i used to do that when i was a total noob against better players in order to motivate myself to get better times. and against jamppa, i don't do that anymore cuz i reached my goal (39 tt) and focus more on getting good times then dropping tt

Something like internal TT is a good motivator to gain skills... I think? For me at least it was and is the main source for gaining skillz; especially precision (gas, basic volts, maintaining speed etc), learning how gas, turn and brake affects bike while in air and most of basic tricks and maybe m...
