Official EOL Level Pack (release: aug 12. 2011 21:00 EET)

Post by Kopaka »

Some of the beta testers of coming elma online (EOL) has decided to make an official level pack to be released with it. The pack will (hopefully) consist of levels from todays best level makers.

A small group of the beta testers will pick out the levels.

We haven't decided that much about it yet, but I wanted to make this topic now, so people can start making levels. Anyone can feel free to make a level, but obviously we can't promise it will make it to the final pack. But if you put some effort into it, you should have a good chance.

For now you can send them to me on sunehs@gmail.com

I will try to make something, I guess it's no need to worry about dates now since you haven't mentioned one.

Maybe 54 would be a good amount, unless we don't get that many good ones ;)

It should be normal level pack / internal like levels, think of it was OLP2 or Internals 3 or whatever

and yes nin, no certain date yet, but try to make the levels within the next month or something

I'll try to make something there too, it would be really nice if I got a level through to this pack. For me there is a problem though that I always fail when I try to make a really nice level that would be important. But I'll do my best. =)

And for the levelchoosers I'd like to say that personally I'd like to see some not-so-planned levels there because so often the coolest tricks are unintended. I think it's because when a levelmaker has an idea of his cool style (which very seldom is more cool than what unintended styles often are) he often kills all the other styles and then during long term hoyling the level becomes boring. So please take some randomish levels even from not so well-known designers to there! :D (and I don't mean it should be just some kind of sick apple harvest but you'll know when level looks interesting and seems to have some problemous places that propably can be done fast; you just don't immedetially see how. Also I must say I'm personally bad in doing that kind of levels though but sometimes I do those accidentally).

And so far with "style" I have ment just a way to complete a problemous part of the level - not a completely different route. So often all the cuplevels just have numerous different routes that are in worst case very monostyle each - you are basically only driving many different levels and trying to find the shortest one, which at least I dislike.

I have a few questions :)
1) what is this, like a new internal level pack or just a collection of random levels (comparable to the moposite custom levelpack)?
2) Can I make more than one level, or is it max one per designer?
3) What will the pack be used for? will there be a recordtable, personal usage for players, EOL playing etc.
4) Who's in the group of beta testers?

I understand if you can't answer this now (like you said, "We haven't decided that much about it yet"), but it would be nice if you could get back to me as sson as you know :)

1. we're not gonna replace the internals obvously, but like I said, like olp or something
2. I guess if we get enough, we'll only have one per designer, but I somehow don't expect 54 ppl to make levels, so you can make more but we'll see
3. there will be record list on elma online site ofcourse (updated as you drive them like all other stuff there)
4. http://elmaonline.moposite.com/?s=players

Thank you for your answers :)! I will definitely make some levels! But I have never really tried to make internalistic levels before. We'll see how I do.

I will try to make one level. Rather nice to have one in it that's actually unplanned throughout.

edit; I made one and sent it, but it's not really a fish level, so that's a bit of a disappointment I guess. However, it should still be an okay level worthy of inclusion in this pack.

Are the levels allowed to be battled? On the other hand their styles may have been revealed but on the other hand they have been tested by many players to be interesting or not.

For example I have battled my best levels even though I have tried to save the best ones - it's hard to know if level is good or not before people hoyl it.

i thought it would be really cool with some level pack in belma (not höyl pack)with 10 basic 10 mediocre 10 hard 10 impossible difficulty levels. basic levs could be rather easy short levs with easy routes, medium and hard levs would be less forgiving and impossible levs would basically require exactly correct presses to be finished.

for a new player in the scene easy levels should feel like basic internal levs, medium one of the hardest internal levs, such as enigma. hard levs would require good execution to complete some part. and impossible lev would be really hard for anyone but not frustratingly annoying. not too long levels, 1min~ max requiring nearly perfect moves.

then we come to the badges, if there will be badge points system each finish would grant points, for example easy levs weighing 1x, medium 2x, hard 5x, impossible 20x

smibu and antz are good at making impsy looking levs as a whole, where the style to use isn't obvious at all. I can make levs where player knows the route but just cant do it without knowing the exact correct buttonpresses(frustrating part), those are most of the time impsy for the beginner because they simply dont master the bike well enough but the whole point IS that ppl cant finish all the levels easily like internals. and this is when the point system for this kind of pack would kickass, compete with the other players, maybe try to finish an impossible level which weighs as much as all medium lev's combined.

the point system can be tweaked, i came up with this shit in about 2 mins today morning so plenty of stuff hasnt been thought thoroughly, i wanted to bring it up here for open discussion before consuming energy for anything else

hell if kopaka doesnt warm about this suggestion i might consider doing it an external contest, which doesnt take part on eol site. so if any designers are interested in making easy, medium, hard or impossible levels, be my guest. my idea is 10 of each to create a level pack with 40 levels with progressive difficulty. again the numbers can be different like 5 each to get 20 total.

"easy" : easy for anyone, even the beginner
"medium" : challenge for the beginner (played for few days), easy for the rest
"hard": shouldn't be a problem for the top 50 players with some practice, the rest will struggle
"impossible": everyone will struggle, everyone will have piss in ass

I have some shit going on but i have 3 weeks off from real life in august, then I can do something about this(=not eol pack but what we discussed few posts earlier) if I can keep my interest on it alive, also if I dont get design help it will be very fatal to the project :D

Zweq's idea is ok but i think EOL lev pack shouldn't be that kind of pack. It should be quite normal level pack after all. Let's not scare noobs away ;)

I'm not saying that very hard level inevitably sucks but usually the easier the level is, the better it is. That has been one of my main principles when I have designed my levels. Even the level is rather easy, there are usually some tricks and styles possible where pro players can distinguish themselves from noobs.

yeah I wasnt explicit enough, I meant it as a parallel pack that should serve the same purpose as internals except that the difficulty would scale with today's skills. at least I think internals were meant to have progressive difficulty where expert system etc were supposed to be a challenge to the player

It's funny because a level like Hooked is now max ez hoyla and it is the 2nd hardest! :) In my opinion, levels like Animal Farm or Labyrinth Pro should have been much more near the end, also :?

But I think zebra is right, the levels have to be easy so it won't be frustrating to hoyl for WRs, but they also have to include cool styles (think about steppes, the level is easy but you can make it with a mango jump, or Freefall, or Ramp, etc.)

Solution: make easy levels with possible awesome styles (and possibly let some things "impsy?" so that madmen like Zweq can surprise everybody with a WTF MANGO BRUTAL AWESOME SHIT in eight years).
