Yes, imo some prominent players in the internal scene or likewise should do teh, not just anyone raising their hands. zweq and john good choises, then maybe madness, bjenn, talli and possibly anp, luther?Madness wrote:Let it be anyone but Tigro, please. That would be a catastrophe...

Re: Internals index thread
Doesn't have to be a prominent player. Anyone with a good approach to digging and formatting publicly available information can do it. Some insight in history of style development etc helps.
My suggested structure:
- Map (good resolution with visible pictures, objects, bike, grass etc.)
- When created (as Abula suggested), fun facts, brief description etc.
- Current WR or Top-10 best times
- WR development (with replays linked to times if public) and analysis of each record
- History of style development with quotes, recs, interviews, analysis etc.
- Current saveload (TAS) record, TAS and theoretical styles speculation

Re: Internals index thread
i think if 27 kuskis took each 2 levs to make, it would be pretty easy to maintain. not one kuski to do everything, just 2 levs or such..
or 18 kuskis took 3 levs each, e.g. i would take WU, UB, Steppes or so..
edit: like John said. Is there possibility to make some more ppl mods of just certain subforum? it would help alot.
Zweq: nice, yeh that start sux, ez make some little programik to show grass and all textures nicely, as well as flowa and killers and start?

Re: Internals index thread
I think what John said is the way to go. Make a shared account that some (or all?) can use to post and edit the first posts. That way if someone ever leaves the scene (like zweq retiring or so) the posts will still be accessible and editable.

Re: Internals index thread
Wasn't the main reason/idea behind the forum to have a specific place to discuss each internal. The kind of information you are talking about now would be easier maintained on the wiki(no reason to come up with some fancy way to do it here) and the first post could simply have a link and the basic info that doesn't change, or the information copied in once in a while. Could still have an Internal psuedonym of course so it doesn't live and die with one person to create them.
Re: Internals index thread
Honestly, I feel that the Elma scene is too scattered these days. Stats here, upload here, records here and I don't really have a clue about any of those but have to ask for urls all the time. One advantage of having this internal info on mopolauta is the accessibility. Another advantage is the discussion possible. On a wiki it would only be "WR replay from #225" but here someone might ask "I don't really get that style in WR replay from #225, could someone explain it to me?". It's a much more lively discussion, and it would be left in a structured way for others to read later on as well.Kopaka wrote:Wasn't the main reason/idea behind the forum to have a specific place to discuss each internal. I think you're right. A wiki is not as hands-on as these subforums. That being said I don't think a wiki is a bad idea either, but in this case I vote for the subforums and let someone else contribute to the wiki.Tigro wrote:let's face the truth, the whole wiki project is not working.
Re: Internals index thread
just talk on lauta then take that to build up elmaonline wiki pages.
the difference is on lauta no need for structured information, just informational talking. stuff from there can then serve to enrich the wiki.
and i don't see any reason for the wiki project not to be working. everything is being moved there nowadays, and is building up to be the prime reference (for certain aspects).

the wiki is to be. (for the sake of effort convergence.)John wrote:it's a knowledge database.

yes, true.John wrote:That being said I don't think a wiki is a bad idea either,...
But in this case, wiki is a bit unpopular here. people don't mind contributing to another site, while lauta is here.
Re: Internals index thread
Abula, I think we all agree to what the first posts should look like so now it's up to you to decide if common psuedonym or single users should start the topics. If you decide psuedonym is a GO I could create the user and start making topics right away, I'm bored and feeling creative which is a good mix for this :o
Re: Internals index thread
Remember to start with making "54. Apple Harvest" and end with "01. Warm Up" (if I'm not mistaken), and remember to make them all announcements. Speaking of which, I think only mods/admins can make these announcement threads unless different privileges are set, like in the testing forum.

Also curious about teh, we doing anything with this or not? Since nothing is happening with this at all, id say it doesnt matter how and what and how fast anything gets done as long as some form of... stuff... gets made. Besides can always constantly edit post.

looking at the AH post i realize there is probably a lot of historic investigative work that needs to be done
as for style invention for each lev feels a bit impsy without a good chunk of old wr recs. maybe can get most of them somehow? (at least if they are more than 5yrs old following the moposite rule)

Re: Internals index thread
Yeah, sorry Pawq, but I wanted to show some sort of layout and own recs was easiest to throw in there.
Feel free to post urls to other recs here (I used kopa's upload and "Forever") and maybe a short description if some new styles at the time were first used etc. I will update the first posts as more info is submitted.

Re: Internals index thread
maybe include current wr also for each lev, not rec neccesarily just info, feels a bit inconsistent with like 2nd oldest wr rec, and here is 5th place rec with different style, and here is an older rec from table #135 etc,
or show world top 3-5 times or something?

Re: Internals index thread
maybe include whole wr history of the lev, and maybe attach every possible rec to it.. plus some brief comment of some peculiarities (like psy making 14 AH records in a row)
Re: Internals index thread
i think role of the index should be mainly for style discussion. Wikis are much more powerful for storing and updating information

Re: Internals index thread
While wikis are indeed perfect for this in theory, we've all seen kuskis just don't bother using them.
So while the threads should indeed focus on styles, tricks and advice, the first posts would serve as a good reference point summarizing basically all history and facts about the level and its development over time.
My suggested layout:
54. Apple Harvest (QWQUU054)
[ Map ]
(would be nice if someone could make maps with pictures and apples and everything as suggested before)
[ Best Times ]
- Current WR (with rec if public)
- Current World Top 10 times
[ Facts ]
- Number of apples: 28
- Number of WR improvements: 41
- Number of different WR-holders: 15
- First appeared in: v 1.x
[ Trivia ]
- Back in 2003 psy improved his own WR in Apple Harvest from 1:35,30 to 1:29,55 over the course of 4 months and 13 different updates.
- The internal with the highest amount of apples.
[ WR & Style Development History ]
(just pasted from moposite statistics, nationalities and teams can probably be omitted for readability)
(first I thought development and analysis/backstory should be kept in two separate sections but I think it's more readable as on continuous piece)
1. Champi0N [PRA] Swedish 2:02,63 #1 (optional: date of the WR table update, I think it's more relatable than just the table number)
After every improvement there should be some backstory and analysis, if any is available. Also can give general description of the route, who discovered it or certain tricks if not the WR owner, some behind the scenes drama etc., kind of Internal Memories style (quotes or links to interviews would be awesome too). The more information about the styles we can gather, the better.
2. psy [FM] Finnish 2:02,30 #2
If it's a minor improvement with the same style, backstory doesn't need to be as long, I guess.
3. ramone Swedish 1:56,66 #3
For relatively major improvements of course we want to know what exactly was changed in the route.
4. Champi0N [PRA] Swedish 1:55,98 #12
Other interesting trivia can be given here too, like (example) if this was Champi0n's last WR before disappearing, 10th WR, longest standing WR, one of 5 WRs he improved on that table. 10th table in a row, biggest relative/absolute improvement (in this level) etc.
5. Rainman [SAT] Swedish 1:55,46 #16
6. Markku [MC] Finnish 1:54,56 #17

Re: Internals index thread
Good feedback! I've been thinking of many of those stats but I feel I'd rather have 54 half complete threads to begin with rather than 8 huge ones. Also, I could really need some help with putting all this info together. Just contact me by PM or however you want and I'll post it.
Thundr, I agree with the rec issue. My vision is to have as many of the WR-recs as possible together with info on different styles and perhaps talk about "dream"-styles that's been thought of but not made yet.
Keep the feedback coming and send info if you like. I'm only on my cellphone atm, will write more later.

maybe some kuskis could have "claimed" some levels and gather all possible info about it, then just PM to John and he will fit it into good shape and post into Internals index thread.

In general when talking about styles in 02, 27, 31, 45 etc its gonna be more or less required to talk about fps since its the main contributor to those certain styles being invented/became possible in the first place.Xarthok wrote:Another addition: optimal FPS value

Another idea would be listing the different routes (with recs) and putting some sort of tutorials explaining the hardest tricks in each of them, I think that would help a lot of players.

I don't really understand the need to make remixes. It's so fast to make an original lev from scratch, why would you gamble on a borderline acceptable lev?
Reached offtopic in four posts, hurray.

Re: Internals index thread
Fps values indeed are pretty subjective, maybe a range of working fps's for each level and perhaps even for styles in levels could be given e.g Shelf life: Fps: 60-400, or: anything up to 400ish (for zweq style). 300-400 (for wr style stretch). In general when talking about styles in 02, 27, 31, 45 etc its gonna be more or less required to talk about fps since its the main contributor to those certain styles being invented/became possible in the first place.

Ppl can find the best value from the range for themselves. At least in shelf life the range in which the HOLE can be done is so huge that i find it hard to recommend any fixed values. It can be done with a bit over 400fps if want, that'll give you a nicer grip all over but makes hole a bit slower and/or harder to execute (or out right impsy for newbies in lev), whereas some 60 makes for an ez hang (unless prohoyling, in that case u'll shoot straight up so hard that u'll die without an exception), but you lose much in grip and it makes bounce more instable, not to mention the stretch.
Fps in int27 is also somewhat a matter of profiniency in lev, and the optimal value will change according to your competence and is also affected by your style of playing, my personal favourite fps there is 370, but i bet Kazan and Jamppa use different ones, altough probably both are in the 3xx zone. !!!eziest way to determine the proper fps for max grip and decent hang is to try methodically from high to low fps until you find the highest possible fps that you can pass to the hang and try to go higher and higher from time to time as you get better in the lev until you've found your limit fps in which to pass to hang...Should give you he best "grip to hang" ratio in no time
By giving referential fps ranges and some insight into how and where it affects your gameplay, it's easier for those who start hoyling from scratch to choose the appropriate value for chosen style, and most importantly they then know WHY to choose it and may gain some understanding quicker over the level and/or frame rates.
...Sry, turned out ranting instead of simply suggesting

Re: Internals index thread
stop posting there for now, we are just adding more work to John to delete all those posts there.snajdig in labpro thread wrote:what is your aim with these topics?
the aim is to gather all the valuable info about the internals and discuss their future. We have seen that elmawiki barely does this, cuz too few ppl go there, if any at all.
Re: Internals index thread
Yeoh, sorry for making irrelevant posts in those topics. Great effort, John, thank you for this!
then again i don't know anything
