When does the day change?

Post by Lousku »

I'll explain! Technically days change at midnight, but it's pretty damn assburgerish and confusing to say "I'm going to work today" at 00:01. At some arbitrary or non-arbitrary time it will sound normal to say "today" in that sentence. Sleep is usually an easy border, but sometimes we skip nights or sleep at societally monstrous times. So, at what time do you stop saying "tomorrow" and start saying "today"?

I've thought about this long and hard, and my conclusion is 4:30. It just feels right.

I've struggled with the problem often but never really thought about it further. But ye, 4:30 sounds just about right =)

What are your definitions of times then? eg:

05:00-09:00 morning
09:00-11:00 forenoon
11:00-13:30 lunch
13:30-17:00 afternoon
17:00-22:00 evening
22:00-05:00 night

Ooh, yes, that's important too! My simple definitions:

06:00-12:00 morning
12:00-18:00 day
18:00-00:00 evening
00:00-06:00 night

I don't recognise forenoon and afternoon.
