I'm pretty certain they are, ie that Balazs never intended the bounces to be in the game.

No, he didn't, but that doesn't have anything to do with his intent of the physics of the game.

I don't think you should call things that Balazs didn't intended as a move should then directly called a bug then! He made the physics like that it was possible to have bouncy effects from wheel compression. He intended that. A bounce you get when you brake is a very concentrated on one point bouncy wheel effect. Balazs didn't foresee that this move would be invented, and didn't think of it as a move itself most likely indeed. But for pete's sake should we call it a bug then? I still don't think so.

it has no bouncy effect
it's just numerical bug

It's some kind of overflow, right? Or is there an error in the way friction is handled too? (I mean not a numerical bug, just a logical programming error)

And what's the current definition of a "legal" bounce? I'm curious of how you measure it, because I have a reasonable suggestion myself how to decide if a bounce should be legal

i had some reasonable suggestions, they usually work for big bounces but might show not very good values at hard-to-say replays

bounce is numerical bug of numerical solved diferencial equations with non-liear parts (function of brake effect depended on distance from wall is non-linear (it has if-then) = different in air and on the ground)

I was told that a bug is something that u didnt expect to be in the program

1. Bounces are therefore bugs.
2. Doesn't mean all bounces are illegal.

The formal definition of whether a bounce is legal or not would be the same as this casual definition:

"if it is greater bug bounce than Stini enigma; illegal"

I always thought a bug bounce happened if u saw the animations of the game speed up rather than stay the same prior to the bounce...bug bounces always have that look about them that make it seem that the bike is going faster when it left the ground more than it should...in other words, bugs can be determined by the naked eye...it's not that complicated

Can you give any idea how difficult it would actually be to fix the bug? Just for curiousity..

i'm programming some physics lately for diploma project and there are some problems like this (the problem is when you don't want objects to get to each other and they have high reltive speed and you don't have sample period low enough)

what the hell does this mean. is it like some amiguous programming speak? in purely mathematical terms i don't see how differential equations are 'unstable'. i'm not insulting just curious

As this is the replay sharing thread, I think it might be time to continue discussion on 'normal bounce vs bug bounce' in this original thread:
http://www.moposite.com/mopolauta/viewtopic.php?t=1601

What's interesting is Abula's comment there (it's 1,5 years ago so he might have changed positions now):
Abula wrote:Yes, if you get some bounce many times (mm, over 3..?) it should be accepted I think.
As Stini has gotten the Pipe bounce a number of times, with this view, it should be accepted.
Was it cast for the mass who burn and toil?
Or for the vultures who thirst for blood and oil?

I think Stini would succeed in that bounce with 8/10 tries... But I guess your time is a record :)

I was skimming over some old external levels and found my 'nemesis' level...well the start at least.
Back when I used to play elma for fun (like 2 years ago), I played this lev and just couldn't get through the start...not nemore...I got my revenge!

Lev: http://www.mxb.dk/upload2/radi20.lev
Rec: http://www.mxb.dk/upload2/Revenge.rec

The end is kinda crapola and I've had quicker starts but w/e...enjoy

I wonder if anyone has a replay with a bug bounce to the roof, but then with the gravity upside down, so you fly towards the floor.

Does anyone occur to have such?
