Start Position Contest has started!

Post by zworqy »

How about this: Someone makes an unlocked level. Then he moves the start position high up into the sky or some other obviously wrong place.

Then people get to guess where the original start was, by opening the level in the editor and reposition the start object. The one who puts the start object closest to the right spot wins, of course.

What do you think? Cool or Stupid?

The first round is over! The winner is Kopaka [cEp]!

Visit my site to see his level and the original level.

Also new level is up now! The rules are slightly changed now though.
Instead of just placing the start, you're supposed to finish the level as fast as possible.

So, in other words, this is a normal "finish-the-level-as-fast-as-possible contest" except for the fact that you can start where ever you want (-:

is it me or could you just plonk the start on the exit, and do nothing, maybe making a Zone(s) where you can plonk the start. still, very easy to win this one

Read the rules. The only thing you're allowed to do in the level is to move the start. Since there are apples in the level it's not sure where the fastest place to start would be.

*disappointed* :(

Only 1 has sent in an entry in the contest; Serj with the time 56:61.

What's with the rest of you? At least Kopaka 'promised' to send in...

BTW, my own best time was 49:88. Under 50s, woohoo!

*still disappointed* :(

Also I don't really understand the new rules, do you all self decide where to put the start ??

Yes, that's the whole point! The goal is to find the best start position and finish the level as fast as possible from there.

BTW, results (if you can call it that) will be up tonight (CET). I'll put up my own rec too.

I tried your comp a bit. But i didnt send in cos I didnt have much time to play and didnt want to send in a sux time.

I think you should keep each event up. So that it just would be like normal externals where you can send in if you beat the record, much bigger chance of getting some action in the competition then.

Quite nice ideas this with "two rounds"! But should the first round be just about finding a cool start, or should it be to find the fastest route also and then try to improve it even more in the second round?

Finding your own startpos. and finishing as fast as possible is the best option. Just finding startpos. (which might not even be the fastest, but the one the maker of the level chose) is too boring.

It amazes me that when you changed he rules of the contest it got more interesting, but I was the only one who sent in. :?
