i just added a nice feature : double-click on a .rec file to see it !
just associate .rec files with the application (same with .lev files, but ALE already manages this)

something else :
drag and drop a lev and one or several replays on the window or on any shortcut to the application (like desktop icon) to open files. I found it useful to quickly open files people share on lauta

sure, must be hard without :

maintain left and middle click, and translate mouse.
to re-center on current kuski, click on corresponding row in replay table (the one below viewer)

this is a target camera, so you must keep in mind it rotates around a point in space.
if you lost this point, just give the viewer the focus (typically by clicking inside), and then press 's' key, this will change the cursor, showing you a cross. then choose a point in the scene, it will become the new center of interest of your camera

Ability to assign different colors to different driver's wheels (and/or helmet) would be great.

Great job, but is it normal to ship internals along with program?
When one pays for elma, he, in fact, pays for two things: for registered elma.exe and for registered elma.res (which differs from shareware elma.res mainly in levels).
As you can legally receive registered elma.exe from official site, when you pay for elma, you in fact pay for internals.

And you just drove all levels to public. How you deal with that? :)
Probably, it would be better to process elma.res instead of shipping bunch of levels. If you don't know how, I can help you

noone gives a fuck if someone spreads internals or full version of elma
that's exactly what i've said.
its pretty much considered abandonware
abandonware is a term that applies e.g. to program which author says he doesn't want to deal with it anymore. AFAIK Balazs still poses himself as copyright owner.
if balazs doesnt sue some russian company reverse engineering belma to ds
was it reverse engineered? looks like another ordinary clone.

I didn't intend to moralize on legality or so, i just said that if it takes half an hour to make program more legal and to cut off some size, why not to do it :)

thx Polarix

as you can imagine i spent hours on it, so i think i'm not gonna code it next days/weeks - am little bored. Nonetheless, i still expect feedback on usability, new features people would like to see in the app (john's wish began the list), and obviously what doesn't work (please give the procedure to reproduce the bug, or the rec/lev files)

also, tell me if you find the prog usefull, if you use it sometimes and so on

nota : for people who prefer 2D, there still exist the "Classic" camera view

New release !

change log :
  • Thanks to DaFred and Palme application now presents a new bike model, more ELMA-LIKE
  • New silent update system. Replay directory is parsed only once (btw this may freeze application during first update). Then any appearing or missing file is detected. Last saved replay contents is loaded at application startup
  • corollary : an option allows you to play a replay as soon as downloaded from belma (double-screen feature)
  • Replays comparison : unfocused bikes are transparent while focused bike is opaque
  • Display system improved
  • internal levels are no longer extracted from installer. They are directly included in the app
  • edit : *.rec file association is now done via the installer. Download current version to get this feature
please read website for more information, link in first post

thank you Pawq
but you know, i don't think milagros really needs help, and as far as i imagine belma development is done in assembly (isn't it mila ?). In this case i couldn't be helpful

John, do you like the transparency-focus feature ?

NB : fixed some bugs, a patch is available on website. Current version (1.1) has to be installed for this patch

no i don't need help (also it would be kinda hard to synchronize changes) and there is not much to do except some hardcore asm crypting
the code is(or was) maybe 70/30 c++/asm, however you can't write c++ code alone because it depends on the asm code too much
also i don't really know how skilled are you with socket stuff with multiple connections with undeterministic behaviour and so on
however i must say this replay viewer looks really really nice

if some of you have problems using the application, please say it here.
Thus, i can improve the usability to make the prog fit your expectations. Don't forget it's hard to be the maker and the user at the same time, and things i thought obvious turn ou to be unclear for end-user

Whoa, really an amazing piece of software!

I run some banana cup replays on it: http://up.k10x.net/hjbnkbtykurfm/hardbanana.PNG You can see boneless in the lead and kopaka coming behind, the others struggling far behind (as it was in the cup too). Was nice feature to turn the picture upside down when a gravity part begins and see the level from different angles. Really amazing and maybe with possibility to use ground textures this could be used in youtube videos.

Some things I noticed:
- I was wondering why i got the message 'lev has been modified' when i watched internal replays.
- in the apple list, i can write there something, which is of course funny but maybe not intended
- polygon list was kind of useless but i guess it's there to fill the empty space
- is there a possibility to queue replays, like in a playlist?
- in camera 'free' mode, the camera origin was hard to move (or i didn't find right controls). There could be a help somewhere telling the controls.
- i thought 'remove from list' button would remove an apple from the apple list because it was right next to it

Anyway, the program is already a really cool thing. Thanks.

thank you for feedback, zebra
- I was wondering why i got the message 'lev has been modified' when i watched internal replays.
It must be because i use internal level exports. They must be considered as "edited level". That is, level and replay files include a version number. If these numbers differ, the replay is made on an other level version, and a message pops up. You can turn off this warning in settings window
- in the apple list, i can write there something, which is of course funny but maybe not intended
- i thought 'remove from list' button would remove an apple from the apple list because it was right next to it
i'll fix that
- is there a possibility to queue replays, like in a playlist?
- in camera 'free' mode, the camera origin was hard to move (or i didn't find right controls). There could be a help somewhere telling the controls.
added to the todo list :)

Can't you check whether the level is internal or not? I would like to get the error message from external replays, so i can't turn it off. You can't change the internal levels so the error message is a bit funny.

And another thing: When pressing 'compare replays' is it supposed to list all the replays of that level and only then? When watching replay on level 'internal 5' it finds also replays from levels 'internal 50', 'internal 51' etc.

okay, from now i update a list in first post. It will summarize all things you people pointed out and will help me not to miss something.
Again, thx for feedback zebra

EDIT 01/07/09 : bugs fixed, patch is up to date on website

added more :
Start and end are indicated with a annotated text when you open a lev without rec (using RRO as a level viewer)
Fixed loading time bug concerning wide sized recs (smibu80 for example)

evolutions :
- support multiplayer recs (at last!)
- playlist feature (music player's playlist behavior, see first post picture)
- new installer -> file associations and context menu entries

improvements :
- possibility to attach text annotations to bikes when comparing recs or watching multiplayer recs
- drag'n drop files behaviour improved
- context menus in file lists, see below
- new icon set
- better control over fps
- fixed multiple bugs
belma mode pb
search field lag
bike focus fuck <=
droping files made the labels becoming white...
- sensibly improved performances

also, if you see english errors (in the app) you'd like to see fixed, pm me

patch is up on website, i think no need to reinstall unless you want file associations and context menu entries

nothing tested with Vista fuck
