Ugh, I'm willing to pay for a browser extension that hides posts about it from social media. Getting quite tired of this media virus.

"so many people are panicking over the coronavirus [and not this]" because even neglecting the death rate, 162/195 countries is a significantly larger dpreading area than west africa
rip to this virus havers tho
might have misunderstood the goals of this pic/post sry
Re: Corona Virus: will we all die?
unless the virus mutates into a stronger and more deadly form, which it has been reported having done before
Re: Corona Virus: will we all die?
china did a total shutdown of the Hubie province of 58M people, when they had 440 cases and 17 dead (decision made 21/1, valid from 22/1)
based on the data (integrating "new" cases backwards based on the distribution of time of showing symptoms), this really stopped the virus, but despite that it led to 80k cases and 3.2k dead (so far)
comparable restrictions, but still weaker, have been made by european countries of similar size, when the total number of cases was in thousands and dead in hundreds
so my guess is that in 2 weeks the health system in several countries (italy, spain, france, england, possibly switzerland, germany, maybe many more) will collapse, deathrate raises to 10% and there will be hundreds of thousands dead everywhere

<Pawq> at a gym you have only 3 options: 1. have your eyes closed, 2. stare at yourself, 3. stare at others, all of which are either super boring or disgusting
Re: Corona Virus: will we all die?
I think a couple of thousands will die but hundreds of millions will suffer from stress caused by the panic, and the total human lifespan reduced by that stress will be much higher compared to the deaths. The main danger here isn't getting sick but letting the virus damage your mental wellbeing.
Re: Corona Virus: will we all die?
the italy health system can barely hold on, they announced somewhere that there is very not place in hospitals anymore in lombardy
deathrate that was previously just 3% reached an oscillative 4% yday so yes thats very possible
not only the thousands dead everywhere, but also the projected downfall of the economy in multiple countries (even ro as far as i've heard pros speak) will prolly follow
hopefully china and south korea actions that have restricted covid2019 in the respective actions and china's voluntary help offering to other countries will help keep this sutiation somewhat under control (but i doubt it will be fully managed)
Re: Corona Virus: will we all die?
mental stress from dead relatives would be much higher than from some virus infokuchitsu wrote: ↑18 Mar 2020, 08:58 I think a couple of thousands will die but hundreds of millions will suffer from stress caused by the panic, and the total human lifespan reduced by that stress will be much higher compared to the deaths. if nobody does anything, it could easily end up with 200M dead

Re: Corona Virus: will we all die?
Too overhyped by the media. Lots of people don't even have any symptoms so they don't get tested, most people who have symptoms don't get tested because they are just recommended to stay at home, so the actual mortality rate is probably WAY under 1%, similar to the flu. But yeah, give it a scary name, call it "deadly" in every headline and play some scary music every time you mention it on TV over and over again and sheeple will all go and trample each other to death while trying to buy toilet paper for 100 years ahead.
Well, at least they've finally shut up about Brexit.

Well, you two have just proven that you have absolutely no clue about what's going on. Read the entirety of this article, then it may be worth conversing with you about this.

"Sophisticated modelling of the outbreak suggests that China had 114,325 cases by the end of February 2020, a figure that would have been 67 times higher without interventions such as early detection, isolation of the infected, and travel restrictions." (This would comfortably result in six digit deaths)
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/ ... as-changed
"the mitigation strategy, as they called it – or scenario 1 – that the government had just announced would lead to 260,000 deaths." (This is for the UK alone)
Plus about a million articles and analyses that show why the scale and danger from this pandemic is worse than anything in the last few decades. If nobody did anything, it could easily result in millions of deaths. By introducing very severe measures, we can perhaps limit it to tens of thousands.
Even trump and fox news by now admitted that it's a worldwide crisis, so congratulations guys, you're even slower than those retards.
edit:
Re: similar mortality rate to flu:
Now multiply these numbers by the prevalence of flu in the world, because that's what we could get with no travel restrictions and isolations with how fast this virus spreads.
edit 2:
Of course all this doesn't mean that we should panic. But it does mean that underestimating or dismissing this issue may result in immeasurable losses, and not just financial. If you think the financial impact is bad now, imagine what it would be if the virus spread to 90% of the world, and killed up to millions.

Glad you agree, because that was my point. Nobody said this issue should be dismissed.
The figures might look scary, but you know what, about 150,000 people die every single day, that's over a million dead people every week. That's life. Think about it.

Re: Corona Virus: will we all die?
nowadays the number of people in Lombardy that die a day because of coronavirus (i think it was 313 yesterday) is higher than the normal number of deaths per day (around 280) for any other reason
add to the problem that 20% of ppl need treatment and hospitals are full
anyway, I'm quite sure european restrictions will not be sufficient and we will see this everywhere

Re: Corona Virus: will we all die?
The death rate is not mega high indeed, but imo many ppl are forgetting that for every death there is going to be several crippled survivors with fuked lungs or other health problems, and they are going to need extra support from society for rest of their lives. Norm influenza does not cause this kind of stuff.
This virus is so mega ez spread that seriously nearly everyone are going to get it if life continues normally. Even if 50+% are not really affected, many are, which leads to total chaos in the health care system, as happened in north Italy. Spanish flu did not have very sik death rates itself either, the death toll was still as high as 100 million bc many people (who would have ez survived in a good hospital environment) died because of starvation/dehydration/other infections when the health care system was collapsing.
This is spreading much more freely in some other countries than EU ones atm. In some weeks or at least months we will which countries have had the best approaches, and whether or not some countries have overreacted.

CHINA Nov, 2002: After its experience with the SARS outbreak in Guangdong Province in 2002, China implemented a rapid response protocol for infectious diseases. The protocol empowered the Health Ministry to assemble professional and managerial help from across the country, established an emergency response coordinating team, prepared funding and authorization for supplies, equipment and emergency health care facilities, anticipating that existing hospitals would be overwhelmed.
USA April, 2004: Patent Application
USA Nov, 2006: Patent SARS coronavirus. Abstract: An outbreak of a virulent respiratory virus, now known as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), was identified in Hong Kong, China and a growing number of countries around the world in 2003. The invention relates to nucleic acids and proteins from the SARS coronavirus. These nucleic acids and proteins can be used in the preparation and manufacture of vaccine formulations, diagnostic reagents, kits, etc. The invention also provides methods for treating SARS by administering small molecule antiviral compounds, as well as methods of identifying potent small molecules for the treatment of SARS.
USA Sep 2008: Though the first cases of H1N1 swine flu were reported in California and Texas in late March, 2009, subsequent genetic analysis suggests that it began six months before it was first detected, in September, 2008, at the start of the ‘flu season. The CDC admits, below, that earlier Covid-19 cases went undetected, too
USA & NETHERLANDS Dec 2011 Researchers studying a potentially more lethal, airborne version of bird flu have suspended their studies because of concerns the mutant virus they have created could be used as a devastating form of bioterrorism or accidentally escape the lab.
TWO YEAR GAP

USA Sep 2019: Recently (2020), a team of Chinese researchers claimed to demonstrate that Covid-19 was born in September, 2019. The British researchers who had discovered the earlier H1N1 date are not convinced.
USA Oct 18, 2019: The Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security in partnership with the World Economic Forum and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation hosted Event 201, a high-level pandemic exercise on October 18, 2019, in New York, NY. Event 201 simulated an "outbreak of a novel zoonotic coronavirus transmitted from bats to pigs to people that eventually becomes efficiently transmissible from person to person, leading to a severe pandemic that leaves 65 million dead.

Zheng Zaosong, of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, confessed to taking material from a lab in Boston. FBI Special Agent Kara Spice found 21 wrapped vials containing a “brown liquid” that appeared to be “biological material” (samples of post-mortem lung tissue look like ‘brown liquid’). Zheng’s roommate, also a researcher, told FBI agents that two labmates of Zheng had succeeded in getting specimens to China. China, presumably, now went on high alert.
USA/CHINA Dec 2019: Chinese researchers in the USA informed China’s Health Ministry of a novel Coronavirus outbreak there, triggering a readiness alert nationwide. By comparison, seasonal flu generally kills far fewer than 1% of those infected." This was patently false. The coronavirus mortality rate reported by the media as stated by Dr. Ghebreyesus is completely inaccurate as all subsequent numbers show. Answer: “The first known patients in the U.S. contracted the virus while traveling in other countries or after exposure to someone who had been to China or one of the other affected areas. But now, a few cases here cannot be traced to these risk factors. This is concerning because it suggests the illness may be spreading across communities for which the source of infection is unknown, which we call community spread/transmission. Dr. Emily Landon, spokesperson, U Chicago School of Medicine. President Trump signed an $8.3 billion bill to fight the coronavirus outbreak. The bill provides $7.76 billion to federal, state, & local agencies to combat the coronavirus and authorizes an additional $500 million in waivers for Medicare telehealth restrictions

Re: Corona Virus: will we all die?
Here a lot of people are moving to working/studying online and big events are all cancelled, but for me nothing really changed since I already work from home. I'm still able to buy all groceries and stuff that I want, to take walks in the park where I breathe fresh air and feed ducks and look at squirrels, to go to cinema and restaurants, to meet friends (just like me, most of them are pretty chill about the whole situation), etc. The streets are emptier I guess, which I'm actually enjoying a lot: I get the convenience of living in the capital city without the annoyance of crowded trains and shit. I think people are also generally nicer right now: there is this feeling of going through the rough times together and supporting each other. Personally, I try to wear colorful clothes and to smile as much as possible in an attempt to make the atmosphere more pleasant for others.

This vaccine had unexpected effects and in some cases did the opposite of what was intended. The strain escaped into a population and further mutated. Indeed it was carried to China by US soldiers. China soon knew the type and origin and launched a massive campaign to control the situation. This was seen by Western powers as a good model to follow with additional add-on factors. In the meantime further mutations have occurred, some engineered via STO forces by virtue of the virus taking hold in certain persons whose spiritual force was able to direct the progression. At this point, there are two major strains. The elite need to stop the spread of that which they "created".

Can someone pls ban this Marcin dude? What he is doing here is punishable by prison in my country, and several others.
Re: Corona Virus: will we all die?
I was very tempted to say that, but don't think it's worth the potential shitstorm. I hope most people here can just ignore his bullshit.

Yes, same here, they closed all restaurants, cafes, mcdonalds, malls, big shops, supermarkets, barbershops, swimming pools, parks and other public places. If one would appear in public place without mask will be imposed $23 penalty for 1st time, 2nd — $70. Most work places were closed, people taking 40% of their regular salary for doing nothing. People dont go outside, stay at homes. Also noone can enter/quit the city, and railway stations and airport dont work. It is very weird to see empty streets of 2kk city, lol. Picrelatedgimp wrote: ↑21 Mar 2020, 01:11 I live in California (USA). Today our governor ordered everyone whose job is non-essential to start staying home and quarantining. So streets are quite dead, all bars and restaurants closed. What are your respective countries doing right now? How has your life been impacted?
Re: Corona Virus: will we all die?
1. corona virus is real and has a potential to kill millions, if nothing is done
2. governments will use this situation to impose new laws and rules to get better control

Re: Corona Virus: will we all die?
The effects of the pandemic might last for years. Global economy will tank and the recovery might be painful process. Even the isolation might be difficult to sustain in a long run. Some say we might need 1 year of such? Companies might start to bankrupt en masse, people will be laid off. If people are not paid, what are they going to do? Patiently sit at home without money for living? We are in big trouble unless we can quickly stop the virus from spreading.

Re: Corona Virus: will we all die?
World economy does not look like good indeed in the big scale. And tourism will not be the same until the last corona patient has been recovered, which will take a long time, perhaps years. Perhaps the opening of borders will happen very slowly, and only between countries who have completely got rid of corona, keeping entries from corona countries banned.
Re: Corona Virus: will we all die?
Why would it take years? They will develop a cure and vaccine soon. In one year's time everybody will have long forgotten about this stupid coronavirus.
Re: Corona Virus: will we all die?
Same here in the UK, but they don't really enforce it, so streets are not so dead here. People just ignore it and pretend they are not worried. Then they go and panic-buy all the toilet paper and pasta and stuff.
Re: Corona Virus: will we all die?
At what point does the negative impact on the economy outweigh the negative impact the corona virus can do biologically to the human race?
Will you support isolation if your water shuts off? If your life savings fall 75% in the stock market? If crime increases and looting begins? If your best friends' dream small business fails?
The list of economic issues is endless, and indirectly will cause lives lost as well, perhaps more than the real death rate of the corona virus.
I recognize my country may be more fragile to this sort of pandemic, and afraid may even be more violent in its' reaction. I am wondering what the lesser of two evils is. The numbers suggest we go back to work and just be as sanitary as we can. some people have lost water in my neighborhood today.

Your country is more susceptible because the government doesn't give a flying fuck about protecting the bulk of its population. The goal is not to lock down permanently and starve to death, but to lock down as early and decisively as possible, contain the outbreak quickly with minimised losses, then go back to normal and work to recover the financial losses while enjoying the company of the loved ones that are still alive.
And the "numbers"? They suggest that if we go back to normal, millions would die worldwide, and that would have gigantic financial ramifications too. And being "sanitary" wouldn't change this one bit.
Can start asking such questions after we've been in lock down for half a year or sth and it's still not slowed down, but if all govts acted quickly and together, that wouldn't be possible. Sadly, with retard governments like in the US or in Brazil, it might just get to that.
If you don't believe how effectively this (and any) virus can be contained, then do some research...

Re: Corona Virus: will we all die?
I guess the genie is out of the bottle now, so it's going to be interesting.
About those economical reasons not to do anything: it's not that 5% die and the rest is just fine. Even people in the best shape are not able to work for a month, so having lockdown for a month is clearly better. However, now it's too late, it could have been done properly early, now it will be all fucked.

I totally agree with milagros on all points on this topic.
Chance to do a proper response has passed. Australia and the USA have fucked their responses up quite severely. Will be yucky to see the results.

Re: Corona Virus: will we all die?
We should remember the death rate is not 5%, that may be the rate of those who have been tested, but we do not know the actual death rate, nor how many people have it in every country. The stats are dependent on available testing.

Re: Corona Virus: will we all die?
there are probably millions of cases, most are not tested
Re: Corona Virus: will we all die?
probably
ro just bought about 200k tests and considers it a breakthrough
(ro has ~20mil people)
