Tour-de-france topic!

Post by Squip »

Wiii today its starts!!!

So what are your thoughts about this years tour? Will armstrong make it or not!?

One of the 3 swedish guys competing has trained specially for todays tempo stage in an attempt to capture the yellow jersey and if so just for a day or two. Dont think he will make it, will be intresting to see though.

EUROSPORT swedish comentary team is THE BEST, so if you never watch cycling before give it a change.

Don't comment then.

Of teh course I'm going to watch TEH bicycle event of the year. Not all events though, but especially the end, the climbs, and the time compos.

And we all know who's gonna win too, but that doesn't make it less fun.

i agree tj

zworqy, lukazz: you aren't adding anything to the topic. if you don't like cycling, then get the fuck out.

its not shown much on tv where i live (along with any cycling really) so wont follow much..dont have much confidence in armstrong though.

Haeh, punch there.

But why don't you think Armstrong can be almost sure to win?
I mean every year there are guys wo don't feel like Armstrong's going to win, last year too.
BUt maybe you've seen last year too, the event where Basso was leading the game, and where it seemed so damn sure he could win it. Then there was like 200-300 metres left for the finish, and suddenly armstrong pulled out some of his "where-did-it-came-from?" power and got first.

Basso was still a very new guy then, but not an amateur, come on.
So I still have faith in armstrong's 7th victory.

basically, i know close to nothing about cycling...i'd just read zworqy's post in other topic, and i saw the opportunity, but then i had to contribute to topic in some way

however, i stand by my earlier statement, based purely on my powerful future-predicting skills.

Indeed. It has been for ages like that, maybe 50 years that when the climb stages begin, the standings totally change. Armstrong will win, but not with too many minutes, like he does it his way.

The whole story is changed a bit. Quite a sad thing to happen, it seems CSC could win this event, but the fall wasn't helpful for this. Also pity that Zabriskie didn't fell, if he had to fall, between 1 km from the finish, then it wouldn't have made a difference for the standings.

I sincerely hope Armstrong loses the lead for some time, before he takes it back again, would be a little more exciting.

Exactly that was Ky talking about. Zabriskie wouldn't last in the top10 in the final standings he meant. Eventhough he hadn't fallen he wouldn't had.

I guess some bigger shot will try to take the yellow, maybe Vinokoerov, anyway, there seems little chance that they'll make it in the end. Armstrong has power in climbing, more than the most cyclers there, and the by the time that people start getting their offence with a good descent, Armstrong will have made a headlong of something like one minute, in total enough to win the Tour.

That's how it went, that's how it will go, and that's how it had been happening, had Armstrong participating next year too.

Yes, was cool to see. Nice that Armstrong let Voigt take it, he deserved it. Althought the commentators mentioned about Rasmussen's mania of lowering weight has taken serious proportions, for example shaving hair and stuff, a little too much, it was still fun to hear.

Pity for the guy who fell, and also pity that Zabriskie couldn't go on.

\o/\o/ not counting jacob piils win in 2003, the last time we actually won shit was in 96, and people should know what happened back then

and yep rasmussen is MAX mr. detail. on tv they told how the staff from his old team often got max pissed at him when he for instance would ask them to change the saddle 1mm 4-5 times a day. basso will win the next stage in a break together with vino 8)

NOT boring

Post by alietje »

Nice topic, I watch Tour de France almost every day, It is NOT boring. I cycle myself but I'm not so CRAZY fast. Those boys can do hundreds of kms with an average of about 40 km/h!! I just have much respect for them, afterwards they're almost dead :S
I think it will be Tour De Lance again. It's the last year he's cycling. Next year I want Ullrich to win :)

Pieter WEENING from HOLLAND is a hero too! He takes part in the tour for the first time and he just finished first in a race!

I hate everyone who thinks the tour is boring!!!!!

Play elma! What else?

It's boring on the rest day, but tomorrow (Well todays) stage will see them enter the serious mountains in the Alps. I think it will be a stage that will really sort them out and give us and idea of how everyone is feeling. It should be real exciting to watch.

I think it's a mountain top finish as well...Or is that on Wednesday?

Heh, didn't realise that yet.

And ofcourse the noobs that are watching expect a weak Armstrong and such, since he "lost the yellow, so he must be too weak to obtain it".
What a coicidence that Voigt is a not so good climber.

What about Vinokourov taking some lead, that'll be fun, when Armstong falls, and he takes the lead. But sadly everyone will slow down then.

I don't know yet I'm going to reserve judgement on Armstrong untill after today, I think he'll be strong and I think he will win. But everyone thought the same about Indurain back in 1996 when he went for his 6th win in a row. But as soon as they hit the first major mountain he died, and Bjarne Riis went on to win the tour.....biarne riis is now the director at CSC, so if Armstrong is weak I feel he'll know how to exploit it the best giving Basso a good chance. But that is a very big if :p.

Going into the tour I thought Armstrong might have wanted to be in yellow from start to finish, as it hasn't been done since sometime in the 1930's(34?) But he didn't manage it so I think he's just resting until they hit the big mountains.
Today is going to be very exciting I feel.

Well...Hmm yes, that was an intresting day. Slowly watching each of Armstrongs rivals drop off the back.
Although he didn't manage to win the stage, and he certainly didn't gift it to v.....(sp?) like he's been known to do in the past.
Barring major incident I think of todays preformance he should have it in the bag.
I can't see rasmussen staying this strong all the way through the tour, mancebo looked like he was struggling, and he can't time trial very well.

I suppose if Basso just had a bad day he might still be in touching distance, but everyone else I think has had it. But still you new quite know what will happen in bike racing so I shall continue to watch.

Hah, today's race was like funny as hell. I was kinda surprised by the big cap that was created, must've been a really slow peloton, or whatever you call it. 'Extremely' entertaining was the endphase. The last 2 guys zig zagging on the road, when 2 guys reunite with them, then begins a nice game of bluffing and one guy manages to escape. At that point I thought he had won already. But it seemed useless, the sprinter and the discovery guy came back. Then Hinault seemed to win, but suddenly he was fatigued completely :P . Then there was another sprint, successed by the discovery channel guy.

Nice!

Yeah, it was plain obvious. I must say that the tactics were a bit different this year, like there was put more effort in. But I guess we will never see 20 minutes escapes from Armstrong in the mountains, that just isn't his way to win.

It's becoming exciting now for Rasmussen, while he has to stay in the 3rd place. Ulrich is a much better time attacker than Rasmussen, and with a difference of 2:12 (?), it's, believe it or not, quite dangerous for Rasmussen. Today's race won't help him much, so it all depends on tomorrow.
