We DON'T want a new version of Elma!!

Post by sierra »

I really would hate to see a new version of Elma, because all that time I'd spent hoyling would be pretty much wasted. And I've only been playing for seven months, so god knows how it would feel for those of you playing for several years. I remember max Across legend in #across yesterday describing how elma "broke his heart", and I can see easily how that would happen to me if Elma 2 was made. I know I'm not alone in these feelings, so if you DON'T want a new version, speak now! I'm thinking of emailing Balazs to tell him these feelings, maybe if enough of us did this he would stop.

So say it with me: We DON'T want a new version!

i also don't want any new world wars, and i don't want any chocolates with raisins. also say no to most new movies because they suck, and same with tv shows. and most importantly, no new porn!

It's not we don't want, it's you don't want.

I want a new version.

Sierra sure the guys who have played this the longest have hoyled the most and will feel the biggest "waste" _BUT_ as you say you have only played this 7months (really not much at all, several years are needed to explore elma to the fullest) so it's ofcourse these same guys who have hoyled the most that are longing the most for something new. Pretty lame spur of the moment opinion I kinda think you have, because you have been playing really hard for tt the last months.

It's kind of like spending ages writing a physics book, and then to hear somebody else is researching something which would disprove all of your theories. You become obsolete, and it would be too much hassle to begin work again for the new theories.

hmm if you see the time spent on hoyling as waste of time maybe you should think over if you still think elma is fun...

why would the time used on elma be wasted if elma 2 comes? I dont consider elma as a waste of time mostly, but I just dont understand why would the elma suddenly be waste of time in the case elma2 comes, isnt it waste of time anyway, you know what I mean?

Looking forward to Elastomania 2.0 and whatever is the price of the game im paying 50e, just because I didnt buy across and elma

WTF waste of time sierra? Playing elma is fun. If you play it for other reasons, there's no point to play at all. That's what I think.
And for the guys who rule the elma-wr's and stuff(and don't want a new version), you rule the top score-shiat now, so people has respect for you and all now. If you're good enough you'll rule the elma2 statshiat too, so don't worry!

We wan't a new version of elma!

It's impossible to compare Elma and Elma2 before you have seen them both! Elma and Across are very similar to each other. When Elma came out, if you were skilled Across-player, then you were already good in Elma, too.

I'm really waiting for Elma2 and I will very likely quit playing old Elma.

Maybe you guys consider Elma differently to me. I think of Elma, or more specifically, my stats, to be like an ongoing work of art. Everyday I open Elma and add a few brush strokes. And as far as I'm concerned, with 43 mins tt the painting is nowhere near finished. If Elma 2 comes along, my painting will just look stupid. Even if I was to keep going and one day make 39 mins tt, nobody would care anymore. And I love this painting too much to begin painting another one.

I want just a whole new (about 100-200 levels) bunch of NICE ALP-like Internals. They have to be spread by Balazs "The Official" otherwise no-one plays it ^_^. Physics are to be the same or else I quit.

These are the others that made levels for Elasto Mania. Meaning that Balazs made probably near half of the levs.

I dont understand you guys, I just totally agree with sierra.
Many ppl want new internals, but why? there's thousands of level packs that you can play if you're bored to internals. OLP was supposed to replace internals and what a surprise: it was a total flop.

Imagine yourself as 100m sprinter that is aiming for Olympics: year after year you have practised to run faster and faster on that straight 100m lane and you have became quite good...

...then suddenly some guys come: "Hey, this track is kinda boring, lets change the official 100m track, lets make it totally curvaceous and lets add some ice and mud on the way!!1 "

HOW WOULD YOU FEEL?

Maybe im just afraid of the new version, but atm I feel like im not going to play Elma2 if it has new internal and/or changed physics

I have eternal project(54wrs) with current internals and im not finished yet.

exactly, see, this the critical point. maybe some of you have achieved all you want from Elma, you don't think you can improve anymore or you're no longer challenged. I don't feel this way; I still have so far to go. A new version would just totally screw it up :( ...

Lets think this. some one keeps you in a cage. you get one carrot every day.
then someone comes and tells you. you can get out of this cage. and eat different things every day of the week. And, whenever you want to you can still return to cage.

There are thousands of competitions left which we could play before we need a new verion, in my opinion. WCup5, then some totally new ones which we are planning etc. All those will be crushed if the next version will be done. There is another solution, let's keep Elma1 scene and have own community for that. But I think that will be done only if Elma 2 sucks. But then again: I like Elma more than Across.

I must talk to Balázs if he just bothers to listen to us. He should only improve the stats and usability etc. and not change the physics / idea. I think new levels are needed. Of course it's very cool with stats with current ones but seriously we are reaching the limit soon. Hopefully the new levels won't be bad ones... Maybe they should be designed by the old editor which was used to make levels to Across 1.0 (it's not a public editor).

"Why not keep playing Elma?"

Of course I would, for a while. But the fire would be gone. BarTek made some Across wrs some weeks ago, told in #across and nobody barely even gave a ":-)". Imagine I told somebody "yesh i finally beat you in TT", they would simply say "so, who plays Elma anymore?".

Never change a winning team.

What about:

IF elma 2 was made with the same physics as elma 1..

and there were new internals, but also an "old internals" function, where you could import your stats from elma 1 ?

I like SveinR's idea. There could be two level packs, old and new. You would have total times of each and also compined one. Rok!

you have wasted your time since you started playing and working on yout tt. people seem to only be competing against each other in order to be thought as being good, even though most of the time they don't even enjoy what they are doing.

no matter what sierra, there will come a time when you know it was a waste of time - with or without a new version.

i wouldn't mind something new.
