Anyone have any tips for consistently getting a strike using WR style?

Speaking for myself, I started out using a slightly slower approach to the gravity apple to allow for more consistency. Only when I got a decent success rate with that i started allowing for more speed before the apple. I tried to hit the spike that follows the apple as low as possible, and depending on my approaching speed I would use only a tiny push from the spike at the very last second if needed. By hitting the spike low, you will automatically cancel out almost all horizontal movement, and thus only the tiniest, almost non-existent push is required from the spike. If you hit it higher up (by approaching with more speed) everything will suddenly depend solely on the push, and the tiniest miscalculation will cause a miss.

So it depends on what you're going for. If you are going for some 52-54 time you will most likely need to use a slightly faster and harder landing -> apple part, but if you're above one minute at the moment and just looking for a sub-minute time I'd recommend starting out with a slower mid just to get the feeling for the "fall", and then building from there. Once you get an idea of exactly how long the gravity fall is you can start improvising when at higher speeds, and still have a feeling of how hard you need to push.

I'm at work right now so I don't have access to that many recs, but I do have 3 somewhat relevant ones here; one which shows a very slow mid with a low spike, one a slightly faster mid and slightly higher spike, and the last a TAS rec that shows a very high-speed mid and hence a very high spike.

Again, I'm no expert when it comes to bowling, but as a layman this approach worked well for me, and I feel I have a relatively high success rate when it comes to the strike. The pipe however, now that's a completely different story...

the strike is not the problem. its doing the pipe well. to land and keep going with speed you must land as much to the right as possible after the pipe. and getting gravi up apple with rearwheel is good... then just slight push. but doing such a good pipe with consistency is impossible unless you are zweq. if do perf pipe and landing you dont even have to break when land and still can get gravi apple nice.

this is not a level where you do tricks consistant, thats why wr still aint better and thats why no one likes it :)

and even with a good pipe you never land exact same so its hard to practice the strike cause of that. Just give it a few hours. and then a few more. When I played bowling I could play it for hours without getting one single good pipe. (good imo that is)

why this lev (and wr) sucks is for the same reason why gravity ride sucks. That is teh this: multiple parts with flying around in air without any sort of control. If the previous touch with ground was a little bit off, there's nothing you can do.

how many tries it takes for new player to finish this lev in good time?

~(3^n)+1 where n is number of tricks he wants to do (start volt, good brake after apple row, pipe, landing, taking grav appel correctly, proper alignment at bowling apples, banc at landing, final flight)
SUM: 3^8+1=6562 tries. Assuming each try lasts 30 seconds in average, it makes ~2,278 days of pure hoyling :)

Just an idea: after pipe, take grav apple and BOUNCE up from spike. Doesnt matter if front or backwheelbounce.

For pros: If its poss to bounce, its probably better to bounce to the right wall so you can gas on it.

Hmm, gave it a few tries and managed to bounce from the second rightmost spike quite easily and consistently, seems a tad faster, not sure about driving on the wall though as you need to push yourself to the left to take the triangle apples and then you land too much to the left on the ceiling. Too bad I can't try this with Hourglass, as it doesn't seem to work on Windows 8. :|

I use 500fps because with 999fps wheel gets "stuck" more often on the very last polygon "comb".
