You do know that internals can be played without having a battle on in them? It's just useless to battle them, because nobody cares about the results

Its a way for people to have a "reason" to improve their times.. externals can be played without battles aswell, and I don't see why people would care about the results for them either.

I don't see what that reason would be. Externals can and SHOULD be played outside battles. Battle levs don't fit into external category and they're even further from internals. Winning a battle in an unplayed lev is always nice since nobody has the advantage, which is not the case in internal lev battles.

just to cover orcc, so the discussion doesn't have to go any further: battle is about a fresh lev where everybody is on the same line. So looking at the definition of a battle, an internal battle wouldn't be a real battle, more like a touch check

personally i dont want even most of balles to be >20mins, because simply i wouldnt find time and patience to play them all. although its nice to play a looong lev, for example from Ramone, because there is just time to hoyl teh pretty much. anyway i think that there should stay some short, quick, hoylas, to just entertain ppl and help to rest.

Finally I managed to patch vsync off ingame, at least somehow: the screen flickers annoyingly in full screen mode, but works fine through d3dwindower. Try it if you want. Make sure resolution in belmaConf and window size in d3dwindower are the same. Got rid of kb delay at least... but I don't like windowed mode that much (lower fps, ...).

Ok I tried that exe too and it has the same flickering (on Vista) as in my patch :/ so I guess it's not up to belma's code, but windows/drivers... dunno

THE FLICKERING IS GONE IN FULLSCREEN MODE TOO!!!

Device manager ---> Display driver ---> Ati Radeon 3100 Graphics ---> Update driver ---> No new drivers found

Then, desperately...

PC ---> Scan for hardware changes ---> Device list refreshed. It didn't seem to do anything, but...

Then I tried again: Ati Radeon 3100 Graphics ---> Update driver ---> New driver found ---> Installed

Then... opened belma... selected islands in the sky... and to my HUGE surprise, there was no flickering anymore!!!

In Microsoft forums, I was advised _not_ to use device manager for updating drivers. It seems I'm not going to ask for help from there anymore...

I wanted vsync off... and I got it off. Wasn't easier than this. Now I will not update my display driver in any case :)

Ok, I did one last patch... it's annoying when you can't always see the whole level (that was made with ALE) in editor. I modified one zoom constant and it should display all levs fine now. Minimum zoom was 1.00, now it's 0.34.

Be careful when you make levs with this because checking topology will not tell if the lev is too big, so Elma can crash if you test that kind of lev (but it will always be saved before playing, so it's not that serious). Remember to reconfigure.

Fixed that part now - it'll say now if the lev's width/height is too big, and in that case, Elma won't let you play the lev. ---> http://up.k10x.net/komvuswtgafnm/belma.exe

I tried donga the latest belma.exe smibu posted cause i want to be able to make levs in the internal levmaker, now everytime i go in there the game crashes, but now i can't even start the game, it just flicks a gray screen in 0.01 sec and nothing more ;(

Edit: it was just the resolution that had changed, i forgot those settings was saved in belma.exe, sick how fast i can press play again after I finished a ride or pressed esc now ;o

Thank you for including such a big picture in your post. I don't think any of us would have understood a couple of sentences explaining your problem, or a smaller picture for that matter. Thank you for helping us understand.

I probably wouldn't have understood that with a couple of sentences since I've never seen belma screen like that. Also in this new phpBB version the whole topic doesn't even get fucked from one too wide picture, how great is that!

Only your post goes out of line, and I can still scroll perfectly up and down the page without losing sight on the texts.

Oh and secondly, empty space is less distraction to your eyes than colourful signatures.\

i guess the point here is regular hoyling. when a guy gets one totally lucky run, then fails for another 100 times and gets another even faster lucky run and fails for another 100 times - his balle result will be fail. if someone fails for 100 times, and then begins to finish, regularly, driving better and better times as the time flows - his result will be the last (best) time. only my free guess ;)

edit: one question to any guy who knows solution
Apple - The first player to pick all apples wins, but you don't have to pick all apples in same run.
i think it would be mostly hard to remember which apples have you already taken, will that apples be permanently (till the end of the battle) deleted from the level? or is a fantastic memory needed :s

Mh ok, but you ez could stop after the first or second luck finish. And then you have nothing to do but also can't spy cause you had to go in lev again.. :S
To yours.. I'm quite sure apples won't disappear but I thought that mode is for that kind of lev like "find/reach all secret areas" and there it's not too hard to remember the apples...

Just few words..
One-life, First Finish, Slowness, Survivor, Last Counts, Flag Tag, Apple, Speed, Finish Count, ARE SO FUCKING USELESS THINGS ! :?

"Slowness, Survivor" useless shits, elma is about making best times, not worst ones imo.
"Last Counts" must be really some hilarious joke, or wtf ? I'm not gonna stop playing level after 1 random good time.
"Flag Tag" will be really awesome if 100 ppl online :/
"Apple" pointless kind of pipes. o/
"Speed" there will be a tachometer ? What's the use of doing the top speed ?
"Finish Count" the next ruining of levs, short hoyla levels are nice, but playing just for the most number of finishes ? Isn't it stupid ? Ppl don't have to find any styles, just drive an average one, and play like a loony ?

No offence

I think there will be some limitation to which kind of battles you are able to start. So hopefully those people who are able to start them weird battles will do some good levels and not just spam random shit.
