[program] Lgr-loader beta

Post by exe-cuter »

Final version has been reached
Hi,I worked a long time on the program now,and a lot of code has been changed and improved. The program has reached the status I can call 1.0
This doesn't mean there aren't any bugs in there, but none I know if at least. For the full explanation, read below :

I was searching on moposite and the net for a program that could easily let me select the .lgr I wanted to play.I returned with zero results.

So I wrote my own one ! :D

Image

The functions of the program are :
-You select the lgr you want and elma starts with the desired texturefile
-To delete the lgr's you dont need anymore
-Renaming of lgr's

How it works :
-When you start the program,it copys "Default.lgr" to "lgrbackup.bak"
-It removes the possible read-only from "Default.lgr"
-It copys the selected lgr to "Default.lgr"
-It runs Elma (if you choose to)
-When closing,it restores "lgrbackup.bak" back to "Default.lgr"

DOWNLOAD V1.0
(Make sure you place the included "Default.bak" in you lgr folder,if it isn't done automaticly.Otherwise the "Restore lgr" function won't work)
Some people could get a DLL-error,wich mean they miss the vb6.0 runtime files.I'm creating an installation for Lgrloader, wich will include these files

Older news
Update 1 : beta 0.5 is available See replys below for more info
Download here

Older news
THIS IS ONLY A BETA :
-Sometimes the lgr just isn't copied, but when you try again,it works
-There could be some problems with read-only and illegal filenames (not sure)
-When you have the windows colors on <=24bit colors, the pictures-background is darker than the rest of the program
-Only seems to work on win2000/xp , cause I'm using good old dos-commands (yes,win2000 still supports dos-commands  )

How to run it :
-extract the .exe to your elma folder (the folder were elma.exe is in)
-make sure you have some custom .lgr's in you LGR folder
-run it,select the lgr and press "start"

Download it here

I'm looking for betatesters + people who want to see more functions

That's all folks

This looks absolutely brilliant. Much better than that levmaker that needs dll files and shit.

On the first time using it the program closed when I clicked Start Game.
Sometimes when you click the reduce button it closes instead.

-Did it give an error or something ?
-Is your Default.lgr overwriten with another one ?

Your GUI is pretty hard on the eyes. I think you should change it to normal Windows standards or whatever it's called.

Serious ? 8O 8O 8O
I can add a normal GUI in a later version, but now it would only be a waste of time

At least tone down the colors a bit, now it looks a bit like a Nuke program or something like that.

Really? Well I've made a "program" that could do that. (But actually it was originally a batch file and you could only choose lgrs from the built-in list)

But this program is better. About the colors, they are not so bad except for the background, it should be brighter.
<Fihlvein> another case of zworqy-is-always-right closed i guess
<yoosef> zworqy doesnt suck at anything

Update 1 :
Image
I've been wathing your replys and I changed these things (almost the whole code is different)

Updates :
-Changed some of the colors + it's now 256color-compatible 8)
-The window is now movable
-Removed some typos
-Code should be win98 compatible. The file-copy chould work now under win98 , but if default.lgr is read-only you chould get a nice message that tells you how to change that manually. But because I don't have a win98 system here,I couldn't test it.
-When you haven't changed Default.lgr,it doesnt ask you to restore it when you exit
-Optimised the code + error messages

Known bugs :
-Renaming is not yet finished
-Don't minimize the window, because it won't be visible in the taskbar (I'm working on that)
-No other known bugs, but hell if there aren't !

Download beta 0.5 here

Please let me know what you think of it,cause I really need to find these bugs ! Thanks

that's exactly what i have been thinking to do for a long time with dos batch files. The idea is same, though it's more user-friendly to have the same as a single program.

i wonder when someone will replace my startup folder batching system with some sort of a program..

Explain what you mean.

Sorry, this version didn't have that messagebox that warns you for these things. Now that I know it works with win98 too,I'm going to make version 1.0 , wich also includes the Default.lgr,so you never fuck up yours.

just saying, the way to use different lgrs is to rename the lgr to Default.lgr

but, anyway, that gets annoying so this program is great
also, i admire your enthusiasm, exe-cuter. this must have taken a lot of work
