Golden Apple Awards 2008

Post by SveinR »

It's again time to hold the ElastoMania community's very own annual awards show: The Golden Apple Awards.

Moposite GAA pages
GAA07

Jury
The jury this year consists of axxu, John, Kopaka, SveinR, zebra and zworqy.

Categories
Art is a completely new award for this GAA, details in the notes below.

- Internalist
- Externalist
- Battler
- Rookie
- Designer
- Team
- WR
- Style
- Replay
- Level
- Contest
- Contribution
- Achievement
- Site
- Art
- Community Award

Notes: In the Rookie category, the definition was changed last GAA: A Rookie is defined as someone who entered the scene in the GAA period.
In the Replay category, only replays that have been publically shared as actual .rec files will be eligible for this award. So even if your run is included in an Elma movie, it won't be eligible for the Replay award unless you have released the actual replay file.
In the Achievement category, the rules were changed in GAA06 so that one kuski only has one of the nomination spots, making it more similar to the Contribution category. However, you don't have to take this into consideration when submitting your initial nominations.
In the Site category, you don't necessarily vote for the site that is the "best site" overall, but rather the site that has improved the most, increased its relevancy the most, etc, over the past year.
In the Art category, any type of Elma-related art is eligible. This can include replay movies (such as EDQ, advertisement movies for cups, etc), real-life movies such as Elma Crime, images/artwork, music, and other types of art.
Community Award: This is an award decided entirely by the community. Those eligible to vote in the Third Step will vote for the people they think most deserve a special honour, be it for their helpfulness, kindness, contributions or simply for being a great player. The reason will be the individual voters' own decision. The idea is that the award will go to the kuski most appreciated by the community. There will be no set of candidates to vote over in this category, each voter decides himself. So the voting process for this category does not really start before the Third Step.

Voting rules
See 'Instructions of the voting process' below.

Date
January 18th, 18:00 EET (GMT+2).

Prizes
Possibly the same as in GAA04 if we get donations.
Was it cast for the mass who burn and toil?
Or for the vultures who thirst for blood and oil?

Instructions of the voting process

First step:
You can reply to this topic and tell your favourite candidates in the different categories. Please list clearly the category and then the suggestion(s). Note: You are not allowed to vote in the third step unless you give any suggestions (one is compulsory but more are recommended) in this step. Arguments are appreciated. Also, when it comes to categories such as Replay, Level, Style and Art, it would be of great help if you could provide attachments/links to the specific suggestions.

Deadline: Sunday 16 November, 23:59 EET

Second step:
The jury will choose ten candidates to each category. The jury members will choose the candidates according to their experience and knowledge (they will also be reading, and taking into consideration, the community's suggestions).

Tentative Deadline: 12 December

Third step:
Now we have the top10 for each category available. Now again the Elma community can vote. The criterias for being allowed to vote are: Well-known kuski (decided by the jury) and the kuski has posted some suggestions in the first step (so we see that he has been active during the whole process) OR you don't have to be well-known IF you posted a nice suggestion list with reasonable arguments. You don't have to vote in every category but if you do vote in some category you must pick your top5 and not just top1 or top3. So choose top5 or nothing, is the point.

Deadline: Friday 09 January, 23:59 EET

Fourth step:
The jury will collect the top5 for each category according absolutely to the community votes. The point system will be as follows: 5 points to every first position, 4 points to every second position etc.
This will be the top5 to be used in the final show.

Fifth step:
The different jury members will vote over the different categories, and the community will also give 2 votes to the candidate who got most points in the third step, and 1 vote to the candidate who got the second-most points. The different jury members' votes will not be public. In the event of a tie, the candidate who got most points from the community in the third step will win. If there still is a tie, the one who got most 5 points will win, then 4 points etc. If the winner cannot be resolved by this, the jury will come together and discuss the matter to declare a winner.

Note: For the Community Award the voting process will be different. Instructions on that will be presented when the Third Step starts.

The final show is held on IRCnet, channel #gaa.

Date and time: Sunday January 18th, 18:00 EET (GMT+2)
Was it cast for the mass who burn and toil?
Or for the vultures who thirst for blood and oil?

Igge and others, you don't have to write suggestions for the Community Award, as the jury has no say in that category. Unless you want to influence others to go with your choices, but that's a bit unfortunate.

Internalist
- Raven: Just off the top of my head
- Kazan: Just off the top of my head
- Zweq: He tries new, hard stuff and finds new stuff in many internals
- talli: Someone who has driven some pro times. Pulls off many nice tricks

Externalist
- axxu: As usual, he wins and plays many cups.
- BoneLESS: Has done a good job in MRII and on my nindex site and also for kopasite
- Memphis: Has done a good job in MRII.

Battler
- talli: A friendly fella, and also very skilled in battles.
- Ali: It's not unusual to enter belma and see Ali on the leader line ;)
- Markku: Do I need to motivate my choise?
- Smibu: Always winning with a good marginal if he's winning.
- jaytea: Good, as always.

Rookie
- Pab: Did a good job in MRII01B.lev (finished third), and seems to be good overall. Definately a good candidate!
- barryp: I don't know when he started, but he's relatively skilled today.
- pawq: He has some good times! Always talking about his improvements, and they aren't all that bad.
- Morgan: ? can he? I hear he has 39 TT :X

Designer
- Rasken: His battlelevs are very nice!
- devan: I've always loved his levs, though maybe he hasn't done so much this year
- Ramone: I love most of his levels. They are very original and special. I'd be disappointed if he wouldn't be in top 5 this year.
- jonsta: Always good levels! Original aswell.
- Zebra: well, because he's been so good for so many years I think it's time he did something very special now. But I still nominate him (come to think of it, he has done quite special things this year).
- talli/jp: He makes the world's most amazing levs. Or did at least, nowadays I'm lucky if I get to see a lev from him :(

Team
- EF
- EPO: Good progress in cups and on wrs.
- HHIT: Will most likely win my MRII cup.
- TAP: Still fresh, and still creating levpacks and contests!

Style
I don't know.

Replay
- Ali's 57,28 on MRII01B.lev: Very nice! He must have hoyled it a lot.
- Memphis' 44,04 on MRII04A.lev: Awesome, IMO he made the level ;).

Level
- Alu1036.lev by Rasken: Very fun lev to hoyl with many unexpected styles!
- OYLP07.lev By jonsta: Very, very nice candidate for this GAA.
- Ram303.lev by Ramone: One example of Ramones originality

- TEC: was it this year?

Contribution
- Milagros: has done many great things to satisfy us players!
- Zebra: Keep arranging contests of many kinds, and keep making great levels!
- Kopaka: Very nice job! Been really dedicated. After skint0r left us he just stepped right in and took control with the elma online site
- SveinR: For arranging all GAA: s. I think GAA is one of the best thing ever to happen in this scene.

Achievement
Really don't know.

Site
- http://www.kopasite.net / Kopasite by Kopaka: Definately worth mentioning. It has developed so much lately.
- Elma Online Site by Kopaka: Not done yet, but I think it could be worth a GAA still.

Art
- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wg2-WpP8 ... re=related Very cool!
- Bjorn's external movies. Download from here: http://ef.milleniumlist.info/ Nice replays, nice effects!

boneless those styles were 1½ years ago.

I've been thinking how to give credit to kopaka's work for the site for new belma version he's been doing. This must be the best moment and place for it. Sure milagros is doing the version itself, but he doesn't care much about GAA (remembering his last year interview). I'd like to nominate kopaka for contribution. Seriously this guy has been using probably at least a hundred of hours for the site :S (correct me if I'm wrong).

I just can not describe how thankful I'm for guys like mila and kopa. Praise the (b)elma lords o,o

http://elmaonline.moposite.com/ that's the site if somebody still hasn't seen it.

- Internalist:
Raven - Max times in Internals this year, especially last months. great to see another Legend becoming a frequent WR maker
Lukazz - had some idea in my head he was always only relatively skilled (like 39 mins club) so i was max impressed when he comes out with 37:59 (and STILL improving)
Kowal - pwnage Internal times constantly, incredibly nice guy.
Bjorn - (seems i'm voting lots of EF's in, hey?) that Serp WR is incredible, also amazing achievement under 38.
Kazan - Incredible times, seems to improve always, nice guy.
ProDigy - 4th player under 37 minutes, capable of much better aswell.

- Externalist
Lukazz - owning the OYLP tables at the moment
Adi - just an incredible Piper, look what he did to Pipo!
talli - a huge amount of incredible times, if was more active in the scene could be a legendary player with many more records all round.
Markku - skintatious domination.
Red - i know this vote's kinda interesting, but Red's recent comeback in OYLP was awesome, he made some pwnage times.

- Battler
Smibu - Incredible player, always competing for the win (constantly GETTING the win.)
ElrondMcBong - hoyla pwnage, sweet rides always.
talli - just always winning and completely pwning levels, also nice contribution with HIS levels aswell.
Markku - when he's online, he wins. it's that simple.
Zweq - when he's online, he wins. it's that simple.

- Rookie
Pawq - very quick TT progression, seems to have fitted into the scene nicely, well done :)
totem (in this GAA period.) - just some generally pwnage skills here and there.
Morgan (in this GAA period.) - absolutely pwnage. he's going for 38TT and been here for under a year.
roope - has some very nice times, pretty skilled guy.

- Designer
niN - amazing levs in MRII, also many nice levs throughout the year (nindex etc.)
talli - is, and has always been an amazing levelmaker.
Coc0k - some nice levels here and there.
MAWANE! - pumps out fun hoylas at rates of about 10per hour, and they STILL never seem rushed, obviously is a natural.

- Team
EF - an array of incredible players. out of 9 members, 4 of them are under 38mins TT, 7 of them under 40! (oh, and 4th into 36mins.)
EPO - an incredible start, also a nice array of players. has made quite the imprint on the WR table.
WNO - Internal Domination.
27 - Some nice internal times from nice players who make nice levels to put in nice cups.
xXx - 3rd Team into 36 mins club,

- WR
MR - Freefall 11:46 - never thought Bokhylle's time was beatable. amazing improvements.
Kazan - Spiral 44:42 - Phillip's legacy beaten after more than 100 tables, a nice time aswell.
Raven - Hangman 14:41 - once again, i thought zynti has maxed this level, awesome Rav.
Zweq - Loop-de-loop 17:61 - yet again, thought this lev was maxed, so did many others. pwnage Zweq, i know you hoyled this for a long time.
Bjorn - Serpents Tale 51:80 - just an incredible time.
Cap - Zig-Zag 55:91 - best WR in 08' imo.

- Style
Zweq's Steep Corner - i always knew this was possible, jsut had never managed to get the apple and still go fast, incredibly done Zweqqy.
Cap's Zig-Zag - haven't seen it actually done, but it MUST be incredible, and it's an incredible time as well.
sorry, dunno too many WR styles.

- Replay
Jarkko's Uphill Battle pack - an impressive collection of mega smooth runs, especially the 19:91.

- Level
i don't feel i'm legible to write in this category because i'm sure there were just far too many awesome battle levels i missed, with all the awesome designers in the scene i'm sure there's better than what i've played (though i WILL vote for MRII levels in general (null vote) because niN did well here.)
- Contest
OYLP - Awesome
MRII - Awesome
Dakar Internal Cup - great idea, but could have been way better.
TEC - think this was this year, awesome cup.
27 Cup - so far seems nice levs, we'll have to see :P

- Contribution
Kopaka - countless hours of work on Elma Online.
Tijsjoris - countless hours of posting on Lauta to keep us active (perhaps igge goes here too.)
Milagros - countless hours of work on belma.
John - countable but still many hours of work on reviving the News section at lauta and keeping us all updated with awesome interviews and nice propaganda.
X-Ratio - countless hours of being a retard for us to poke fun at and laugh.
Coco - updated TT list on lauta, could very well be the next Elma Master ^^ (he wins, Abula)

- Achievement
Adi - 100% pwnage of the Pipo pack in one table.
Raven - incredible internal hoylage in just few weeks.
berh - successfully evading the filters and bans on lauta and belma time and time again.
AKB - successfully cutting back on his spammage and actually seeming to mature a little since his bans.
all of ICE - successfully keeping us stupified as to who "The Stig" is, while still doing almost nothing at all.
Zomblos - incredibly mysterious elma skills, also nice guy, a bit quiet though.

- Site
Lauta - i believe the scene here has actually managed to MATURE enough in this last year that we now look at everything seriously and analyse it before just saying 'yeah you suck, gtfo.' - quite the achievement considering all the numnuts that have managed to register here.
nindex - successfully getting up and running without too much embarressment.
MRII site - nice design, applet.

- Art
Antz levels are pretty much always an artistic vision, gz.

- Community Award
well i believe the person who gave the most to the community this year was milagros (again) -> just incredible work on belma always and generally a nice guy, always able to sort out problems and STILL hoyl for a WR.
also i think Kopaka deserves a vote too because of his recent work on Elma Online, it's an incredible project and once completed i think it will change the scene for the better for a LONG TIME

I don't know much, but I would say this:

Internalist: Zweq, Kowal, Raven
Rookie: Me :D
WR: mr in Freefall

Maybe I could add more, but I'm not the most important in the scene so there are many things I don't know 8)
