Concerning Brexit according to The Telegraph: "London backed Remain, but the turnout was lower than expected because of bad weather."
That's Brits for you alright. I can't help but wonder if the UK would have remained in the EU had the weather been better.

Re: Britain leaves the EU
Well, there's a couple of years left before they can officially leave as far as I'm aware. But they certainly did vote to leave. Nice.
If people don't want to vote because of a spot of bad weather, that's their business. They obviously don't care enough about the outcome and are complicit in the result.

Re: Britain leaves the EU
Democratic votes can be so surreal sometimes. Onle like half of the country is happy with the decision and yet it is being made. So what are the unhappy 48% supposed to do now, just go home and go on with their lives as if nothing happened? Kinda strange.

decisions made with majority vote is surreal?kuchitsu wrote:Democratic votes can be so surreal sometimes
brexit won by 1.6 million votes, pretty significantkuchitsu wrote: Onle like half of the country is happy with the decision and yet it is being made

i wish finland would leave also, it has been net negative for us and by leaving we could get autonomy again instead of having to follow EU laws and regulations and be on the whims of faceless EU bureaucrats. centralized decision making on this scale doesnt work when each country has different needs + EU let all the shitter countries like greece in so its a total shit show now, i think long term british people will be better off
Re: Britain leaves the EU
I would be convinced by something like 80% vs 20% maybe, but doing stuff that half of the country is unhappy seems very weird imo. Might as well split the country in two then or whatever. One half leaves, other remains, all are satisfied. But yeah, democratic votes are kinda weird in general in that they basically just satisfy the majority and say fuck you to the rest. Like let's say 60% of kuskis vote for battle cup being played at evening and 40% at day. The evening crowd wins and now the day crowd can't play at all. Can you really call that situation a democratic win? To me it's more like a big FAIL of the organiser being unable to find a better solution. Looking for compromises usually seems better than giving the middle finger to the minority. At least in cases where the difference is so small.

Which EU laws and regulations in particular are you referring to?Vermin Supreme wrote:i wish finland would leave also, it has been net negative for us and by leaving we could get autonomy again instead of having to follow EU laws and regulations and be on the whims of faceless EU bureaucrats. centralized decision making on this scale doesnt work when each country has different needs + EU let all the shitter countries like greece in so its a total shit show now, i think long term british people will be better off
Re: Britain leaves the EU
I kind of agree with you, but there's no other solution here, you can either please 52% of people or 48% of people. And it might actually split the country into two if there's another referendum on Scottish independence.kuchitsu wrote:I would be convinced by something like 80% vs 20% maybe, but doing stuff that half of the country is unhappy seems very weird imo. Re: Britain leaves the EU
There should be a higher threshold for life-changing things like this one, I'd say 60%. I'm not denying the majority who voted for leave, though, but some of the graphs showed that it was more old people and people outside of London who voted more for leaving and honestly I'm not surprised. Every election in Slovakia also seems this way, people from the capital aren't voting for the biggest 'pseudo-socialist' populists and people from the east just think that capital is taking all of the money that could be used for development of their region instead, so they vote for them. And also there has been some shady stuff with the 350m libres, so some people only voted for leaving because of it. I'm pretty sure nobody knows what will happen next and whether it was a good decision to leave, but it will definitely be a clusterfuck for a while.
