Elma on LCD

Post by Madness »

I was trying to play elma on LCD monitor and I've found out it's totally impsy, the screen was blurred as fuck. I don't really understand how anyone can play elma on LCD. o,o
There are no major problems with sharpness on LCD out of elma, although it always seems kinda shitty.
(tried atleast 5 different LCDs with the same result).

Anyone noticed the same ? What monitor are you using ?

i use LCD and its not blurred or i get used to it, dunno... I have no other monitors than LCDs, so no other option anyway... I guess CTR would still be better, but not possible anymore.
P.S. now i noticed it's a bit blurred when rotating. Maybe thats why i suck at piping (and also impsy "left"+"up"+"space" :(( ).

I still think it's the resolution that blurs it. For example my laptop's resolution is 1366x768, so I need to set it manually to get sharp picture.

Madness:
1) you must play in native resolution
2) get latest graphic card drivers and adjust your LCD.

It's all set like that, even the screen is not that blurred after all, but it's still so much ugly, it has weird colors, details are fucked up (looks like 16 colors or smth) and it's so weird while turning. Who has never tried CRT, won't understand.

Nvm, just got two 17" CRT monitors, which are sharp as knife. 8)

Whatever you like, but LCD is much more eye friendly. I've been playing elma and other games on CRT/TVs for circa 15 years since early 90s and I know that on LCD it isn't that sharp. But once you get used to different colors, brightness etc you won't like to use CRT again anymore.

I noticed some blurring or lagging when I changed from CRT to LCD, mainly because the frame rate dropped from 100 to 60. But after some hours I didn't anymore notice anything. The resolution is full hd and it's working well.

Some things you should take into account:
- monitor's gray to gray latency: if the monitor is too slow, that will cause some lagging or blurring. 5 ms might be too slow, 2 ms is good. Anyway there are differencies between monitors so there are exceptions.
- use vsync. Without vsync there are usually some graphics problems on LCD, at least I have had.
- use monitor's native resolution. Remember that elma config always forgots the other dimension so you have to check the resolution always if you change something.
