elma license plates

Post by iCS » 28 Jul 2020, 08:11

Photos of license plates with (partial or full) kuski nicks or that remind of Elma in some way (I've already shared some of these on discord):

https://photos.app.goo.gl/mXgJgneESkMHp27T9
(google photos because didn't want to spam here)

I've been photographing such plates casually since I joined EOL (2016), and now decided to collect them. It wasn't hard to do, i searched for "license plate" in my google albums. In the results i even found some older random photos with interesting plates.

These are pretty awesome! I see lots of Hungarian plates, does the game have a cult following there or is their license plate format just more likely to result in Elma references?

Elma is originally from Hungary but the scene there is not so active nowadays. These plates being from Hungary is probably because iCS has taken (most of) the photos himself?

Okay, thanks for the explanation, I didn't know whether these pictures had been taken by one person or gathered by online communities, it makes sense now.

In Czech rep we used to have similar (N)umber/(L)etter format on licence plates to Hungarymans - LLL NNNN. Which is great for making short words. But since 2001 it is NLN NNNN, which is axxualy impsy bad.

Only some EU countries have suitable licence plate formats, so bad luck for other mans if they wanted to start hunting for elma-related stuff.

Yeah, I was pretty disappointed to learn that in Russia it's LNNNLL NNN. So you kinda can have three letter combos but they are separated by numbers, which doesn't look as good. Oh, and the letters are Russian, so there is even less chance of amusing occurrences. I'll keep looking though. :)

in poland most cars have LL NNNNN, and around here 95% of cars start with W, so also very limited possibilities :'(

yes, I spent the whole journey to work and back looking

Yes I'm cult following the game :D (and I'm Hungarian)
Also good format, although current new cars come with first letter S, so still have to wait a couple years for plates like TEJ or ZWQ (unless some lucky custom plate).

not really pawq, first letter depends on region where you registered car. in poznan all start with P, wroclaw D.

2 digit ones belong to bigger cities, 3 digit are for villages. i assume you live in warsaw already (welcome btw) so thats why you only see 2digit Wx :D

not gonna lie, makes me wanna check out for elmic phrases too whenever i see plates. but totally dont feel like theres nearly as many of them :s

Yeah, that's what I meant by "around here" :-)

Also thanks! I actually just now realised that we could actually meet up pretty much any weekend! Gotta do some mini-PEM :D

Normally I'd say it must be a coincidence, but the fact that it's from Finland puts me in two minds :o
