Nice, I agree a fixed sum will hit very differently among kuskis.

Maybe one idea would base the cost percentage-wise on EU recommended "per diem" amounts, as they should account for each country's relative cost of living:

https://ec.europa.eu/europeaid/sites/de ... -17_en.pdf

So then take the total amount and divide the cost based on the amount of participants as well as their relative cost based on the per-diem percentage.

Though looking at that list it gets a bit obscured since it also accounts for acommodation, which is maybe not always representative of the country's average cost of living (i guess hotels tend to be inflated since its not locals paying for it)

Since my work pays for acommodation I'm used to go by the swedish "IRS" standard which only covers food and other daily expenses:

https://www.skatteverket.se/privat/skat ... 16035.html

And on top of this we could ofc also set up a "sponsorship"/donation option for those who still might have a hard time paying (bc also more expensive flight tickets etc)

Yeh I think it should be possible for people to pay different amounts. Doing the math based on everyone's home country is one option, but even within those there are differences between kuskis. It would be a bit of work, but another solution would be for everyone to inform (nick-o-matic) how they feel about their own financial status. I have a gut feeling that there are those who will willingly pay more and those who, like nom said, could even skip the whole event because of the price tag.

Since I've already paid my dues, so to speak, I might still chip in the usual 50e-ish amount if it helps anyone. Surprisingly I'm not really short of money currently so I'd be happy to help out.

Idea: If people could first donate some money to FEM money pool (1-100 euros) depending on their financial status. After that the rest needed money (if any) could be divided evenly to all participants. Nick-o-matic should state clearly when is the latest possible time to donate money. After that he could calculate the received money and divide the rest.

This sounds a really practical approach to this problem, let's do that! However, I don't think any huge donations are needed. Since so many people are coming, the average price per person is probably actually less than before, like 50€ or less per person for full time people and 25€ or less for weekend people (I need to do some more proper calculations). And every donation is taking that down. So some 100€ donations are probably an exaggeration :)

It is not needed to pay it to the pool yet, just let me know in any way how much you would like to pay. The deadline to tell this thing is at the first weekend of FEM (before first people start leaving). Also, please remember that this money is just what you pay on top to the regular payment (which is not known exactly yet.

About the money in general: I will sum up my expenses and take that amount, rest of the money I will not keep myself, it will go to my parents. They also have some expenses related to this. Moreover, in my opinion they also deserve a small (maybe a few hundred euros?) compensation ("rent") for this whole process. Their life work has resulted in all the infrastructure and beautiful environment at our farm, without which arranging FEM there would not be possible. Also, it is impossible to avoid this event not bothering them, they also have already had to take part to some arranging procedure, and during the meeting they can not relax and enjoy summer exactly in the same way as normally. Moreover, this "rent" money will be in practice used for upkeep of our farm and thus FEM facilities. I hope people would agree about this.

Wow, thank you, but, really, you don't need to pay anything extra! :) I appreciate your work really much, I would be a bit ashamed to receive any extra from you. And in my preliminary calculations (~50€ for full time) I have took into account that there are relatively many helpers who do not need to pay anything at all (and thus the amount of paying people is lower than the amount of total participants).

Thank you also for igge for your ideas! However, at least for now, we are going with zebra's system :)

After special June heat wave we are going to have just as special July coldness wave, and the whole FEM is going to be under 20 degrees (except maybe last day) and at weekend it will probably be under 10 degrees at night. https://www.foreca.fi/Finland/Parikkala ... ahti/10vrk

Please take some long-sleeved clothings, and if poss, also sleeping bag. About 1/3 or even 1/2 of people have to sleep at granaries or at the cowhouse attic (the building where the computers are). I have gathered many blankets but in this weather one person needs like 3 blankets in granaries or cowhouse attic so they will run out. Also a sleeping bag is better than 3 blankets anyway when it is cold. I have few sleeping bags for some people here as well though. However, house is probably possible to stack extra full with people because it is not needed to worry about it getting too hot inside, which would normally be a problem.

In an extreme situation there is also some cheap motel-style accommodation available close (like 2km).

Im gonna ask for help!

My plan was to fix one of my two old broken pcs. But was not possible to buy new amd processor with am2+/am3 socket including fan/cooler anymore.

And was thursday evening when I realized this, so no time to find/buy/shipping/installing used one in time.

So! Does anyone have processor and fan I could buy or borrow from old pc in bottom of closet or such?

That would be very helpful.

The other pc dunno whats wrong but the error message usually means need change battery (cr2032) on motherboard/card. At least according to internet. But that did not help.

So, any idea to bring any of those old broken pcs?

I will still bring kb, screen and mice. Would gladly share a station with anyone if hardto bring screen for someone. I guess wont be glued at screen anyways. Want play for sure beer battle, 6 first and then ofc make a few TT battles and then spy comment.

I suggested sharing with zweq but he did not reply and I am not surprised.

Bring pc?
Can someone help fix?
Can someone bring processor/fan?
(And help me install?)
Anyone wanna share?

Wont bother bring pc if 0% chance.

Thanks in advance and see you fucking soon! And #STOKED

Getting a CPU with some obscure old socket probably not very likely, but I think there are supposed to be some spare laptops there.

I know the above is not very helpful, but what I really wanted to write is: in worst case scenario poss go to some second-hand shop and buy some oldish PC? Should be poss to get a PC just good enough for elma for very low $$ imo :)

Are we going to see the first Beer Battle Hatrick this year? Not many great competitions have been won three times in a row (if any?)

Hi! I'm back at home. This year's FEM was a bit different from earlier ones:
- the place was different
- the meeting needed a lot of job to do, especially by nick-o-matic. Thanks to all arrangers! You (we) did great job!
- weather was much colder
- i visited FEM only during days, not nights.
All these made it a little bit different but it was still enjoyable.

For me the best things this year were:
- bene's secret bear videos!
- Finman's challenge
- Smoke sauna

It was also nice to get to know nick-o-matic's family. Maybe again next year? :)

Ramone is sleeping and I'm sitting on the boat not knowing what to do so here are my thoughts.

Very enjoyable fem overall. The weather was a bit bad which made it less enjoyable. I also missed the outdoors part of FEM. Like the big table where someone always sitting and doing stuff. It's nice for me who doesn't play to go there and chat. We need a better smoking area that is used. Really amazing work organizing by nom and his helpers.

Most enjoyable parts that I can think of now in no particular order:
- jblaze, amazing fun guy, spying bullets with jblaze was one of funniest moments of fem
- having to think for like 5 seconds after seeing zero to realize who it was standing in front of me
- spef making me food
- hugging talli
- smoke sauna, house sauna was also really good
- antti as always
- meeting akb, amazing man, sharing a beer with akb
- Finman contest was amazing. Makes me wish I would have brought my computer to try it properly.
- bear secret, this has evolved from "bene secret" to a community effort. I organized some things and presented it at fem but like for the int51 video I did nothing other than this. It was spef and ics video. If you do amazing things, let me know and I can include it. I have never planned the secret. It is just a compilation of what happened during the year. I have some really good ideas now though because of Ramone and others guessing what it would be this year, but I need good kuskis to make them happen.

Very very huge shoutout to ics for making us the videos.

I'm sure I missed things in the enjoyable list. I can add later. This is just tired post fem ramblings of my.

Fun fact: we started int51 video project right after Spef's thirty-bear.XX run (November 2018), but wasn't originally planned as a FEM secret video, it was planned as a surprise video before WR table #402 update (in February).
But I was focusing on my WCup1 video (started December 2018) and somehow completely lost inspiration about int51 project.
After release of WCup1 movie, int51 project felt much easier to continue and finish until FEM.

Fun fact 2: bene with the "final" version of TASvideo on his USB stick was already travelling to FEM when Stini sent me a better rec of mawpi563 (11.69 instead of 12.54). I replaced rec and re-rendered video, and this FinalFinal version was brought to FEM by Stini.

Post by insane guy »

bene summed it up quite nicely, still some more input from me:

- Insane effort done by nom, Luther and all other helpers, thanks for making it possible!
- Awesome parents who let 30+ guys get shit faced and play elma all day on their property. Bonus points for dad-o-matic for driving me to the train early in the morning!
- Since sleeping place (for most of us) was very warm, the cold weather wasn't so bad for me.
- Great variety of contests on the first weekend. Have to stay longer next year to take part in more non elma related stuff.
- Outdoor chill area would be max upgrade for next year. Outside there were often random mans standing or walking around a bit lost :) The porch of the sleeping house would kinda fit the requirements but is 30m too far away.
- Outdoor pee place also seemed a bit far away at first but I got to like the Quick Round around the house.
- Only on the last day I tried the outdoor shit place and it was amazing!
- It's always cool to see how peaceful and respectful people are, despite being together in a somewhat tight space with limited facilities.
- New barn hoyloft is fucking nice! So much more room and just a beautiful spot.

Amazing week with amazing people. I guess you could even say "that's amazing". So many things went right, i'll name a few in no order:
- the pre-fem work seems to have been incredible, super thanks for everyone involved
- basic bitch. (knowers know)
- arranging finman challenge was really great, thanks everyone who played! Hope to see (or arrange) similar stuff in the future.
- bear secret of course
- new place for fem with more space and all that. The house kinda being further away from the hayloft was great as well, good sometimes to separate yourself from the action.
- all the amazing conversations and ideas developed during fem
- Zweq and Stini and a few others for programming talks and motivating me to do more of it
- AKB coming all the way from Australia and us doing well in the couples contest
- all the amazing contests with so many great ideas; bullet, couple, onion cup, apple cup to name a few

I'll make sure to be there next year, will take first priority over just about all of the things that could happen at the same time.

I see from the schedule that there was FEM quiz on Monday. Too bad I missed it. Is it possible to see the questions/answers somewhere?

The meeting was also a bit different from the earlier ones in the sense that I didn't organize anything myself. If I come next year, I try to arrange some kind of small contest. I realized that for me it's more rewarding to arrange something than just hang around.

First FEM where I brought my PC and it was totally worth it, even with walking to trains with heavy bags.
First FEM where I didn't get drunk once, and felt much better in social environments the whole week.
First FEM where I cooked some proper foods and even cooked for bene wowsers.
Second FEM where I helped with arranging and cleaning.
Third FEM where I shared some cool replays.
Didn't win any contests but who cares. Didn't get any WRs but who cares. Weather was cold but who cares.

Random good moments: Was eating with Finman when 2 flies started fucking on the table.
Port Royale card games with Antti bene jon Kopaka Markku.
Tim Tams, Koala candies, bison burgers and Onion beers.
Elämän vesi liiteri and vitun hyttyset saatana.
Amazing view at swing bench thing and good talks with Finman.
Guest book.

It was an amazing place and I can't imagine the work it took to make it all possible, so thank you once again NoM, other o-matics and others who showed up on weekends and before the event!

Report coming soon, but meanwhile here's the final attendance list. I thought it might be worth updating the first post (here and in other modern-era FEM topics, where I'll post soon), as they're probably the best reference for attendance for those interested in the future (certainly better than a spreadsheet on my hard drive). I'm 99.9% sure that the last 3 years are complete, and the previous 4 are as complete as could be (used FEM threads, group pics, and asked attendees).

FEM was absolutely awesome, and I'm so happy pawq pestered me into going. It was great seeing old faces again, and seeing many new ones as well. A few highlights for me:

Arriving the first day and seeing how good it looked
Bear secret, mind blown, Tricks Abound rec was insane, AI recs were insane, and limpsy was fucking impsy insane
Consumation of carrots
Meeting Zero's sleepwalking roommate
Learning how to speak Finnish from roope
Zweq climbing the tree
Looking at fonts
Solving the crossword
Remaining loyal to Arstotzka
"Fuck everything at once," "fuck me always" and "why is Elma a game???"
Orcc's megapro blindfold prowess
Showing off the one song I can play on guitar
Enigma WR, what the fuck
Bullet Train
Going on great adventures, much to terb0's dismay
The Precarious projector rig
Tim Tams

And a big thank you to nick-o-matic for going above and beyond to make this happen!

Couples Contest 4 was huge fun to organise and spy! Even though I had to make most levels myself (thanks to Stooq for the first two!), which with my very low level-making self-esteem was a bit of a challenge, I think it turned out great, as I saw pretty much everyone had huge amounts of fun :) And, to my great pleasure, all the couples participated in all events! Stoke! And of course huge grats to AKB & finman for absolutely nailing it! Summary below :)

The battles can be found on fem.elmaonline.net (FE19CC1a-FE19CC4b)

Round 1 (1a & 1b): online multiplayer
Round 2 (2a & 2b): relay (switch at keyboard when picking an apple)
Round 3 (3a & 3b): co-op (one player controls gas, brake & volt, the other controls volts)
Round 4 (4a & 4b): blindfolded (driver cannot see the level until battle ends, guide can use any verbal instructions, but with no physical contact with the driver)

final results:

Thank you pawq for the list of kuskis! I will use it below for my FEM2019 report. :) This took a while to type up and I'm sure there is much more that I could write about, but I wanted to just say some things before I forgot and got lost in the business of life once more.

  • adi Image
    - It was incredible to watch you live playing 1hrTT and battles. The Limpsy04.rec you had was incredible, and your performance in many of the contests was jaw-dropping to watch. Really nice to meet you in person!
  • Antti Image
    - Really nice meeting you Antti: you always had some fun things to say, even if you were sneakily tricking us into drinking the cheapest drink from the Alko store
  • bene Image
    - What can I say? Unbelievable to see you simply drive a world-class time in Freefall like it was nothing, and also mega-mega-thanks for bringing not only your Swedish Fika Stout (fantastic beer!), but also a couple of Swedish beers for me to take back to Australia. You are very kind and generous and I will make sure to report back to you with my reviews. You had the laugh of FEM: it was simply amazing! I really hope to see you again in future!
  • danitah Image
    - Thank you so much for helping compile the results of the Bullet Train: your quick work on that, along with organising the playlist and generally helping out is greatly appreciated! Every time I looked over at you playing Warm Up my eyes just boggled at the precision of the wheel pops and carefully calculated moves. Watching your 13:86 rec just after you made it was totally sick too! Super nice to meet you.
  • Fanatico Image
    - Very nice to meet you at first at the smoke sauna: enjoyed our little conversations sitting on the platform and sweating!
  • finman Image
    - Playing the Couples Cup with you really revealed your sick skills, which are seriously impressive! It was also very fun to spy you in different battles and contests. Always enjoyed talking with you man! I think you may have converted me to 144hz...
  • Haamu Image
    - We didn't get to talk much, but you always seemed like such a happy dude! Maybe next time we catch up more. :)
  • igge Image
    - Really nice to meet old Elmasite member in the flesh! Although we didn't talk too much, I enjoyed when we did. I really hope to see you around in future!
  • insguy Image
    - So incredible to have another opportunity to meet with you: even if it was only for a few days! Totally infectious and cool personality, as always, and I was very happy to see your reactions to the sculpture park. Loved your levs for the ins TT: they were so fun to play! See you next time!
  • jblaze Image
    - Sick, sick playing. Beer Battle perfection, and a formidable opponent to anyone in seemingly all battles you played. Very nice to meet you in person (along with all the Polish kuskis!), such a nice guy!
  • jon Image
    - There were some really great moments spying you for Bullet Train among other things, and watching you do a little saveload training on the Life pack. A really positive force!
  • Kopaka Image
    - Hard to believe I was at the same meeting as you, such an important figure to the Elma scene, and a total pleasure to be around.
  • Kortsu Image
    - We didn't really get to meet properly, but hopefully next time we can talk more. :)
  • Lousku Image
    - Very fun guy! Your battling was at a really high level, and you are a fun guy to be around.
  • Luther Image
    - You must be one of the most interesting and engaging personalities I have ever met: so incredibly personable and hard working. What you achieved with nom before the start of FEM cannot be understated: many, many long days of work that seriously paid off and culminated in an amazing meeting that I won't soon forget. I can't wait to bump into you again!
  • Markku Image
    - Consistently amazing playing, and very nice to talk to. I appreciate all the help you gave in setting up the parameters for the Bullet Train (even if the FEM server struggled a bit), and for generally helping around. Really great guy!
  • Mielz Image
    - Still hard to believe the new Enigma WR run, and the sick cubing! I will definitely try hard to beat you in Beer Battle next time, even if you were a fair number of points ahead this time. Lovely to meet you!
  • mr Image
    - Unreal to see another old-school player who I only knew about from the early WR tables on elastomania.com! Sick helmet and sicker keyboard. :D
  • nick-o-matic Image
    - It cannot be understated how much of an effort you have put into all of this! Without your help, we would not be here, and for that I am extremely thankful. I had an incredible, unforgettable time seeing the beauty of Finland, thanks to you and dad-o-matic's help. The Savonlinna Opera Festival was amazing and I would love to return again. It was a privilege to have the opportunity to see the plentiful forests and lakes (and occasional Orthodox graveyard) in our adventures, along with some of the wildlife (moose), abandoned properties, and the sculpture park. It was great that you were able to compile such a thorough list of things to do in Karelia, and I sincerely hope to see more next time I am there! You should feel proud of what you (with the help of some others) have achieved here, and because of your efforts and success I will try my hardest to go to the next FEM! Thank you! :D
  • Orcc Image
    - Totally nice guy, great to be around and always happy! Nice to meet you in the flesh!
  • pawq Image
    - We meet again! Thank you for organising the Couples Cup, which was so much fun! All of the levels were great for the cup, and everyone obviously enjoyed themselves. You had some seriously sick performances and impressive balle times, including amazing nitro style acrobatic ring hang time. Very easy to share the room with yourself and jblaze: I hope I wasn't too much of a disturbance coming in and out. See you around! :)
  • Ramone Image
    - Wherever you were, your personality filled the room and you were truly the heart of the meeting in many ways. I find it very hard to imagine such a meeting without your presence, and really, really hope you will be there in 2020 with some more awesome TT cups, levels, sick playing, and general awesome attitude to Elma and everything! Ramone quote of FEM for me: Random kuski: "Good mid!" Ramone: "This whole level is a fucking middle!"
  • roope Image
    - Very fun to be around, and very sick rides in many levels. You seem to be able to pull of some sick styles easily, which is awesome live!
  • Ruben Image
    - Whenever we talked you were always smiling or laughing and generally having a great time. It was really great to hang out and even hear you play some guitar. Always nice to talk music with any mans, so it was a pleasure to meet!
  • Spef Image
    - Very cool mode to meet the amazing Spef! You were one of the top kuskis to spy and you seemed to be able to always drive some miraculous times and perform consistently well. It was interesting to hear about your other interests like chess and Rubik, even if it's not what you are currently höyling. Really great guy!
  • Stini Image
    - Your work with the Elma AI was really crazy to watch! I had wondered for a while if such a thing was possible, but you were able to go ahead and actually create such a thing. Incredible. Loved our talk about beers and such, and I really hope to make it to the Craft Beer Weekend in Tallinn myself as well (with my other beer-loving friends). Along with Spef, meeting you was almost like meeting a celebrity after seeing you both on TV for cubing. :)
  • talli Image
    - Always with a big smile on your face, it was great to meet such a crazy-skilled kuski who has been there for so long, a real battle titan. It was great to meet both you and Fanatico for the first time at the smoke sauna.
  • terb0 Image
    - Thank you for your generous donations to FEM! I used one of the laptops you donated, along with a screen (and some beer barrel space). It was awesome fun hearing your comments in Beer Battle (among other things!) and you were just really fun to be around for all the time your were there. Really awesome!
  • veezay Image
    - Perfect music choices at all times, great sense of humor and you somehow kept driving random unbeatable sick battle times! Still dunno how the hell you have such good time on Tutor01.lev... Did I mention great fashion sense? Nice helmet for sure. :D So good to have a DJ there, and very fun to throw random comments back and forth in EOL too.
  • vender Image
    - We didn't really get to meet, but hopefully next time I will talk more with you. :)
  • zebra Image
    - Hard to believe I met the levmaking master Zebra finally! Thank you for your help in setting up: the tables were perfect for FEM and it is a great coincidence that you live close to nom! Really loved your levs every time. As Ramone would say: Zebra levels have got some sick unbelievable flow. A true mystery of the Elma universe!
  • Zero Image
    - I finally met you, you awesome weirdo(.lev), and still cannot believe how Elma seems to run through your veins, almost effortlessly. Finally putting a face to the voice was really crazy, but you were consistently fun, funny, and a great joy to be around at all times. Life pack was really fun to höyl at those times there wasn't a competition or event, and the last level was pretty touching. :) Keep bringing your vital energy to the Elma scene! Let's meet again soon.
  • Zweq Image
    - The name Zweq has always seemed to me to be some imaginary legendary player that couldn't possibly exist. Watching you play IRL was quite unbelievable at times, especially as you seemed to have some really crazy style ideas that you were able to pull off with a crazy consistency. Such an unbreakable focus too. It was great to finally meet you! Such a friendly guy, I hope to see you again at the next FEM!
Overall, just an unforgettable meeting and 100% worth going! I am so glad I took the leap to travel to Finland, and will make every effort to attend again in 2020 for the 20th anniversary of Elma! Thank you everyone for making me feel so welcome and for making FEM such a friendly and fun place to be. Really heartwarming to see such soul in the Elma scene—it makes me realise just how special this community really is. I hope to see you all again soon! :)
