Unofficial patch 1.11h

Post by Hibernatus »

Hi,
I've just made a patch for elma.exe. I'm sorry, i should have thought about it earlier. It was much easier than making alovolt.exe.
This patch adds the "Merge Replays" function (a bit safer than nitro, and with the randomizer enabled).

And of course it adds the alovolt. You need to run alovoltpatch.exe to change the keys (close elma before patching, otherwise elma.exe will be write-protected).

So now alovolt works under Win98 and you don't have to spread nitro (which helps the cheaters).

What's cool when you use my patch instead of nitro is that you play, beat WRs and merge replays with the same program :)

And of course i made it with elma 1.11a.

/edit: Final version, with a funny feature for watching replays 8)
 http://membres.lycos.fr/realathlon/pv/elma111h.zip

Also, if you want to merge recs you can use this old program of mine:
 http://membres.lycos.fr/realathlon/pv/recmerge.zip

And don't forget to play my across lev pack ;)
 http://213.237.35.1/acrossdk/

Hmm what could i advertise else? :)
AloVolt tool for WinXP users who are scared by patches:
 http://membres.lycos.fr/realathlon/pv/Alovolt_.zip
51 flowers in a lev to let you make multi-end levs:
 http://membres.lycos.fr/realathlon/pv/flowers2.lev

I think that's all, folks. 8)

Have fun

There will come a newer and updated version of this patch which I'll upload to Moposite with a full explanation. So download now only for testing.

Hib: is randomizer really needed (I think it's very useless) if it's about the size of exe. Where are the "Help" and "Demo"? Without those it won't be an official upgrade :/.

hmmm came here to put the link back, but i see it's now useless :)
i renamed it because abula asked me for a small update.
about the Demo and Help functions :
"Demo" has been replaced by Merge Replays and it's useless. The code is still in the exe though.
"Help" was a cool place for putting my code, so i shrinked it by making an "About" screen instead.

Hi,
This is an update.
Now the alovolt key is disabled when you don't play.
Alovoltpatch.exe is better (checks the CRC and displays error messages).
It would be a final version if i didn't add that new feature (see elma1.11h.txt)...

 http://membres.lycos.fr/realathlon/pv/elma1.11h.zip

jcl: Please mail me your .rec file. You'd better mail me when you see a bug anyway.

I thought this one was..? Hib will be away one month or something now. Maybe we hear about him before.

However I know what dz meant. Alovolt doesn't work for him anymore. Or what, dz? I get internal errors when trying to play Circuitous or Shelf Life. Only those levels.

dz, Abula, eyals. You are all wrong. This patch works perfectly.
I guess dz didn't update alovoltpatch.exe, and eyals used alovolt.exe instead of the patch.

Well anyway, here is the final version.

 http://membres.lycos.fr/realathlon/pv/elma_1.11h.zip

Read the TXT! I wrote a big one this time.
I'm going on holidays for 3 weeks (from Monday), but anyway i didn't plan working on it anymore.

Hmm, i'm glad i came back to read this thread, because i *must* reply to your post dz...
The "delay" can be calculated, depending on the processor you have. lets see... about 1µs? Hmm i think your problem is that the alovolt key is too far from your finger... You just need to get used to it.

i miss the randomizer. if you eat or drink something and can´t play it´s great to just start the randomizer and relax a bit. it´s like a movie you don´t have to do anything just enjoy :)

Well you can still use it on the old elma.exe, no?

If you didn't screw up and deleted it 8O

No problem this either because you can always download the elma.exe again of all patches (1.0, 1.1, 1.11, 1.11a and 1.11h).

Hib.. can you make a multiflower level with only 10 flowers? just so i can put other objects on the lev...

(or can you change the object maximun to 100 ? (or somthing))

can you put the replay name on the display when watching replays. (If the replay is on random, you don't know who is driving...)

As I said, it is already possible to pause elma by SoftIce or a similar program. I just want that everyone have this possibility... I am using SoftIce to pause elma for more than a year now and never thought it as an opportunity to cheat. Just there are times, when you want to pause, not necessarily when you drive good, but when you play a huge lev and don't want to start over...

Pausing will take the thrill of it out a bit i think... the point is, you're 2 minutes through laby pro, you've been going so fast and you're sweating like hell, and you have to keep going... ohh, the adrenaline! A pause option is a terrible idea.

i dont see a pause function as an advantage if u play normally, basically it can save u when u r disturbed from real life happenings. mobile phone games have pause, and when i play snake it's usually hard to get into the rythm when i resume, but bla blabl u get the deal or whatever fuck your mama

If you introduce a pause function it makes it easier for people to create a "save game" thing, if you know what i mean. people will find a way to make the computer remember the position... i reckon.

It's already possible to save your games with right software. I don't think a pause function helps someone any more, coz usually you have to freeze the application to save anything.

ps.: I never tried to save game, just think it's possible

Elma 1.11h Karlis edition

Post by Hibernatus »

New version available.
2 keys for braking (ask Karlis why)
1 alias for Esc

 http://membres.lycos.fr/realathlon/pv/elma111h.zip

Ideas i got/heard about:
- Speedometer: Very good idea. Maybe it's impossible, maybe it's easy (depends on how the time display was programmed).
- Auto-save best rec: Possible, but not a priority.
- Pause: I think it's a cheat.
- Filtered replay list for each lev (play a replay from the menu where you choose "Play again", "Replay", etc.): Possible, but requires too much space in the exe file.
- Left alovolt: Would be fun, but i'm afraid WR updaters wouldn't see it every time they check a rec, so i won't make it because it could become a cheat. Anyway, it may be a hard patch to make.

You have to know two things:
- I don't know enough about exe files to expand them. And since elma1.11h is almost full (backward replay takes a lot), any of those features would need a new exe or removing another function.
- I don't play elma and i don't have much spare time. So, because of a lack of motivation, don't expect me to work on a new patch soon.

If someone has the skills and the time to make a new patch or improve mine, feel free to contact me and i'll help you.

yay so its the size of exe file, which means not many more features coming

after quick test it works, though i would like to have faster backward replay, since backwarding is almost any time just a mean to look something again, and u want to get to it as quickly as possible
