Balázs interview

Post by Abula »

While cleaning my Elma folder I found this Balázs interview, questions by MUe. I thought you might want to see it too, not sure if it was published earlier somewhere. It's about two years old.

Interview with Balázs Rózsa, the creator of Elma

Hi Balázs!
Hi MUe!

You have created Elasto Mania, wich fanatized a lot of people, notwithstanding we don't know anything about you. How old are you?
34.

Where did you learn programming?
In the end of my high school I had a Sinclair ZX Spectrum. On this computer I programmed in BASIC. Later in faculty of electricity of the Technological University I learned other languages too.

Which language you programmed Elma?
C++

What do you do nowadays?
I am a programmer, I assists in building of www.index.hu website.

When, and how did you get the idea of Elasto Mania (Across)?
The idea came suddenly. I don't remember exatly when it was, (only that it was spring), but quite ago. I wanted to do some game and I was thinking, and suddenly I got this idea.

How much time did take to make Across and Elma?
I was making them for years, with shorter and longer interruptions.

How did the development happen? What was the hardest part, and what was the things you made to ready at first.
The first part was the motion of the bike. Making the graphics took the longest time, because I am not too good in this field.

Did you think of such a big success?
I hoped, but of course, I couldn't know in advance.

On which level you play Elma? Only like a programmer-tester, or sometimes also you lose the real world?
I like playing Elma, but I don't play it for good times. That's why I am amateur compared with some people.

Can we expect a new version ever?
I dunno, beside my job I don't have any time to develope the game, but who knows what the future brings.

Have you made any other game?
A few game in the TV. One of these was the Rex. They played it in the mornings quite ago.

What is the tendency of registrations?
They are quite good now. The tendency doesn't show decreasing, actually sometimes it increases.

Thats all, thanx, bye!
Bye!

Balazs does not like any kind of publicity, so I'm afraid we can get no pictures. The guy who knows Balazs I do not know very much, he is a friend of my girlfriend's sister. I will try to ask questions if i can... As I said in another thread here, the only way to elma development I see is to contact the guy, who wrote the BeOS port of Elasto Mania, he have the source, and maybe the motivation, too...

That sounds ok to me.
If somebody could get the source code,
who should develop the "new" game?
If was in charge, i would say to the development team:
Remember what makes Elma so fun, simplicity!
Do not make too many new features, though it
would be nice if there where a few new things.

Oh, a new Elma would just be so... Nice!
