It's again time to hold the ElastoMania community's very own annual awards show: The Golden Apple Awards!

Moposite GAA pages
GAA07
GAA08

As you may have noticed, the GAA starts later this year than it has done in the past. This is because we decided to define a fixed GAA period, which will hold for all coming GAAs as well: The period goes from January 1st to December 31st of a given year.
This will make it more predictable to know what's eligible for a GAA and not, and it also makes sense that the whole of the year 2009 is the basis for GAA09. Previously, it's been somewhat random when the GAA period has ended, so it's good to have a formal structure behind it now.
However, a consequence of this change is that the GAA has to be held at a later time, to make sure notable events and achievements happening in December will be included.

Since this change was not done last year, the GAA period of GAA09 is from December 16th 2008 to December 31st 2009.

Jury
The jury this year consists of BoneLESS, igge, Kopaka, Markku, Raven and SveinR.

Categories

- Externalist
- Battler
- Rookie
- Designer
- Team
- WR
- Style

- Level

- Achievement

- Community Award

Notes: In the Rookie category, the definition is: A Rookie is defined as someone who entered the scene in the GAA period, or up to 3 months prior.
In the Replay category, only replays that have been publically shared as actual .rec files will be eligible for this award. So even if your run is included in an Elma movie, it won't be eligible for the Replay award unless you have released the actual replay file.
In the Achievement category, the rules were changed in GAA06 so that one kuski only has one of the nomination spots, making it more similar to the Contribution category. However, you don't have to take this into consideration when submitting your initial nominations.
In the Site category, you don't necessarily vote for the site that is the "best site" overall, but rather the site that has improved the most, increased its relevancy the most, etc, over the past year.
In the Art category, any type of Elma-related art is eligible. This can include replay movies (such as EDQ, advertisement movies for cups, etc), real-life movies such as Elma Crime, images/artwork, music, and other types of art.
Community Award: This is an award decided entirely by the community. Those eligible to vote in the Third Step will vote for the people they think most deserve a special honour, be it for their helpfulness, kindness, contributions or simply for being a great player. The reason will be the individual voters' own decision. The idea is that the award will go to the kuski most appreciated by the community. There will be no set of candidates to vote over in this category, each voter decides himself. So the voting process for this category does not really start before the Third Step.

Voting rules
See 'Instructions of the voting process' below.

Date
February 7th 2010, 20:00 EET (GMT+2).

Instructions of the voting process

First step:
You can reply to this topic and tell your favourite candidates in the different categories. Please list clearly the category and then the suggestion(s). Note: You are not allowed to vote in the third step unless you give any suggestions (one is compulsory but more are recommended) in this step. Arguments are appreciated. Also, when it comes to categories such as Replay, Level, Style and Art, it would be of great help if you could provide attachments/links to the specific suggestions. Note that having posted suggestions in the GAA suggestions thread doesn't matter, you have to post in this topic!

Deadline: Wednesday 16 December, 23:59 EET

Second step:
The jury will choose ten candidates to each category. The jury members will choose the candidates according to their experience and knowledge (they will also be reading, and taking into consideration, the community's suggestions).

Tentative Deadline: 10 January

Third step:
Now we have the top10 for each category available. Now again the Elma community can vote. The criterias for being allowed to vote are: Well-known kuski (decided by the jury) and the kuski has posted some suggestions in the first step (so we see that he has been active during the whole process) OR you don't have to be well-known IF you posted a nice suggestion list with reasonable arguments. You don't have to vote in every category but if you do vote in some category you must pick your top5 and not just top1 or top3. So choose top5 or nothing, is the point.

Deadline: Tuesday 02 February, 23:59 EET (GMT+2)

Fourth step:
The jury will collect the top5 for each category according absolutely to the community votes. The point system will be as follows: 5 points to every first position, 4 points to every second position etc.
This will be the top5 to be used in the final show.

Fifth step:
The different jury members will vote over the different categories, and the community will also give 2 votes to the candidate who got most points in the third step, and 1 vote to the candidate who got the second-most points. The different jury members' votes will not be public. In the event of a tie, the candidate who got most points from the community in the third step will win. If there still is a tie, the one who got most 5 points will win, then 4 points etc. If the winner cannot be resolved by this, the jury will come together and discuss the matter to declare a winner.

Note: For the Community Award the voting process will be different. Instructions on that will be presented when the Third Step starts.

The final show is held on IRCnet, channel #gaa.

Date and time: Sunday February 7th, 20:00 EET (GMT+2)

Battler: Markku

Rookie: does Grob qualify for this?

Designer: zebra

Team: TR

WR: Animal Fram by john

Style: Zweq's BB

Replay: Zweq's BB

Level: BC420 in banana cup, took style finding to a new level, very original

Contest: Banana Cup deserves this win, it had more creativity than any other cup in my opinion, and obviously took a lot of planning and thinking behind it. Also was put together very well, and had some humor behind it, everything about this cup was great, I'm surprised it hasn't gotten any votes yet.

Contribution: Pawq

Achievement: John being the first 35TT most definitely

Site: Moposite!

Art: Wooden kuski by Rast, link is given in Thorze's comment

Community Award: I think Juish should get it, he's been around for a long time and he's a very nice guy, also quite dedicated to his contests nowadays. He also is holding a contest with cash prizes :0

I would participate in the GAA 09 process, but I feel it would not be fair since I've been active about two - three months during this period! I will wait for the next one =)

Table 32 up. adi [MiE] did the thing which I thought was impossible: he beat Tisk's total time by over a minute! This means he broke the 2:06 minute limit also. In the course of action, he took the incredible 178 new wrs, all of which seemed quite perfect to me. Amazing, really.
and Pipo levpacks

Table 9 up. adi [EF] continues to amaze us with his imbelieveable times. He took now ALL the wrs to himself and broke the magical 23 minute limit! Seems that all the other players are totally stupefied under his overwhelming skills. Will there ever be a challenger for him? We'll see. Congratulations adi, once again.

Mawane: Bludek played many cups. He's not a rookie. Also not sure of Madness, I think he had 38 already when he entered back this summer or what? Correct the Madness case if you have proof.

The definition of Rookie does not concern when someone started playing, only when he entered the scene.

You should use also some common sense instead of just one single absolute rule in the definition of a rookie. If Madness had some 38min TT before entering the scene he really can't be considered a rookie imho. Actually I think there should be the best improver-prize instead of the best rookie-prize.

Now it's only suggestion of nominees thread. It is community and jury, who will use common sense during voting process, but this will be after. And, finally, nobody said that the kuski who has best tt will won rookie award.

Actually, there already exist such category. And its name is... "Internalist". i'm wondering why each year zweq won it.

No no no, I meant that best improver -prize = prize for a guy who has improved his playing the most during the year (but preferably some relatively new player from pretty nab skills to pro, not from already pro skills to even more pro so it would be nearly like the rookie-prize)

And Nekit would be a good rookie indeed, he developed pretty serious hard ff -skills (both in playing and making) during the year like Zweq mentioned.

It's quite possible to make 39tt in a year of active playing. Many "Rookie" nominees did that. So if one accept this as the achievement for rookies, it shouldn't be the achivement for kuskis, who entered the scene before. The only good chalenge for that people - to make breakthrough if you are already near 39tt. And this is the category of "Internalists". No need for new category.

ill gladly stay out of gaa, if that is possible, and if it makes someone happy =) i dont give a shit about all these categories, which about half of can be won by höyling ints (which i enjoy every now and then). theres barely competition in internals, althouygh this year is providing quite juicy exception to teh internal inactiveness in the couple last years. when i won my first gaa, i was fucking happy because i was chosen over toringe as the internalist of 2004, who could wish for greater title when battling against such a great kuski as toringe, and i also got that fucking cool prize which i still got on the top of my shelf.

nowadays only teh best battler category is a good one, and it's a great honor to be chosen as one and will always be so, because it is easily the most competitive and hardest prize to get in gaa.

As always, some people disputing about who is eligible for Rookie.

Madness cannot be nominated, he has had 38tt for some years, under the nick Martin or Martin2 a while ago.

I myself, for some reason, appear to be nominated for Rookie for the fourth year in a row by someone. People confuse me.

Grob is ineligible

Nico-o i believe has been around for a little over a year and a half.

Nekit was also prior to the period.

Bludek has had skills for a while, just didn't bother to join the scene.

Thunder has been around a while, i believe.

will do my suggestion later.

No, what is meant is anything from belma, Moposite/Mopolauta, some cup/contest, #across, russian scene, etc.
