SveinR wrote: About Rookie: We had discussions about replacing it with a Breakthrough category, where really no lines would have to be drawn. It could be difficult to decide what's a breakthrough or not though. Ultimately we didn't change Rookie or add Breakthrough category, but what would your thoughts be towards such a category?

I like the idea of not having rules or guidelines concerning what makes a 'real' rookie, the people who play this game on a daily basis in eol will have the best sense of who are the rookies and who are not, and they will also make their nominations here on who is the best and not be stupid about it. For example, jon was just a little over a year from what I have heard and was thus not able to make the quota that has been set up, and now we have other people in the nominations who technically shouldn't be there because they have played far back into the past already. By putting the rules on this you will only be bound to create dispute and conflict every year of gaa, i say change it.

Speeches:

Start speech:

[19:00:42] <SveinR> 20:00 EET Greetings, welcome to the 8th annual Golden Apple Awards!
[19:01:03] <SveinR> This channel is +m so only operators and voiced people will be able to talk, use #across for free talk. Stupid nick changes will result in a ban.
[19:01:12] <SveinR> The are 16 categories and five candidates in each category. The candidates have been chosen by the jury and the community, click here for more info: http://mopolauta.moposite.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=7004
[19:01:18] <SveinR> The jury consists of six members: BoneLESS, Kopaka, niN, Orcc, Ville_J and zaraptor. SveinR is the organizer.
[19:01:26] <SveinR> The winners are determined by community votes and jury votes. In the event of a tie, community votes matter.
[19:01:33] <SveinR> If I get disconnected and won't come back for an hour, the show will be postponed to the same time tomorrow.
[19:01:42] <SveinR> -----------------------------------------------------
[19:02:41] <SveinR> Ok, so with those opening formalities taken care of, let's move on to the show!
[19:03:06] <SveinR> We start of course, with the first category of the evening.

[19:50:12] <John--> Thank you! It is now almost 2 years ago since I decided to actively start searching for an Octo style. 3 hours later I managed to pull myself up for the first time.
[19:50:28] <John--> I quickly realised the potential but had to wait til summer before being able to hoyl it. On 29th of June 2009 I got my second finish with it and broke the 36tt barrier, so it's a somewhat important part of my years with Elma. Thanks, I appreciate it!
[19:50:39] <John--> that's it :)

09. Replay, John

[19:58:04] <John--> wicked
[19:58:31] <John--> First half is cool, second half isn't. That's nerves visible through the screen right there! I'm glad you still thought it was worthy of a GAA though.

[20:14:34] <ville_j> I want to thank everyone who played it, hope you all enjoyed it as I did
[20:15:12] <ville_j> I will be back for more contests (after rdc ofc), I'm not done yet!

[20:20:41] <teh_mila> i hope i will get motivation to finish last details some day
[20:21:23] <teh_mila> it was fun to code
[20:21:27] <teh_mila> for first 3-4 weeks
[20:21:37] <teh_mila> then it was pure pain
[20:22:02] <teh_mila> all the hard challenging stuff was done and it was hard to get motivation
[20:22:42] <teh_mila> but yeah, im happy i dont have to do it again:)
[20:23:53] <SveinR> Congratulations again, truly deserved :)
[20:24:14] <teh_mila> \o/

13. Achievement, Pab

[20:31:18] <Pab> hi
[20:31:22] <Pab> sorry ded(
[20:31:37] <Pab> i never expected getting all jopis until i had about 45 records
[20:31:42] <Pab> was such a hard work
[20:32:04] <Pab> almost all the time seemed impossible with such legendary pipers playing
[20:32:24] <Pab> im really surprised right now
[20:32:35] <Pab> love jopis
[20:33:11] <niN> Thank you Pab, if that was all we will move on

[20:44:49] <niN> Thank you thank you
[20:44:53] <Jappe2> stfu retard
[20:44:58] <niN> I'm gonna let jappe2 talk
[20:45:04] <niN> I'll say a few words after him
[20:45:18] <Jappe2> let me start by saying this was done 99% by me
[20:45:32] <Jappe2> it was all me
[20:45:58] <Jappe2> frankly i gave nin some credit, because when i first met him i actually thought he is mentally challenged
[20:46:10] <Jappe2> so i figured i can give this poor guy a break and let him have some credit
[20:46:27] <Jappe2> but now it turns out he is not retarded after all, just really really dumb
[20:46:53] <Jappe2> anyway, it is important to know that without me this would have never happened
[20:47:04] <niN> when I first met jappe2, I could tell he was a very beautiful little man
[20:47:05] <Jappe2> ramone fucks kids
[20:47:08] <Jappe2> ty ty all
[20:47:32] <niN> I remember he was burning hot from the fever he had and I took a wet cloth in my hand and rubbed his face with it
[20:48:00] <Jappe2> btw alledgedly fucks kids
[20:48:07] <Jappe2> it was never proven in court
[20:48:14] <niN> I took care of him for those eight days he had that sensational fever, and the nightmares he had were pure insanity
[20:48:15] <Jappe2> and it was in thailand so its ok
[20:48:40] <niN> So then the fever settled and we were like two little puppies again
[20:48:53] <niN> forever undevided but forever we'll be free if I may quote
[20:49:26] <niN> I would also like to quote elton john :"hold me closer tiny dancer"
[20:49:44] <niN> also thanks to the people credited in the vid
[20:50:02] <niN> watch it if you haven't. I hope moposite will put it on the site.
[20:50:06] <niN> Thanks folks!

16. Community Award, milagros

[20:52:51] <SveinR> The Community Award for 2010 goes to someone who has single-handedly changed the way we play Elma. In 2007 he created belma, the first program that enabled online playing and battling.
[20:53:04] <SveinR> In the summer of 2010 the long-awaited new version, Elma Online (EOL), was finally released to the public after years of development. Needless to say, it met everyone's expectations and became the new main stage of Elma playing.
[20:53:15] <SveinR> What used to be only a distant dream for several years, is now something we almost take for granted. People have actually gone as far as to say they think the Elma scene might have died if it wasn't for him.
[20:53:38] <SveinR> To quote one of the voters: "made eol, and that made me start elma again, I am forever grateful".
[20:53:49] <SveinR> The Community Award of course goes to...
[20:53:59] <SveinR> milagros!

[20:54:17] <teh_mila> horray
[20:54:33] <teh_mila> i will repeat myself... it was fun and then it wasnt anymore:)
[20:54:54] <teh_mila> anyway at the beginning i would never say things that were done are actually possible
[20:55:18] <teh_mila> it was suppsoed to be funny project where ppl see each other
[20:55:30] <teh_mila> and at the end it ended up it quite huge project
[20:55:43] <teh_mila> i believe i did more code for eol than balazs:)
[20:56:00] <teh_mila> i really wonder what would be his opinion about eol
[20:56:10] <teh_mila> i may end up in teh prison:)
[20:56:33] <teh_mila> so thanks, maybe i should really finish those last details
[20:57:00] <YEAHS> no need
[20:57:06] <BoneLESS> Well deserved mila.
[20:57:14] <niN> good job!
[20:57:18] <teh_mila> atleast server crash should be fixed or smth
[20:58:19] <teh_mila> one good thing about eol is that it improved my hacking skills
[20:58:29] <teh_mila> ive never done anything before, so i kinda learnt it here
[20:58:41] <teh_mila> and those skills are very useful, i must say:)
[20:59:27] <niN> online cheat check next?
[20:59:53] <teh_mila> its not easy to cheat in eol, no need to add anything better
[21:00:18] <SveinR> Well, congratulations again milagros, the community definitely appreciates your work.
[21:00:26] <teh_mila> thanks

End speech:

[21:01:09] <SveinR> So after 2 hours, the Golden Apple Awards 2010 have come to a close!
[21:01:45] <SveinR> We hope everyone's enjoyed it, and congratulate all the winners for their deserved awards one more time.
[21:02:05] <niN> They sent YEAHS on a rocketship
[21:02:41] <SveinR> Thanks to all who voted :)
[21:03:31] <niN> and lets put our hands together to SVeinR who organizes this every year without being mentioned!
[21:03:49] <SveinR> Thanks niN, I appreciate it :)
[21:04:29] <SveinR> Hopefully we'll see everyone in a year or so, good night for now!

Are you saying the jury has sucked for the past 3 years? Or is it simply that he makes the best overall battles, thus gets the most community points, and therefore wins.

2. How do you know it was the jury and not the community that made Ramone win? In either case, his winning the award three years in a row clearly shows most people disagree with you.

3. You may not remember (obviously you don't), but Kopaka won both the Contribution and the Community Award GAAs last year.

2. I think that Ramone winning GAA for 3 times in a row is a huge fucking misunderstanding. He makes millions of levs, which mostly contain just a few vertices, and all have beautiful grass. Definitely GAA worthy
3. then from my point of view it was bad in the previous year too. It's like a movie winning 10 oscars (I don't like it. very)

Well, the Contribution award and the Community Award are not the same. The Contribution award goes to the one who has made most impact in contributing to the scene, as decided by the community and the jury. The Community Award goes to whoever the community wants it to. It doesn't have to be because of contribution. As you can see GRob came fifth this year. Maybe one year a pure player will win it.

Do you think someone who makes a few mega good external times should win externalist GAA instead of a kuski, who drives millions of good times? We would have a serious lack of good battle levs if Ramone wouldn't keep making them day after day. Not to forget his cup levs or earlier external packs. Show some respect to that dedication.

And wtf is THIS? :| Seriously, Ramone makes levels that are max complex, still playable and fun for everyone from noob to pro, there are ALWAYS some cool tricks and such in them. But really, wtf "which mostly contain just a few vertices"?? and one more ? .

I also want to say a friendly "fuck you" to everyone who speaks something about someone not deserving GAA. Community nominated, community voted, pro jury was involved. Seriously, whoever won whatever it was deserved. You/your favorite does not always win.

I don't particularly like ramone's levelmaking style, but fuck no, he DEFINITELY deserves designer gaa, at least this year if not the last 3 years.

The idea behind Designer GAA is who can supply the community with a vast number of really good levels across the year.

Ramone is the only one that did this. Good designers like villej and barryp and so make few levels
People like Pab and Dreamhunter who make millions - it's simple, they're levels AREN'T VERY GOOD.

Ramone is deserving.

Mila deserves to win all GAA's.

i guess elma 'peak' was somewhere late 2004 or early 2005, after that arguably elma scene was slowly dying until mila did teh belma in early 2007. Without belma i guess today would still be a few nab wrs a year and small bunch of people playing irc battles. Now when there is belma/eol, instead of slow death the community is having steady growth(in ppl quantity, not necessarily quality :P).

Even if this got nothing to do with gaa10, you can still ask yourself would there have been gaa10 without belma? ;o
