Elma content

Post by Igge »

As we all know, the community and online presence of elma is slowly getting smaller by the day, though I don't think this is due to to the game itself. Elma still holds up whether you're a noob or pro, and the game being on Steam makes it more accessible than ever! I honestly think the problem nowadays is that people simply don't know the game exists.

In the last year I have found myself watching elma on twitch on the very rare occasions that someone was actually streaming it (Zamppe, Bjenn, POC, etc), but the problem is that it's just really rare that there's even a single person doing so. I think to get more people into elma we need to stream more, upload more videos, spread the word more, etc. I know self-advertising has never been the strong suite of any of us, but I think we have to start working a bit if we want to bring the game back to life.

I recently tried streaming myself, and I was surprised to almost immediately see people pop up in chat who had never played the game before, or who had a long time ago but weren't active anymore. I think if we all put in some effort to create content, whether it's streams, youtube vids, reddit posts, panel-type content we could maybe get the word out to people that the game exists and is just a download away on steam!

There are so many games that have had a slump or never been popular, that got a huge surge of new players because they rose on twitch and youtube. Hell, even amongus was dead for some years before the 2020 spike, and it has even worse graphics than elma! I know some of you are already doing a lot, but every interaction from every person helps, whether it's a like on a youtube vid or some chatting on a stream. We need to show the world that there is this amazing game that has a solid community and that they are wanted in it :)

Is there a collection anywhere of all elma youtube channels and twitch streams? I'd love to go through such a list and subscribe to/follow every channel on such a list, and like all the videos just to help boost visibility a little, and I'm sure others would to.

Anyway, if you want the game to survive, maybe a like and subscribe is not such a terrible thing)

*Update:
Added some streams below; if you want your stream added or see a stream that is missing, please let me know :)

Check the 'YouTube Channels' tab at the bottom. All have at least one Elma video on their channels.

Sick! I remembered your list of videos, but hadn't seen the excel. Very neat.

Would it be possible to add streams as well?
At least for me it would be nice to be able to follow all elma streamers, so I can get a notification whenever someone streams. If nothing else just to join and spy for a little while :)

Hmm, first few viewers is usually the hardest as i get it.

Also depends on the time maybe. If your stream finished around 16:30 CET, it's usually right before people in Europe come home from work, so that might also explain it. Though I'm still just a week or two in myself, so I don't really know anything about the whole streaming world.

So far my peaks on week days are usually around 19-22 CET or so, also when there are peak battles on EOL.
Also weekend so far had more viewers than week days.

If you link your stream here I can go and follow, and maybe catch you next time you go live)

I'll also update the OP here with all elma streams I know, and then maybe we can find somewhere to put it a bit more publicly so people can find it.

really hard to get the first viewers, gets easier the more you have them as mans said.

also, if you want to grow the stream its a really tough job at first when nobody really interacts but you should try to be interesting enough for people to start talking and at some point building a cummunity of your own

if you don't enjoy streaming, i dont recommend trying to grow the stream or anything like that. do it if you enjoy it or do it for some other purpose like recording gameplay or whatever

it took 2 hours and tt was 49 something, went for some basic 15 years old styles. most struggles were zigzag, jaws and curvaceous i believe. there's no recording available because i was listening to music and it got muted for copyright reasons.

i tried streaming elma some 2 years ago and got no viewers at all. the problem is likely my timezone. my tactic here was to try bringing something new and interesting to the table by attempting to beat all internal levels using my blackout lgr. i had just beat internal 46 when my computer stopped working and i stopped streaming altogether. maybe we could try to think of some more creative way to stream elma while still being noob friendly content (ez for the viewer to understand what they're looking at), but i don't know if that would actually make a difference in viewership.

edit: speaking of 'new and interesting', i'm reminded of this video where two noobs design and record a new competitive style of play. even though these guys aren't great at the game, it makes for a very entertaining video. imo, elma needs mod capabilities now more than ever before.

Nice Labs, added to list :)

@Lee, I agree with your sentiment that we need more "stream for youtube" content, meaning some special scenarios that make for fun videos. Since twitch doesn't really promote small streams, this is a common tactic nowadays - to make the streams about a certain concept that makes for a good youtube video that has bigger potential to rise.

I have some ideas for how to make such youtube content, but it takes a lot of time to do setup + stream + editing etc, so the more people that do the better. :)
