Made a new post so that you guys could easier copy the nominations from my first post and add your comments.

If possible I'll watch the show live on TV just like I have the last 3 or so years. Unfortunately, though I'm interested I haven't had the time to watch that many of the movies yet, but I should be able to squeeze in a few more viewings before the show. Here's some of my not so insightful opinions, haven't paid much attention to the past awards season or such.

Best Motion Picture of the Year:
American Hustle (2013)
Haven't seen this one yet but should be able to before the show. Don't think I will like it as much as some of the other nominees though.
Captain Phillips (2013)
Tom Hanks decent as usual. Nice movie but not Oscar material imo.
Dallas Buyers Club (2013)
Gravity (2013)
If taking into account the experience I had the first (out of I think three) times I watched this it's the best movie of the bunch that I've seen. I'm not too sure the Academy would ever give an Oscar to a movie like this, it simply lacks that political or controversial theme that I think many of the Academy's winners have. I'm hoping Gravity will win.

12 Years a Slave (2013)
Good, but not as good as expected. Seemed a bit like too much of an Oscar vehicle, like an Oscar minibus occupied by Brad Pitt, Paul Giamatti, Cumberbatch, Fassbender, Paul Dano and Chiwetel Ejiofor. They probably smelled awards already when reading the script. Possible winner. Political and controversial theme: Slavery and racism.
The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)
The best movie I've seen since Gravity :) 3 hours of pure entertainment based on a true story (which the Academy likes). If not Gravity I'm hoping this one will win.

I like him, I think he's a good actor with a sense of humouristic timing. Very believable as a Wall Street playboy. Hoping for DiCaprio actually.

Pretty good performance although not fully buying his acting always.

Very good performance as a hysterical alcoholic. My vote goes to her.

The movie was great and I liked Sandra's performance very much although it's undermined by Blanchett's performance in Blue Jasmine imo. Blanchett or Bullock ftw hopefully.

Please, not another Meryl Streep nomination, so fukkin boring! She's not even that much more exceptional than anyone else.

It's a tie between Scorsese and Cuarón. Last time Scorsese won an Oscar it was for The Departed, starring DiCaprio. Kinda hoping for Scorsese here, he's been nominated so many times without winning.

Gravity most of all should be viewed in a movie theatre but there are other ways to enjoy movies. Rent, stream, download or whatever. It's been the same thing for many years for me now: I like the Oscars and it's cool to watch and root for your favorites and stuff. BUT in recent years I haven't really watched new movies, this year the The Hobbit: DOS being the only one I've seen. Around this time every year I try to get myself to watch some of the nominated movies but rarely I find the time for it.

I was quite disappointed by 12 Years a Slave, I thought the overall theatre-like direction and acting didn't match the depressing plot at all, some scenes seemed downright funny (people at the cinema were laughing). And it wasn't touching at all for me, I don't know if the main character just wasn't likeable enough, the backstory wasn't good enough or what but it just didn't work for me. Also, like some people at imdb.com said, it didn't feel like 12 years at all, more like a few months max. So yeah, I'm puzzled by the ratings and everything.

Gravity won 7 Oscars o/ Don't think 12 Years a Slave deserved to win Best Picture but as Ellen (who did a great hosting btw) said, either 12 Years a Slave wins the Oscar or we're all racist :P Cate Blanchett not a big surprise. Dallas Buyers Club winning both male lead and supporting actor, guess I must have a look when have the opportunity. Overall a good show and deserving winners.

I liked American Hustle more than Wolf of Wall Street, actually it's my favourite of the Oscar nominees this year and will porbably stay like that. I have no plans to watch 12 Years a Slave.
