Ok. I've been using Opera for 2 or 3 weeks now - I wanted to try it out properly. Today, with great relief, I'm going back to Chrome :( I'd love a combination of both, but well... Here are some of the pros and cones that lead to the change:
Response/loading time:
- Chrome: fast, new tabs open instantaneously, pages load in 1-3 seconds
- Opera: slow! new tabs open instantaneously, but pages often load in about 5 seconds!
Searching within websites:
- Chrome: yellow bars on the scrollbar where the results appear (cool, but not necessary)
- Chrome: moving to the next result with enter (very useful)
- Opera: dimming the website when highlighting results (cool, but not necessary)
- Opera: moving to the next result with Ctrl+G (very annoying; seriously - orka search for the shortcut in a mile long list)
Saving passwords:
- Chrome: meh. doesn't remember password for Blackboard website (uni stuff), which I access like 10000 times a day, and it SUCKS.
- Opera: here it (almost) wins my heart. an awesome system which remembers passwords for all sites, and allows you to log in just clicking the key button.
Auto-fill:
- Opera: cool ability to save default data for all kinds of fields
Bookmarks:
- Chrome: awesome bar, easy adding, easy removal, easy management
- Opera: worst system ever -.- after adding a bookmark I have to go to bookmarks page and tick "show in bookmarks toolbar"... maybe I'm just dumb, but I couldn't figure out a way to change this
- Opera: can't open bookmarks from folders with scroller click (very annoying)
- Opera: possible to show only icons in bookmarks bar (didn't use it anyway, so quite useless for me)
Pictures:
- Opera: often doesn't recognise images - e.g. in "half-full-screen mode" in facebook, can't just right click and open image in new tab
Memory Usage:
- Opera: uses less. but not much less, actually. 400mb vs. Chrome's 460mb at the moment, with similar load. and anyway, what difference do 50mb (or even 200mb!) make when there are spare 2gb...
Downloading:
- Chrome: cool dl bar on the bottom, default save location
- Opera: can't set a default location - it asks each time anyway
+4 for Chrome, -1 for Opera
That's all I remember right now... Maybe it's possible to easily overcome some of those cons, I'll gladly accept any guidance, but those are my observations after a few weeks.

Chrome has a fantastic auto-fill and password remembering system... not sure why you have problems with it...
Re: Best Browser? [Poll reset with new options 2010/01/22]
It doesn't recognise this website Blackboard. It's a known issue, but Opera seems to go around it.

Re: Best Browser? [Poll reset with new options 2010/01/22]
well, if we're talking about engines, yeah
Re: Best Browser? [Poll reset with new options 2010/01/22]
After week or so of using Opera 15 I think it's very bad. They took away all good features that made Opera 12xx good. Almost zero customization, no syncing, no notes, no tab stacking, no bookmarks, no easy access to recently closed tabs, most of shortcuts are gone and many more features are gone. Chromimum is resource hog too. What I got are just slightly faster load times and crappy interface.Ville_J wrote:The end of the world is coming: Opera is turning in to shit. I find Opera O.K. on Linux engines, on Win I use Chrome.
