Let's ask the veterans...

Post by The_BoneLESS »

Simple topic, if you have questions to ask to the "older" guys in the scene,

The guys with old time knowledge,

Here you go .

Who's the designer of the Gbg levels ?
( which can be downloaded here ==> http://www.mxb.dk/upload2/gbg.zip )

Is there a table of best times somewhere ?

If you have a nice pack of levs that doesn't have a record table you can always just upload them to the interactive record system at www.elastomania.dk

Ah, so who counts as a vet?
How long do you have to be in the scene for?

Could we get back to topic ???

For me, a veteran is a guy with at least 3 years of playing and who is well known trhough the scene...

For exemple : Abula, SveinR, Chux, ramone, Xhomaz, Darm, Cloud, Jalli, etc.... ( you know, great guys ! ) ( And if you know the answer and are new, you can answer too  )

Thanks (a load!), but theres no way Im a vet...yet...
I guess vets would have to be people who have been playing a long time (3 years sounds fair) and are still currently in the scene. I dont think that they would have to have a great tt or have WRs or be groundbreaking in any way, just have dedication to elma.

Fathergod omg? As if :). And pajen hasn't been playing for 2 years so he can't be really be called a veteran.

I guess I think of veterans those who were well known in the scene before I joined it. But if most think that way, well, we sure have a lot of em.

Well, I don't... to call someone veteran I think he has to be known of at least something, and I don't really know pretty much anything you have done during all these years.. ;) So I consider you as a guy who has played quite some time :)

if you read through boneless' initial post, you may want to pay extra attention to the part in bold font. The admins should delete all (exept my advertisement) post from this thread because they are all off topic.

If you google for gdg and elma you will find stuff that may be the list.
a pdf document from "Göteborgs Ungdoms Cup 2004" and some russian site where there's numbers on: http://my.gbg.bg/?p=6
If the list isn't one if these I would guess it never existed, the levs were made in 1999 according to the files and back in 1999 it was hard even getting free web space to put a recordtable on.

Oh, and petsen is a puny noob.

This topic has 2 good different "topics" in it ;X

1. A topic with questions of elma history where you may struggle finding the answer
2. Who and what is veteran

-My opinion, nowadays you are kind of veteran even if you started at this millenium, you could have played the game for 4 years. Wasn't Elastomania released february or march 2000 ? So this game is 4 1/4 years old.(18.7.2004) I guess there were at least 200 players before elastomania, and ~50(?) of them still plays the game. Across was released 96 or 97 and Jokke and some balles played the game for 7 yearz now or so ;X I would call anyone veteran who played elma from the year 2000 or so and has been visible in the scene and didn't just play offline :p

It was around 2001 or 2002 I think. I don't remember really how many of current people was there already back then besides me and Cloud.

Hmm, so how long do you have to have been in scene to be vet?
Maybe half of however long the game has been around? So from 96 (Across release) that means 2000 to be an Across vet and from 2000 (Elma release) that means 2002 to be Elma vet...
But that means Im an Elma vet, which Im not really...

i say elma veterans would/should be veterans if they learned the game playing "across" like played that before elma existed .. and still play elma today since then. if that makes sense

It seems that Cloud is such an old veteran that he's starting to have problems with his memory.

I don't know exactly when I first joined #battle but at least I was there during august 2002. Too bad I didn't take logs back then. Maybe someone has logs from that time. Those would be nice to see.

I'm not exactly sure about this but I think sny has been battling a bit longer than a year too.

I have been at #battle regularly since some time in september 2002, if i remember correctly. And in my opinion I've been playing battles there way too much, so kinda getting to be a veteran there, cos mostly it's newer guys who battle (of course there are guys like markku ;))

And btw I'm just on vacation in the states right now, so don't worry I haven't gotten a life yet and ditched #battle totally.

about the #battle ,hihih, at least I was first who joined there (in terms of across and elastomania) since I made the chan \o/ .. Wasn't too active first with me and elbono there only, maybe some else ...then with breinari and couple others. Then breinari took it over and banned me.. then I was banned for a year or so and the chan got new operators at some point when I was banned, and it's been in its new form since that (when I came back from army 2002)

Let's dig back this old topic i've made in my early years...

Is there an existing level pack named WW ? ( abbreviation or .lev file names ) because i'm going to kick out a new level pack soon and i don't want to use an already existing level pack name...

A question for genuine veterans...

Tor is viewed in high regard at present. Most would agree he's the best player. However, throughout the scene's history, there have been many 'Tor's. In my time at least, first there was DarMoeD, and then Zweq. Going back I know there's been plenty more such as pajen, dz, etc etc. But what I want to know is, were all these god-like players viewed as highly as TorInge is now? In other words, is Tor really the best of all time? Or is he simply the best of our time? Will he one day simply fade into the Hall of Fame and be dismissed as inferior to contemporary kuskis?

question wasn't to me I guess.... but imo Champi0N was number 1 for many years and consider him at least as high as t0r, but then again, I am not genuine player and I was much more active during the Champi0N period so cyan't say

I personally believe that no way TorInge would be number one in old Across or early Elma days when there weren't many new styles up and Champi0N, pajen, zyntifox and such were around...

Maybe it is that I answer your latest question (why we do not answer).
Such a complex question as "Has there been a lev-pack named WW...." is very hard to answer.
Since no one has objected it seems to be something new :) But I dare not say since nobody can possibly know about every single levpack created.. so we shut up instead...

About your latter question, I don't have the answer, I guess 8-ball's stupid post set the fire alive.. :S

No.

Wouldn't call myself a veteran either. Those who were in the scene in across days are veterans :)

Anyway, I don't know of any WW pack, though I'm not on my elma pc so I can't check.

Edit: Moposite defines veterans as kuskis who has been in the scene for 4 years, at least according to http://www.moposite.com/community_history.php
