Yeah but it's surely not that hard to have patching in-game.Xiphias wrote:But you can zoom in in-gameHaruhi wrote:Buffer image probably best. When you select zoom it rerenders image from svg to still look uber quality. I'm presuming you can't zoom in ride ofc (which would be o,o anyway)Ville_J wrote:[...]

Nah, screw SVG. PNG is adequate and much easier.
Re: Do we want a new version of Elma?
Yeah, the SVGs would have to be rasterized anyway first if used in Elma 2.
In case someone wants to use photographs in LGRs, we'll probably support JPGs too in the new LGR format. JPGs are more suitable for photographs; saving a photograph in PNG format takes a lot more space although the picture doesn't look any different. So the supported formats would be PNG and JPG.

I don't understand this. Why couldn't you just render a normal 1000x1000 png of a wheel from svg?Smibu wrote:Yeah, the SVGs would have to be rasterized anyway first if used in Elma 2.
Edit: or maybe you meant exactly what I did, but does everyone else really think it's such a bad idea? I'd love to see some hq graphics with big zoom.

Re: Do we want a new version of Elma?
Well yeah, I meant exactly that: the SVGs would need to be converted to high-res PNGs manually, and then those would be saved in LGR (unless we start using some SVG library that can parse SVGs). It could work like that, too - I don't know if there's some performance penalty involved. Maybe mipmaps could be generated when LGR is loaded.
So if someone wants to create LGR pictures in SVG format, there are certainly no drawbacks in it. It might be even recommended.

Or that.Igge wrote:...animated PNGs?
No pingu, more like animated snow texture in the background (separate from the sky texture).

Would be max for adventure levs! Dunno if it would affect playability a lot, but a Four Seasons series of levs could be really awesome! :)

Animations sound like a good idea (objects are already animated, so why not other pictures?).
Animated pictures should definitely support 32-bit colors too, so GIFs are out of the question. APNGs or MNGs are probably the way to go.
