little suprised me. I played many table-tennis torunaments, and in every 32 player single or double-elimination set-up torunament player 1 was playing against 32 and 16 was playing against 17.
When i gathered pairs from acutal table from tap website, and sorted them by lower number here is what i've got:
1 32
2 31
3 29
4 30
5 26
6 25
7 27
8 28
9 17
10 18
11 19
12 20
13 21
14 22
15 23
16 24

I know that the pairs combinations contains furters pairs..etc. but the first pairs are little weird to me. Specialy look the very big difference between oponents of players 16 and 17 (24 and 9). I think first round pairs should be more like this:

1 32
2 31
3 30
4 29
5 28
6 27
7 26
8 25
9 24
10 23
11 22
12 21
13 20
14 19
15 18
16 17

So the worst place you have the harder oponent you get (including the first round). For me it's obvious.
Here are the tables for the 32 single or double-elimination set-up table that have the same pairs as i told before (but of course in other order):
Polish table tennis federation, prints and terms (page 35)
Air Hockey Resources

I think that single-elimination set-up is more obvious, more fair and from my experience the most popular.
So is there a possibility to change the actual cup sets for the new ones?
