Redesign challenge idea

I just had an idea. The goal is to finish a specific internal (not necessarily driving a good time) by removing the most vertices possible. The most vertices removed and finished time wins. (no moving of anything)

Thoughts?

Could be fun, but would be kinda annoying to remove the same vertices many times from the beginning when you try different styles.

For you perhaps. A pro however would of course do the optimal style for the beginning, and thus not have to re-do anything.

Some levels would definitly suck:
- Flat Track, Uphill Battle (straight line)
- Apple Harvest, Freefall (barely a vertice to delete)

While some have some definite potential:
- Upside Down
- Expert System
- Tricks Abound

All in all, I like the idea.

My idea is to have the most vertices removed, not the best time with removing vertices allowed. Therefore, Apple Harvest becomes interesting.

Would the kuski have to count how many verticies theyve removed while in the process of doing it? or is there some program where you can figure that out for yourself bismuth?

If there is some way to ensure the original stuff didn't get modified in Redesign cup, I guess there is a way to verify how many vertices are left. I don't know how .lev files are written, though.

And for the comparison with some of my other ideas, well, it's not my problem if they're unpopular. I personally believe that if anybody else submitted those ideas, he would have got praise and enthusiasm. Maybe I'm wrong, too.

Guys just make a simple cup with good levels, no need for any more wierd ideas.
Freestyle contest bad idea, ppl would play first event, watch the replays and realize it's very boring contest and rides. Elma has nothing to do with freestyle anyway, not if you played for 10 years at least. I remember how cool I felt when I learned the front flip on bare ground. If I were a judge I would always rate the rec with the best time highest, would be impossible to rate in freestyle mode. And I also guess it can be pretty unfair if someone is let down just because not making two volts before the bounce but only one. It would be a ridicules contest.

Redesign idea removing vertices? -More boring than Redesign Cup.

50% disagree with both of you. Retarded ideas are indeed retarded, but I think cups with a good and original twist are really nice.

i agree 75% with igge and 25% with the others, original ideas for cups ar coolik but nat when they are super gay like for exampel "switch grass polys with norm polys and remove 3 vertices from each then add 1 grav apel". redesgin cup on the other hand worked wery good i think)

Actually, Bismuth, you could just do this as an experiment on your own. Most events would probably be tied if you made it a contest.

Finished New Wave with 16 vertices. I think 13 might just be possible, but it's very hard to drive. Anyone up to the challenge?

Give this idea a try, it's quite fun actually when you just remember to save many enough levels.

I might need an external editor for this, since having an undo-button would be extremely helpful.

Tried some more:

Warm Up: 4 (obvious, but not with first try like one would think)
Flat Track: 4 (still needs a brutal)
Twin Peaks: 5 (4 maybe pasibel but hard)
Long Haul: 14 (maybe even possible with 8?)

finished serpents tale with 25 vertexes left. This, if one is allowed to delete whole polygons.
22 vertexes possible for me, 13 vertexes for zweq maybe.

i've just done a 22 in serpents. Wonder if same levs :] Hard to improve for me.
EDIT: aaaaaand a different solution yields the result of only 16 vertices! Probably can push it down to 15, hard better.

im getting like 1 wheel close to finish serpents with 12 vertices

edit: ez 11 if can drive through vertex for flower, has anyone tried this? flower is really max close to edge (typical low fps trick)

how teh fakc 12? 5 for frame, and 3 for first poly. that's 8. then only 4 more vertices in entire level, and 4 vertices can only make 1 polygon. How the fuck do you finish serpents with only 2 polygons remaining within a frame?

I picked the flower inside teh wall. Not too much inside of a wall, though. So i'm not entirely sure if that's what zweq was referring to. Probably not. Attached a lev.

Finished islands in the sky, 7 vertices there.

well i can upik, or dunno if ppl want. finished now anyway and i count 12 vertices, imo 9 vertices possible but that needs some megasick ride

edit; oh yeah ez 11 (8) vertices possible if copy "end style" from anp lev but i have deleted wrong one already( pro balazs put some extra vertices in top left corner :D)

ice cream, coffee and a wr rec of choice to guy who does with 8 vertices without xiit 8)

haha anp, checked out your 15 vertexlev, quite similar to my 13 vertex attempt, but i didnt have low right loop thingie.

plz up your lev zweq! 12 vertexes sound sick ;o

aah nvm z! i can imagine 11: 4 frame, 4 start poly and one triangle in the room. but 8 sounds like no triangle in the room = impsy jump o.o
