Zero Dark Thirty - 7/10
Might go see it again, it's very close to an 8. Perhaps a second viewing will make the rating jump up a notch.
Flight - 6/10
Not what I had expected. Denzel was decent, as he mostly is, but I had a hard time sympathizing with him because he was too much of an idiot. Weak 6.

Iron Sky 7,5/10
Dr. Strangelove but a bit more modern. Was very amusing, although I watched in alone. It's lovely to see more languages in a film, it makes it all a bit more credible (not the story, but the dramaturgy). Weird, funny, sharp but a bit too thin in the end maybe. I just hate it the films wound up going so fast. There was only one "3 months" later moment. I like phased stories, it makes it all a bit more feasible. From the moment of the attack until the end of the film it all seems continuous action, which completely removes all other layers of the film, ultimately flattening the plot. I guess that is what films must do, rounding it up, but I don't like roundups. Otherwise good movie though.

The Good:
The Shawshank Redemption (1994) - 9/10 -> 10/10
The Last Samurai (2003) - 9/10
Moonrise Kingdom (2012) - 8/10
The Fighter (2010) - 8/10
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005) - 8/10
Amelie (2001) - 8/10
500 Days of Summer (2009) - 7/10
The Shawshank Redemption must be one of the best out there. I love the theme of Japan and oriental stuff, plus Tom Cruise is ok, great cinematography + great story = The Last Samurai, great film. I'm glad to see how everyone is enjoying Moonrise Kingdom, such a heart-warming film :) The Fighter was good, imo way better than Ali. Bale was incredible o/ Finally watched Amelie too... <3 And Michelle Monaghan in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang must be one of the cutest and sweetest characters I've ever seen! Great film overall =)
The Bad:
For Your Eyes Only (1981) - 3/10
Love and Other Drugs (2010) - 4/10
Casino Royale (1967) - 3/10
For Your Eyes Only was really boring, easily one of the worst bonds so far. Casino Royale was just meh
And The Ugly:
Snow White and Russian Red (2009) - 3/10
"Wojna Polsko Ruska", polish film basically about a tale of the absolute bottom of the society. Sick shit, I hated it, the only upside was the main character played by Borys Szyc, one of the polish top actors, he was amazing :0
gotta finally watch V for Vendetta too! :!

Resident Evil: Retribution (2012) - 6/10
Cool fights, I love Milla etc etc, but the original Resident Evil feeling was not there as I had hoped.
Loved the ending though and I can't really believe there will be another followup next year o,o
The "Red Queen" was presented much better in the earlier movies aswell, not as scary in this one =)

I totally agree that Kate Beckinsale is sexy (seen Total Recall? daaaame...), but Milla Jovovish just annoys the hell out of me :< Maybe because the first film with her I've seen was Stone, where she played a terribly annoying bitch, but still... :<

I've just woken up after a Pixar vs. DreamWorks all-nighter in the students' cinema, AWESOME!
6 balles:
Shrek vs. Toy Story
A Bug's Life vs. Antz
The Incredibles vs. Megamind
Finding Nemo vs. Kung Fu Panda
Ratatouille vs. Madagascar
WALL·E vs. How to Train Your Dragon
Shrek (2001) - 9/10 still
A Bug's Life (1998) - 8/10, huge love of my childhood <3
The Incredibles (2004) - 8/10 still
Finding Nemo (2003) - 9/10 still, probably the most beautiful animated film I've ever seen
Madagascar (2005) - 7/10 I never was a big fan
WALL·E (2008) - 9/10 -> 10/10 just <33333333333333
Pixar won 4:2 overall (Toy Story, A Bug's Life, Finding Nemo, Ratatouille. The Incredibles and WALL·E lost), but wins 5:1 for me even though Monsters Inc. wasn't there, only How to Train Your Dragon saves DreamWorks, as it's my favourite of all :D
6pm -> 8am, such a wonderful night <3333333333

Shrek for sure
Bug´s life (obv.)
this one is hard, but i prefer The incredibles
Finding Nemo definitely
eh this one is even harder, both are megaawesomeness, but i think Madagascar has 9.95/10 while Ratatouille 9.90/10
Wall-e rocks.

After going out of the students union at 8am I felt as happy and fulfilled as I haven't for a long time, even though the previous day was one of the worst days this year. When I went to bed and wrapped in the sheets, the only thing I could think about was how lovable WALL·E is.
I think that's enough of a reason ;)

Re: IMDB votelists
Because these days it's easier for the common man to associate with a robot rather than what hollywood portrays as the "average" person. We unwillingly live our lives in very robot-esque ways, and thus we find it easier to empathize with a robot that's even more of a robot than we (even though the difference is very slim).

MINOR SPOILER ALERT I was very eager to see it, especially after the overly charming Jennifer won the oscar, and God it was worth it!!! Great story (THANK GOD for the happy ending!), fantastic acting from all of the main 4 characters (after all 3 of them were nominated for an oscar!), great music (dancing to White Stripes and Dave Brubeck in one go?! :D), great humour... My favourite film of 2012 so far =)

TJ, I saw one movie last year, Inception, I always see 1 movie per year, when trying to see how it's like, see if something changed. So the project plan was as usual: Somebody (this time it was my ex from like another decade) chooses a good movie, and I'm watching with that person, trying to exclude any premature bias and trying to focus and leech as much pleasure as possible.
So we were watching, of course I caught myself off guard multiple times, but somehow I managed to head the direction of my sight towards the screen for the whole movie. Basically I remember Di Caprio was there, and there were dreams in dreams in dreams, too. (WOW SUPER COOL IDEA MAX CAN YOU IMAGINE!!!! DREAM IN A DREAM AND LOL AND WOW!!! YES GENIUS GENIUS HOW!!! HOW I AASK!! nat) So ye, I'm totally surprised as usual what people see that is so great in these. I can't even watch properly cuz almost all the time I'm visualising how it looks like when I'm senselssly staring at the screen and I'm constantly facepalming or laughing at myself (mostly in-mind, sometimes irl). It was November, so I guess I'll need some 6 more months now, till my facepalm expires and maybe maybe I will try to watch another movie. But nah rly can't imagine what kind of shit must ppl have in mind to watch on a daily basis.

I guess i can agree with where you are coming from but i think the way i see movies is different. I also think that mindless staring at screen is stupid etc, but i can easily get drawn into a movie with one requirement:
If the movie itself doesn't lend itself to me elaborating and imagining new premises and storyline and character then i don't really like it.
I need to let my imagination run wild to find a movie good at all

Re: IMDB votelists
Obviously it's completely fine to like or dislike movies, neither needs justification. It could be compared to a simpler matter of taste, let's say blue cheese. I can't stand it, but I understand it must taste somehow different for people who love it. Neither party can give objective reasons why blue cheese is good/bad, so discussing it can't change opinions. Let's not pretend that every mind works the same, that would be terribly boring. :)
then again i don't know anything
maybe easier not to think abouut alöl things thought than not things thought ... or something..=?

Re: IMDB votelists
I try to watch only films which are considered an art (by me or unbiased reviewers) (5%), not those, whose first idea was to earn money (95%). This makes pretty good filter what to watch and what not. And it gives pleasure watching a good film. I used to go to theatre every month at least once, but those nabs closed it. No theatre in our town anymore. The nearest is CineMax like 50km away, which adds +3€ to each film cost. Latest film like this was Dark Knight Rising iirc, or was it Hobbit? prolly. It was good experience, going to cinema. Much better than being at home. Plus you need to have good party with you.
This is what is really enjoyable on the whole movies' mindset.

i also dont like movies, but i have to admit i have some strange weak spot with clichë romantic stuff... they affect me very stronkly o.O otherwise i prefer dynamic experiences aka games
