Just a thought regarding the site and EOL promotion: We all know there are tens of thousands of people who have played Elma but don't know about the online scene and battles etc. It's easy to direct them to elmaonline.net, but on the front page they don't see anything that clearly shows what EOL is. For all they know from seeing the front page, it could be something like the old irc battles. So how about making a simple front page for first-time visitors with a short introduction text and possibly 8ball's trailer embedded (or something)? That would probably prevent people from quickly checking the site and never coming back to realise how goddamn awesome the game actually is nowadays.

1htt stats page just generates an international server error. I assume it is some kind of timeout, as the generation takes minutes

Q1)
Is it possible to make another BMP folder (similar to shirts) for apples, so we can easily see, which apples are gravity-ones? It just sucks that gravity apples are exactly the same color and shape like normal ones. Maybe it's not doable even with another folder, but it would be awesome to see which is which.

It's probably an old idea, but it must be possible somehow :(
btw maybe wrong tropic, dunno.

Q2)
that "invalid table message" is irritating. Is there a way to extend number of seeable kuskis on list?

Wrong topic, this is about site, but anyway.
1: technically possibel sure, but requires changes in the game itself, that would be something for a "EOL 2"

2:
(teh_mila) possibly some bug in teh message when its over 1024 bytes
(teh_mila) it should merge lists from many messages and possibly something gets fucked then

Was just thinking about eol and how cool it is, and what could make the game more fun to use, thought i would share some of my thoughts,

Site problems: im not sure if its just me but on the eol site, i can only veiw basically the "in the now" stats, not stuff from the past. The search function does not work ever for me, the site just stays on loading for hours. I dont know if its my internet connection, the site, the fact im canadian :/ lots of posibility.

Bug or something: that happens to me most frequently when using eol. while in the editor, i will be testing, changing testing, changing ... and then press to play while still in editor the bike just freezes, chat continues, battles continues, i just stuck hovering at start spot. to fix this i press esc, go to warm up drive 2 inches then go back to editor and i can move again. but has happened at least 75 times to me.

Dreams: my hope is that there is a major update for the level editor sometime in the future. most focus is on making the game nicer for driving. I hope one day to see infinite dimesions for map size, at least 100x more polygons, at least 100x more vertices per polygon(<--all this needed due to the newly developed "copy, paste" functions). and a new EOL official lgr that is geared for advanced level design. either pixel masking, or auto poly masking functions. an undo button in the classic editor would be very najz touch :). and super future dreams, group online level editing (GODE), could be a cool home for interesting level design competions, ability to spy editors at work to learn design tricks, etc. many uses.

The thing I want the most right now would be a possibility do an SS run. If the site somehow could check that you only enter the internal levels, in order, once per level, wouldn't that be enough? And also maybe set some time limit in between levels, so you cant go to the editor and xiit or sach?

Maybe hard to do, but I think SS runs in elma would be mega fun))

Well it's not done just like that ;) but it's on to do list
do you imagine it checks automatically, or that you can press some button on site say I wanna start one now (or I started one that and that date/time)?

Maybe button would be nice, so site doesn't have to check everyone's behavior all the time. You tell it you want to start an SS run, and from the second you enter warm up the timer starts?

From the EOL newsletter:

Code: Select all

In other news as has been mentioned other
places but never in a news post, some features on the site has been
temporarily deactivated as they were too heavy on the server with
current code, so this is the reason if something is missing. But the
good news is that closed beta testing of a completely rewritten site
started yesterday.

Something that just popped into my mind, asking now so I know when I get to it: New site will have different urls, so old deep links will be broken, I can make some redirections though, so which are important?

Results for specific battles much used in moponews from mopobattle for example
Specific levelpacks I guess some people link in avatars and what not

Anything else, do people deep link to player profiles for example?

Ok and now I have an axxual question/request. Is it possible for you to make some kind of api for user authentication, something similar to facebook (you can log in / register to external sites with facebook account) ? I would be very interested in using this kind of feature in my projects. It wouldn't have to be anything fancy, just that people would not need to register every time in new cups or other sites. EOL is the most reliable source of user information ofc.

To first post: The former. To second post: The thought has crossed my mind too at some point, that such might be useful, haven't made any thoughts as to how to do it specifically though. So to answer if it's possible, I dunno for sure.

Ok nice. By "not anything fancy" I really mean it. Already now I can very easily make a php script with for example with curl functions, which would just use the eol site login form and check if the logging in was a success. But ofc it is not very efficient and would not do it without permission. So, the simplest it can get is just to make a file where you give the username and password in POST variable, and the file either prints true or false depening whether the provided information was correct. Then ofc you could make it a bit more complex with api keys and what not. But I would be very fine with the solution I first described and I really hope this happens, because it is not hard and as I said it is already possible but not in the nicest way.

When I search for my battles...

Code: Select all

Started	Name	Designer	Winner	Time
22:03:28	orkalev Chris Sick_Mambo	00:10,00
21:51:28	Coffin Chris Spef [SPEED]	00:08,71
13:07:04	Citroen Chris Eddi [27]	01:56,42
12:45:21	MotoGP Chris Juish [HHIT]	00:47,03
12:25:00	SpaceY Chris Mielz [SPEED]	00:16,98
The first column doesn't make much sense while searching for battles. It make sense on front page where recent battles from the same day are shown, but in searching I would rather see April 21 2012 22:03 or 04.21.12 22:03 instead of 22:03:28. Also is there any other way to see more than 100 battles other than tweaking the date in search options? Lack of day and month info in "started" column doesn't make it easier.

Nice to see that you can search on country now. just click on dutchflag to see all the dutch guys :).

Things that i dont see in the new version:
- online replay after battle. I did use that feature on my work beceause i dont have elma there.
- the times after a battle for a lev. only see the battle times and dont see the best times ever on a lev.

maybe a bit far fetched/difficult, but would be really cool if there was iPhone and Android mobile ap that linked to the EOL site and I could get push notifications of the lastest battle winners to my phone live as they occur :) obviously it would be a very beisik version of the EOL site with just the key information...

including tabs such as:
Login as your user
"Battle Live" (current battle w/ "real time" times/balle leader updates),
"Leaderboard" (top 100 with stats),
"kuskis" (list of players alphabetically with their respective EOL score),
"level maps" (search levels and veiw their maps for style finding on-the-go[with zoom], able to search/sort/filter levels by designer, show wr time),
"winning replays" (stream win recs right on the iphone, allow searches for veiwing older win recs on the server),
"search" (search sort filter , levels, replays, kuskis, dates)

Possibility but probably near impsy tabs:
"Eol TV" - live stream of current battles, still allowing the ability to watch all drivers, or watch individual kuskis.
"Eol social" - commenting, liking and rating replays and levels

sleak simplified design is key. Ive always dreamed of a way to stay involved updated while im away from computers, and mobile aint going anywhere but being more prodominate. but seriously push notifications of most recent balle win would be so cool :P (time&date, Level&designer, wintime&driver, link to win rec)

maybe my head is in the clouds

Ive always dreamed of a way to stay involved updated while im away from computers, and mobile aint going anywhere but being more prodominate. but seriously push notifications of most recent balle win would be so cool :P (time&date, Level&designer, wintime&driver, link to win rec)

maybe my head is in the clouds
I would neva eva have an eol application on my android. I'm enough fed with elma things at home.

Fixed the problems with login and register.

No zebra just forgot about it again, should be working now.

Far fetched indeed juish, but I like far fetched, after EOL app we are going to space..

(other bugs and stuff are noted and will be looked at later)

Don't know if this has been mentioned yet. After a couple mins browsing the site I noticed something.
http://elmaonline.net/players/Mawane, where it says 'Team SV/Canada/ID: 34', clicking on the flag image links to http://elmaonline.net/players/nation/CA (where it displays nothing) instead of linking to http://elmaonline.net/players/nation/Canada like it should do. It's like this for every user page, where that one flag links incorrectly.
