I think his idea was a bit bigger than that. Like "server reserved for 36 mins clubers until tomorrow" Or "Server reserved for top ten at ballelma statistics page until tomorrow"
WTF??! close down main server from the public? who the fuck gains on something like that? Get a private server you mofo...
Yes, that's exactly what I meant! Dude, read the sht before you draw conclusions..................[8]
If this comment was serious, then no: you did not say anything about private server, you said something aobu reserving the server? Now the same thing.
I think it's a good idea to rsrv the server for top 10 (or so) at ballelma site for just some hrs per month. This gives you a goal to reach for. More goals, bigger motivation.

Nah, I think that's a bit useless. Even if I were in that top 10 it's very unlikely that I happen to be here when the reserved hours are here. Also it would ruin the best thing in battles: they are easy to attend, you can start playing and stop playing whenever you want. Private servers may be better idea when we have over 100 players or so.

Another thing is kind of bigger battles like the one life cup which 8-ball tried to arrange. It wasn't a success and there weren't as many players than one could expect. Dunno why, because the idea was nice. I'm pretty sure there will be bigger battles, like mopobattles, sometime in the ballelma. But they don't need any special ballelma settings. And I don't know how much they would gather ppl, if any. It depends on the arranger and the stats. Maybe because of the good ballelma stats, there won't be any need for bigger battles with their own stats.

I guess advertising plays there a role too.
Many belma players don't even visit moposite or #ballelma, it's really hard to reach those people.

About the event-organizing, we have moderators almost all the time, so it is not that hard to arrange anything with a little help.

New feature suggestion: When new battle starts, balleserver would paste level link to IRCnet. Also when the battle ends, balleserver would paste replay link to IRCnet. This way, I can check winning replays even though I had to leave suddenly in the middle of the battle. It would also be fun to collect levels and winning replays for watching.

Few suggestions:
-It should be fun to put One wheel in kind of balles.
-It should be useful to download LGR used in the levels. (Already did for levels and replays, why not for LGRs?)
-It should be nice to put the number of apple collected during the play. If it was created before, WCup512 could be easier.

no one wheels
lgr too big comparing to lev/rec
no need for apple counts

I just came up with a simple idea. I'd like to have an option that for everyone who's playing my battle the view is fixed on me, so that when the battle is on, everyone has a big hassle keeping focus on their own bike. Ofcourse this only works if either enough apples or a small level is the case. And ofcourse I then cannot compete, I just drive around a bit to mix up other's concentration.

Doesn't seem that hard to do, I guess?

Ofcourse you can die, that's the pure fun of it, it must so, that you get easily distracted. Only a pity for those who don't see others, but I surely think people will like this one once in a while.

A suggestion -
A button so that we can see the chat history. I hate being in the middle of the chat, then being distracted, and when i look at the chat again, there's new messages. Don't know if this already is invented, but it would be max if I could press a button and see like the past 25 lines of chat, instead of the 5 or whatever. Simply just make it like that you can switch between 5 and 25 chatlines if you could. Would be a lot helpful, at least to me.

Hehe, we actually played this back in bs9, though it was based only on trust. You get dizzy and/or annoyed kinda soon, not funny.

I think it might be a bit fun, I'll try today perhaps myself. Oh, and I posted this in the wrong thread, so:

If it's not hard I'd like an applecounter/timer of other players while spying them.

Why does my computer fuck up when I press F4 to download a balle level?

When I do it, my computer just gets stuck, and I have to restart - ctrl+alt+del, alt+tab and the such will not do.

Any idea?

How long do you wait? Try waiting a little longer, elma freezes while it downloads the level, it shouldn't take more than a few seconds though, except if you have very low bandwith.

Might be something else though, not sure.

possible updates : (some of them will be done in next version)

1. fix bug with clearing top10 - no idea why it doesnt clear sometimes
2. if you finish and die at the same moment, time should be taken (if it's not 1st frame) - very unprobable situation but already happened once
3. i will prolly add bugtimes accepted checkbox
4. link to lev/rec in irc
5. http stuff instead of ftp
6. add flag for starting balles for users which will be default off for new registered users
7. hide tables when got disconnected, otherwise it will stay there forever
8. try to increase size of rec file to atleast 30 mins - wont be possible to view longer files in old elma
9. apple collecting balle - wont be possible to see rec
10. cooperative multiplaying
11. see no of apples taken / time of observed kuski
12. see time of last apple taken - for uberhoylas

i got an idea ;D
the belma chat coulda be visible on some extra chanel like #batelmachat or whatever so tah can be logged&browsed easily, the channel would be +m all the time or sumtin so that talking would be not possible
prolly easier than 25lines chat, cuz once mila said its just one line or sumtin
just a thought, not really crucial for me, but i admit its irritating when you are in the middle of a run and at the same time ppl are taliking bout sumtin interesting or funney :P

ps
what about

I thought so at first too, but after a little thinking I realized that I like it more like it is right now (he who logged on first is on top etc). This way I try and stay online for as long as I can just to get to the top ;)

LAN doesn't differ from the online version, you would just need the server side program.

Ye but it runs with some sql and ftp server afaik. So you have to setup that before. Thats kinda complicated I think.
And the one whos server should be able to play. So he must run Server and Belma.. dunno if thats possible without lagging.

just to remind current status and possibilities :

things already done for next version:
1. whole server code rewritten from the scratch to nice one:)
2. remove possibility to start qwquu levs
3. position in balle in status text
4. private chat ingame
5. 'hide times' checkbox for startballe

things that are planned for the next version :
1. fix bug with clearing top10 - sometimes nat work
2. link to lev/rec in irc
3. fix bug with finishing and dying to killer at the same moment
4. http stuff instead of ftp
5. add flag for starting balles for users which will be default off for new registered users
6. hide tables when got disconnected, otherwise it will stay there forever
7. do non-case sensitive bmps, levs, nicks
8. rewrite client code to nice one
9. observing list of kuskis in alphabetical order

things planned for some future version :
1. increase size of rec file to 60 mins
2. cooperative multiplaying
3. apple collecting balle - wont be possible to see rec
4. see time of last apple taken - for uberhoylas

things not decided if it will be done or not (problems with teh, or might be a bad idea..)
1. add bugtimes accepted checkbox in startballe
2. see no of apples taken / time of observed kuski (or of you)
3. LEV generator (for only moderators)
4. battles with 'last time taken'
5. 9-lives battle (or other number)
6. if you type chat or observe, not die until you stop observing/typing
7. do non-us keyboard conversion
8. 24htt setupable for only one kuski so others can play normal balle

lev generator ez do like kd and I thought, make some ez 1000 different vertex styles that generator will randomly pick 10 or so and connect them. but I guess its ultra hard, but if anyhow code is ever made for teh, ez hire couple of people to make more vertexes . this version would be kinda similar to diablo2.

or some other version, something like: have same start always(some bike length start platform), define values(rules) ho is the next vertex, angle liek from 45 to -90 degrees (45 too hard uphill?), then a length of teh vertex(dont ask me how to measure), say 10-20 "units". then next vertex exactly same shit up to some 30-40 vertexes. ending would always be the same also, bike length platform or sach. there you have flat track style level that is different each time. prolly need some other rules too, to nat go out of borders or sach, nat - angle more than 3 times a row.

then ez fill the boring time between no balles and offhours

I like the diablo2 idea and I'm really interested in writing such a program.
I can start writing immediately if no one else has begun.
But I just can use C# so .NET Framework must be installed.
I ez start some testing and if it sux I break it off ;)
