Ingame replay/level rating?
The rating of battle replays and levels on the site hasn't really been used at all. However as someone (Jappe2 I think) suggested it's possible to add this functionality ingame with some commands in the chat. The site will simply scan the chatlog for specific words and rate the levels and replays based on that. For example you can write "!vote lev 7" or "!vote rec 8", and whatever is written between two battles is used to rate the previous battle. Ofcourse this could cause quite a bit of spam in the chat, so that's why I'd like to hear some opinions. Should we have ingame rating in chat or simply remove the rating feature?

Re: Ingame replay/level rating?
Rating is a great feature, but it's wasted at the moment. No-one goes to the site after a battle to rate a level and consequently because no-one rates levels, no-one else feels obliged to either. If there was a rating feature ingame, i would rate every single battle.

Re: Ingame replay/level rating?
Perhaps it's possible to rate it "hidden" if you type some thing before, or maybe type it to a certain user that's not there, eg. "EOL"
<igge>-><EOL> vote lev 7
<igge>-><EOL> vote rec 9
I have no idea how this would turn out though.

I imagine because this would be clientside, we'd need a patch and therefore coding for this to work.Igge wrote:Perhaps it's possible to rate it "hidden" if you type some thing before, or maybe type it to a certain user that's not there, eg. "EOL"

Re: Ingame replay/level rating?
Yeah that would require update to eol on mila's part so it's unlikely, and private is not logged so typing it to some bot or whatever wouldn't work, which is why I'm suggesting this way.Haruhi wrote:I imagine because this would be clientside, we'd need a patch and therefore coding for this to work.Igge wrote:Perhaps it's possible to rate it "hidden" if you type some thing before, or maybe type it to a certain user that's not there, eg. Re: Ingame replay/level rating?
Then I guess just voting in the chat would be best. 8)

Re: Ingame replay/level rating?
yes, that's a good idea, despite the spam. also both lev maker and winner get immediate feedback

Re: Ingame replay/level rating?
This is the way I tried to suggest this thing on irc. Maybe I just did not tell clear enough I my point was private message rating too or Kopaka forgot about it, does not matter.Igge wrote:Perhaps it's possible to rate it "hidden" if you type some thing before, or maybe type it to a certain user that's not there, eg. Anyway, rating levels ingame is one of these features that are highly wanted for a longer time, lately has been around forgotten though as nothing happened..

Also commands like !winner <insert battle level name here> (you can not see who won a battle online, someone might have beaten the time) and so on would be cool and as much as I understand things (a little amount) having this kind of bot, if it does not itself load server by a lot, reduces the use of server as it has to load less things, in these cases only one thing.. ;o
Re: Ingame replay/level rating?
I think !rec (level) would be kinda cool too, so you can download winning recs from precious balles.

But that's also one of the benefits of not having hidden ratings - people will be able to see if someone just downvotes every level out of spite.

Re: Ingame replay/level rating?
yeah, unanonymity will cause extra drama. Another problem is the people that try to affect the avg rating, for example if someone who doesnt like the avg rating given by other people wants to "compensate" it by giving a 0/10 or 10/10(assuming 0 is the minimum of the scale). Although this is kinda beside the discussion here, I hope ppl understand such ratings should be reserved, I don't remember any 0/10 levs(probably a lot of 1/10, 2/10) and only a few 10/10 since the release of belma. For me a 0/10 would need no-throttle no turn, auto level, killer dodge, speed death, missable apples, unenterable fps holes, gravity apples with false-arrows-type of level to give a minimum. As you see, very extreme cases only should have the extreme rating.
anyway I'd like to see at least a testrun for this system

Re: Ingame replay/level rating?
You could write a bot which is loggin messages and scanning for words or commands like "ratelev 9" or whatever in private chat. The result could been send to a server by the bot.
So you just need the bot and a server the bot is running on. The bot just logs in to eol and waits for messages...
I tested writing a bot on an older belma version and it wasn't too hard. Even more if mila would help

!rec X
!lev X
In ingame chat. Where X is a number from 1-10. You can start voting now. Then I will make the script after some time when we have some data to work with. You can start voting when the battle is over and for the next five minutes (unless next one ends less than 5 minutes after). !rec is for winning replay and !lev for battle level obviously. You can change your rate by voting again during those five mins. You can only vote if you played the battle. Misuse will result in chatbans, votingbans or the like, misuse being changing your voting many times, always voting 1 or 10 for specific designers or in general, voting when you haven't played the battle.

Re: Ingame replay/level rating?
Could rating from all players be defaulted to 5 (or smth) if they don't rate? Discuss.

Kopaka should simply remove the rating feature.
We always rating with words, i dont think need this stuff cuz generate spamming... ( quite annoying to see everybody write numbers..... )

Reasoning: If only 1 man votes and gives lev an extreme rating, average won't be extreme.

Re: Ingame replay/level rating?
But, there will always be many who doesn't vote, so there will be many of those auto 5 votes which means the average will always end close to 5. I see your point ofcourse, and that's why on top rated list (which is gone for now) a level needed some X amount of votes before it was eligable.Lousku wrote:Reasoning: If only 1 man votes and gives lev an extreme rating, average won't be extreme.

Re: Ingame replay/level rating?
I think if your levels have low rating you should be able to improve it by saying hi to everyone. Each hi=+1 to average.

Re: Ingame replay/level rating?
So has this been implemented (this code) or is it still to be implemented?

It's not implemented on the site, no. But the mentioned commands is the ones I'm gonna use, so when I do make it, it can go back in chatlog and find those.Haruhi wrote:So has this been implemented (this code) or is it still to be implemented?

Re: Ingame replay/level rating?
You can now see your own votes here http://elmaonline.net/battles/designer
Filter by year and 2012 and click on rating headline to sort by that for example, to see the ones you have rated highest this year (for gaa nominations)
Top rated levs (by all) will be added later, just wanted to have this ready for GAA, as I thought it was the most useful.
And filter by year doesn't work for those votes that were made on the old site (as in not ingame)
