I hate that "instrumental" is somehow special. As if music should include singing by default, watefak.

6/10. Nothing really special, not specially catchy or anything sick but I still kind of liked it a bit. :)

some more power metal, although the neo-classical melodies might give too much malmsteen vibes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_c5zmcas_4

Pirates cover
Was going really well until 1.12 when the terrible guitar came in, followed by a bass overpowering one of the best melodies ever written. 10/10 down to 6/10 right there.

1.55 or so, it gets back to being good again (although the vocalists could be a bit louder). Trumpet great.

2.07 -> You cannot replace the horns/trombones with guitar/bass in this theme, it DOES NOT work. The raw sound of a bass trombone is far too unique. 2.13 the violins are out of time. 2.28 -> i can hear female vocals, should be brought out more.

2.36 -> Sounds pretty metal, except for the fact that they play it SLOWER than the actual theme. Again trombone's normally do better here but this bit doesn't sound too bad. Excited for the chaotic bit coming up :)

2.52 -> Chaotic bit, sounds 999x better when played at the correct tempo. Good backing by the orchestra but the effect is pretty ruined by the guitar playing out of rhythm.

3.12 -> This bit, again, is better with no guitar. Usually sounds awesome. This one sounds meh.

3.22 -> Good, strings playing out a bit and aren't so overpowered.

3.27 -> FINALLY A FUCKING TROMBONE PLAYS. Did note that at the very start of this little theme, a vocalist didn't cut off in time from the last one :P

3.45 -> I can't hear the violin's ascending semiquavers here. At 3.54 you hear them in parts but it's as if they are only playing certain bits of them.

3.58 -> Trombone/Horn/Tuba should be louder here. Not too bad though.

4.00 -> Trumpet fanfare turns into a normal melody with this ridiculous guitar.

4.29 -> Good. Great playing by the flute/horns.

4.45 or so -> This actually works with the drums/bass/guitar. Guitar works because it's doing sustain chords not rhythmic shit.

5.11 -> Good.

5.16 -> Guitar ruins this entry here, but is a little more reserved in the "He's a pirate" theme, so isn't too bad.

5.28 -> Violins too quiet.

5.41 -> Horn fluffs this bit :D

end -> Rhythm guitar used to do the semiquavers i mentioned earlier (3.45) but doesn't work that well, okay end though. A trumpet sustain goes a bit awry in the very end phrase.

Overall: was a 8/10 performance by the orchestra, but the rhythmic guitar ruins the piece SO badly, just by being turned up about 20dB too high. If it was the same volume as the bass, it would have been an 8/10. Instead, i give this performance a 5/10! :P

I have seen PotC performed so often over the past few years that you get to know the little niches of it.

Anyway, here's mine, also PotC: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzGgX1DihPw

I'd dance to it in a club, but it's rather boring. Reminds me of one night when I anticipated for good loud music and all they had was very boring techno - at least not my taste. The synthesizer in this track really gets on my nerves. The break at 3:40 is really bad. Totally unoriginal. 3.5/10[/b

Paul Elstak - Your Mother Sucks Cocks in Hell - I listen to this while jogging, because it always makes me run at close to 14 km/h, which is about 2 too fast for my middle distance(16 km) tempo, but lovely when doing a bit more speedy training. My fellow musicologists always look in disgust when I play this number. :wink2:

Listening with critical mindset, got to chorus and just spontaneously laughing. Teh vocalist is awful for my tastes at least, very pitchy and goes off key when he reaches the end of a phrase. Guitar work is pretty consistently good throughout the piece. It sounds very like they are trying to copy metallica's stuff with less complex drums, less guitar strumming and a different vocal style. 6/10 though, if only because the guitarist is good.
