Why do pipe levs often feature brutals and other tricks?

Post by kuchitsu »

Was there some levelpack that spawned this tradition? Did people at some point decide that just having pipes is not challenging enough? Do we know?

imo its because often when you come out of pipe you have pretty good control about what angle you have towards the next wall or floor. so more ez brutal, brake hang etc.

It has been going on since day 1. Pipes were originally pure challenge levels which also explains why there are so many apples in most of them. The point was simply to get as far as possible and having all these hard spots made it really difficult.

Having a constant adrenaline rush is definitely a common thing with pipes and other tricks just add up to it. Tricks such as brutals and bounces can also be performed in a fairly controlled environment since there are not too many angles that you can be in after coming out of a pipe. They are also planned to be quite flowy whereas many brutal/bounce tricks in normal levels often require much more effort in order to work.
