Was playing old world cup levels earlier today and was thinking the exact same thing. The scene isn't any more dead than 8 years ago I'd say, so it's totally plausable to have one. In the end I guess it's up to px, wether it's him arranging or him "endorsing" other people doing it. Don't remember any word from him, in any of the topics there have been about it.

I assume px doesn't care. If anyone wants to organize it, he should just ask px and organize it. Don't expect px to arrange anything by himself.

Elma has changed a lot in 8 years. I suppose there is no real need for an external site, most of the action would happen on EOL site anyway since all times must be driven online. I think all it would need would be increased user/nab-friendliness and visibility on the EOL website and proper promotion through Moposite and all other ways to reach players such as YouTube, other communities etc.

What we can do right now is creating and collecting the levels and establishing the rules. Let's ride this momentum of awareness and make it happen. Summer is just beginning and it's the prime time for Elma hoyling worldwide. If Kopaka or whoever else can contribute to the organizing via EOL website agrees - let's ANNOUNCE THE POSSIBLE START DATE AND SCHEDULE ASAP because summer is beginning and time is of essence!

We could start donating for a small Top 3 prize pool? Get someone to make a trailer? Snowball this thing!

I'll make a couple levels myself right now :)

I really can't get excited about anything which is in some generic site among other 50000000 things, World Cup if anything deserves a proper handling and it's own place.

Sure, but what would be the real function of such a website? Everything has to through EOL in the end anyway...

The real function would be just to extend the hype, I mean you know how the marketing and new product launches work? And you could have all kinds of features in the site (online replays to easily check different styles etc, whatever you could come up). Where do you even upload replays when cup in eol page? Where are teh cups in eol page in the first place? I have never liked eol page, it's quite confusing. I will be very disappointed if World Cup will be just dropped there just like any other cup.

Edit: Okay yes I found teh place now that I spent few mins. Is "just fine" or "will do", but I just think it would deserve something more.

It wouldn't be dropped in EOL just like any other cup. It would have increased visibility and userfriendliness added so it would be just impossible to miss.

Also I would be willing to arrange collecting donations for trophies, engraving and shipping and carrying that out. http://www.onlinetrophies.co.uk/photos/ ... 94MOTO.jpg here is the best I've found so far. Costs 14 pounds per trophy with free custom center image (Elma of course) and engraving. (and here is a cheaper one at 8.50 pounds per trophy: http://www.onlinetrophies.co.uk/photos/ ... 0-797E.jpg ) Plus about 5-10 pounds per shipment depending on location. Comes out to about $100 total needed in donations, anything excess would be donated to EOL. Sounds good? Maybe it's cheaper in another country instead of UK, dunno.

does anyone know how to contact px? i think it's pretty clear that he won't arrange this thing, but it's impossible to promote something as official World Cup if he doesn't give his permission or ideally he nominates someone as his "follower" or something like that.

Relating to Ville's and 8ball's discussion - I think WC would definitely deserve a website. As Ville said, it would have all the cool features that the EOL website doesn't have/couldn't handle. And you wouldn't make people go to elmaonline.net/statistics/cups/WC or whatever. You'd make them go to elmaworldcup.net or something memorable and recognisable like that.

Wouldn't it be possible to combine the EOL site and a dedicated World Cup site (which should definitely be made)? I mean having the necessary info on EOL site for those who want that and for easy verification etc, but also having that info (and much more) on the dedicated site.

Why is px relevant to World Cup? There isn't any rule that he MUST organise it. It's simple:

If we attempt to make Abula and px the organisers of the cup, it will never happen.

Lets move on, set someone else to organise. There are a lot of very dedicated and organised people within the scene who could handle it.

It's always been my dream to have most data on eol site RSS'd, so people can make their own website for cups or levelpacks or whatever and get times from eolsite easily. Would be best and easiest to use the cup system already on eolsite. Making an rss feed for the results of each event should be easy, so results can be shown on moposite and a standalone site aswell. Having the replay uploading on the other pages might be difficult though. Of course it would get super visibility on eolsite, a (possibly mandatory) widget on frontpage that shows info about last and current event (maybe even rec uploading), a picture in the banner highlighting current event.
Haruhi wrote:Why is px relevant to World Cup?
Because of tradition, and if not that because it's his trademark, and without atleast some sort of blessing for the organizers it would be cheap and unofficial. Anyway we pretty much have that now, so let's indeed go ahead.

So, for those not in IRC, we are talking about a start in beginning of september. Start sep 1st with 15 events would mean end on dec 16th, fitting nicely before christmas. So if you have any opinions on this now is the time. Also we are discussing skip system, either 1 worst result is discared, you are forced to skip 1 or we have no skips at all. There will be some more official announcement later, but if you are designer, I also just wanted to say it would probably not be a waste to start making a level or two ;)

Like many others have said, especially in the skip-vote topic, wccup is all about commitment and trying to find whatever little time you might be able to squeeze out of your day and dedicating it towards elma. Maybe now you actually have a reason not to procrastinate in school, since you'd want to be able to play an equal amount of time every week and thus you have to portion out your school work equally. I doubt you study for the same amount of hours a normal person works anyway.

Perhaps it's different in other countries, but none of my close friends study for 8-9 hours a day, every single weekday. Sure, when the exams are closing in they'll start studying more, but the fact that they also have a lot of downtime kinda evens it out. Realize that a break from school of 1 week equals 40 hours worth of studying before finals (1 week with no school equals 16 hours/day for a week before exams). Anyway what I'm trying to say is that everyone is strapped for time, and what matters is how you manage your free time.

It seems like many players grew up and/or got a life. "Back in the day" no one would have cared much about when and how much, but it's a big topic now. Nice! :)

Well, from the poll 50% want either 1 or 2 worst results discarded, as opposed to 33% who want no skips. I too would kinda prefer no skips, but discarding the 15th worst result could be good for those that do get affected by exams or whatever else.

Okay I anwes myself: In Across when you pressed brake+right rotate at the start of the lev your backwheel would sometimes accelerate in opposite direction, in other words you would get speed boost to the right, roughly 1 sec in this case. When I played that wcup lev myself I thought DAMEZ I need to finish a good run with that bug so I'll get an advantage.

With that I would have lost only by 30 secs

Any new features you would like to see on eol cup page for wc6? could be new stats or utilities such as rec sharing within team.
