Reading this made me smile. :) You guys are like our heroes, so it's heartwarming to hear that you're still in contact and even doing business together. Thanks for an incredible game!

I also liked what you said about the exploration aspect of the game a lot. I think that's a big part of what made the original levels so interesting. Nowadays we have many really skilled designers in the scene, but very few manage to replicate that feeling of adventure the internal levels had. There was something very special about their design.

i don't think that's the bug. whenever you start a level, the timer is already at 0.50 seconds, so we never get to see what happens during 0.00-0.50s. you can see this also when accelerating upon entering a level: the bike already has reasonable speed.

Wow! New version is out! I played the iOS version quite a bit, even though it's different it is still very fun.
I don't have a Windows machine right now but I bought the new game to support Balazs.
Elasto Mania will forever hold a special place in my heart.

Thanks for your work Balazs.

Also, as general feedback to the game:

- design is very cool
- levels are awesome
- the new features are cool, and work for time optimizing, and makes it fun to find new ways to get around them
- it's fun to play the new physics, though as an alternative to elastomania 1

- ElmaWars http://zzz.ink/war - lauta
- Elma Title
- Elma 3D HD (RPG GAME, GAA nominee)

I found it a little problematic to be honest. Monotonous sky with no clouds or anything and lack of grass results in kinda lifeless visuals. The original Elma was more happy and colorful, which I appreciated a lot. Maybe it's just a different style that I need some time to get used to. I guess it's too early to judge.

Comment about the new bike physics for the other players:
Image

The camera is centered in the middle of the bike, whereas the bike's spin axis is lower down near the wheels. So when you spin the bike around, it causes a camera wobble because the camera is not focused on the bike's center of mass.

Secondly, it's very hard to do a front flip or back flip because when you flip upside down, in order for the head not to hit the ground, you need to jump into the air by at least 0.42 bike heights. This is because the head spins much further away from the center and the wheels are much closer to the center. So compared to Elma1, when you do flips, the head moves "toward" the surround objects and the wheels move "away" from surrounding objects. This also means that your head has longer reach than wheels to pick apples in the air (I guess unless you stretch the wheels out maybe)

Because the center of gravity is lower, braking or hitting a wall will make the bike topple less so that might make it easier for new players. However, this also means that the "push" from volting is less strong as there's a smaller axis of rotation. I'm not 100% sure but I think that the initial and subsequent volt strengths have been changed (?stronger initial push and weaker continued spin?)

Alovolt and supervolt are both possible

Edit: Elma 1 comparison

Therefore, to Balazs:

To stop the camera from "wobbling" when you spin in the air, the camera should be focused on the same x/y location as the center spot the bike uses to spin.

As other people said, it would also be nice for there to be an option to have the bike in the middle of the screen with the camera not moving when you turn around, compared to the current setting which has the bike on the side of the screen and the camera moves when you turn around.

Another important improvement is to be able to see what level and pack you are in when saving a replay. Otherwise you have to lose the replay to check what pack you are playing.

I think the other way around. I can't stand Elasto Mania I "high" detail mode, and I never thought it looked good. However, with the new version it looks really nice.

New level files are POT35 (POT06=across, POT14=elma1). So POT35 level files probably have some similarity especially since elma2 editor quite similar to elma1 editor. Probably relatively straightforward to do some type of conversation accounting for objects etc.

I knew that finding the location of the level files on the disk might be a problem. So I wrote some information about it into the WhereAreTheFiles.pdf which can be opened from: Windows Start button -> All Programs -> Elasto_Mania_II_shareware -> WhereAreTheFiles

If you installed the game on drive D, I think you should search all your drives.

Obviously the program should make it possible for you to save lev files to any folder on your computer as every other program do it. But I did not spend the time to change that part of the program, I'm sorry for this.
kuchitsu wrote:I think that's a big part of what made the original levels so interesting.
If I talk about the game, I should talk about Csaba's contribution too. The longer internal levels were designed by Csaba in the original version. He created quite a few levels for the new game too. We have an external level pack of these on the page. Also in the C and D pack there are about 10 levels which have bonus helmet sections. These originally were whole levels made by Csaba. I picked some ot these levels and made them bonus helmet sections within these levels. And I took a lot of smaller parts from Csaba's other levels and inserted them into some of the internal levels.

Thank you Xiphias for buying the game when you cannot use it!

Ribot, you are my man, you like the new physics! Have you seen a doctor lately?

Thanks sunl for the analysis with the pictures.

I will try to put some of these changes mentioned here into the game as options some time. Maybe it will only be January.

Hi Balzas, thanks for releasing new game on pc :> Probably after 15+ even if all bugs are fixed we are still going to play Elma because we are so used to it and we heavily modded it to suit our needs. I strongly reccomend you trying EOL. Beyond what was already mentioned I suggest adding more shirt and bike appearance options. Also once you improve Elma2, you can consider releasing it on one of popular online storefronts like Steam. Good luck :>

I know, sorry for that. When I created the iOS version I removed the arrow control. This Windows version has a lot of things that should be better and a lot of things should be added. I did not have much time making it and the arrow control was not high enough on my priority list.

I understand you will not move away from your carefully perfected turbo tools, that is not problem, I do not expect you. When I created these new versions I did not intend them for you super players. Not to mention the new physics which people seem to be not liking. Nonetheless I will try to put some of the features mentioned here into the game if it is not difficult and when I have the time to do so. Unfortunately I don't know when I will work on the game. Quite a few years have passed after the 2000 release of the game when I created the experimental game with elevators and doors (at that time Csaba made his elevator and door levels for it). Then for about 4 or 5 years nothing happened to the project. Then I created the iOS version. And after a few years this Windows version. Though on this Windows version I only spent a small amount of time.

Let me share my thoughts too.

I played both versions of the game for quite a long period, so I have my opinion in comparison two versions of the game:

Physics
Of course, old Elma has more beautiful and extensive physics. Watching any rec for iOS version of Elma (or Elma 2, I believe, they both have the same physics) you can hardly say "Sick!" or "Impossible replay!". And there're a lot of enormously hoyled runs in Elma 1. Nuff said.

Design
Again, I think nobody will argue about variety of different textures and elements in Elma 1, like blue barrels or trees that can be in front of bike making it invisible. Maybe, creating a level editor would fix this, but all we have now in new Elma is levels on brown desert with a few amount of trees :)

Gameplay
I like the idea of opening doors, mobile elements in the level, cards, teleports, white and colored switches that do something with delay or without it. For sure, Balazs was inspired by Doom game: all these elements are present there (and I got used not to trust such coincidences :D). And because I'm a very big fun of the whole Doom, I really appreciate Balazs for doing it. On the other hand, we lost gravity apples in new Elma, but as I know, most players hate gravity, so, it's not a very bad thing.

Difficulty
Basically, levels in Elma 2 are easier to finish. I guess, level designers had to do levels more plain because of poorer physics. On the other hand, controllers in Elma 2 is harder I guess: no alovolt, no custom keys (??). I think, Elma shouldn't be hardened at the cost of controls, so, for sure, it is another point to Elma 1.

Interface
iElma doesn't have an opportunity of saving recs! It was a disaster and caused some recs to be lost when iPhone for some reasons decided to reload all opened apps, or you just misclicked, or somebody called you during replay launching (the game crashed after that) :) Finally, this function has been added, nice job! Besides that, no multiplayer, no merge replays in Elma 2. Sad smile ;(

Convenience
The only significant advantage of iElma, basically the only reason why I play iElma so much and almost don't play classic Elma recently. First of all, I don't have any Windows machine at all: only iPhone and Macbook, so I don't have an opportunity to play this game. And - no, I can't install virtual machine on my laptop, because of working reasons. Web version of Elma is not the best solution too. Second, I don't have too much free time. And when I'm taking a cab or have a small rest - it's very convenient just to get iPhone from my pocket and make some improvements :) And now I physically can't try Elma 2, I hope, some Mac version will eventually be released.
Anyway, as ribot already mentioned, our recs may help people who decide to play it, set good times.
This is current iOS WR Table, 29 out of 32 current WRs are public and can be accessed from here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... edit#gid=0

Community
I didn't plan to post a long message, but surprisingly it turned out to be quite long :)
So, despite I play iOS version of Elma, I don't think our community really needs this game. Yes, it's nice by its some elements, and it's worth to spend some time on playing it, but it's far not worth it to give up with old Elma. I could double my post by describing my thoughts about it, but nick-o-matic already did this, I 200% agree with his post. Let new World Cups to be happen, new amazing WRs to be performed, new bugs to be found by bene, and new players to come in the scene (maybe through Elma 2 - who knows!!!).

Good luck to everyone!

Just to avoid misunderstanding - official records (like these https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ShkjHs7OkQ ) do not use any cheats, except the alovolt button and possibly different resolution / centered camera. People are able to do comparable times (WRs are under 35 mins and the best players can do 40-41 in an hour) on the first try - you can find single segment runs in this topic viewtopic.php?f=1&t=9027&start=50

The problem with new physics is not (only) that people are tuned to the old one. The problem is, that the gameplay can not (or does not seem to) be mastered - you can not get perfect grip etc. This is what got everybody hooked in the first place - you start to get the control over an uncontrollable bike. The same problem with all elma clones, which makes them not fun after 5 minutes. This applies not only to "pro" players, but to anyone else.

I know it may sound crazy, but if Balázs decided to put effort in the development, he should choose the current EOL. Elma 2 won't feel like Elma 1. Never. Ever. It's rather Motocross Mania or something like that. It is still an enjoyable game, but it won't superseed Elma 1. I am just saying that if he finally came here (we can't say Thank you for that enough) and hears our wishes (admit it: you guys have always dreamed about that for 15+ Years!!!), wouldn't it be better to improve the old game? Yes, I know that there is an ongoing project, but f. that if the original creator of the game will do it for us. It means that of course we shall choose key factors, but I believe we would profit more. Elasto Mania 1.2 Official Release. With all the online functionality. New levpacks, new LGRs, new in-game settings. Even the image quality can be improved. Ghost bike, statistics, separated chat room as a new menu entry, Windows 10 compatibility... It's never too late to continue developing the classic version.

I think this is more about Balazs' profit and not ours. :P I imagine he's a busy grown man not exactly willing to spend countless hours on improving EOL. Maybe if we pay him...

I think coding his own online version would be more appropriate
it would also be a bit easier with a proper source code

I think something like EOL has big untapped potential. There has been little incentive to develop it because it's unofficial and maybe not even legal, and distributing/advertising it has been crippled by this. There are thousands of people who registered on EOL but never managed to install it because it's so convoluted to do it the legit way (dl the original from elastomania.com, then use these and these patches).

So I think there's money to be made with an official modernized multiplayer Elma that could be released on Steam. Tens of thousands of gamers remember loving the game but think it's dead because they don't know about EOL because it has been a bit underground for all these years. And I have no idea how much this kind of casual-oriented Elma can sell, but I believe it would be much more profitable to focus on improving the original that has been proven to be timeless and popular.

99% of old Elma players never hear about EOL because it's so underground. Most who find it never figure out how to install it but we still have hundreds of active players. Fix those issues and it could be thousands.

A Steam release would likely get more people to buy it for 2 reasons: 1. Exposure. 2. Gamers nowadays like having their games in their Steam libraries instead of buying separately from developers' sites. If it's not on Steam, more people will pirate it. Yeah, dumb, but true.

So what I'm suggesting is a huge amount of work obviously (catching up with our online features and then some), but if Balazs is looking for profit, I honestly think making a casual version of the game won't achieve that.

Smibu is already a long way into developing this, but it's all nonprofit for obvious legal reasons, so incentives are low. I wonder if Balazs cooperating with community devs for an official EOL2 or something would be an option..?
then again i don't know anything
maybe easier not to think abouut alöl things thought than not things thought ... or something..=?

Good to read that you are agreeing with me. It is still a dream come true with Balázs' return, the mega experience would be an improved Elma1. (After bugfixing Elma2, but the focus should be the original one.) Many new ppl would rejoin the community and most likely newcomers would appear as well.

It would be great to hear from Balazs if this is a possibility at all.

Here is a table but it is too big and inexplicable

no support-picuters here too :o
and barrels :o

sedge and plantain were nice too

And maybe add something like grass? imo poss make grass consistent with elma2 design.

edit: when I add 2 helmets in lev -> error

balazs:

how much time/work is needed for implement a "classic mode" in elma 2 where you can drive the new levels with old psysichs?

that way newer casual and older players can choose to play the way that feels better for them.

Many levels are not possible without the new features. Major rehaul of the levels would be needed to be able to finish them without moving platforms and/or teleports.

Where I'm at with my thinkings is that there is a good chance I can include the old physics into the game as a next step without spending too much development time. I mean doors, elevators and teleports would be in the game together with the old physics. But I will try to do that only in January.

That would be really nice! Like you could choose from the options between two different bikes or something...

If the WR list was shared between the physics, what do you guys think: could some levels have faster times with the "new bike" and other levels with the "classic bike", or would the classic bike dominate the list? ... maybe if the top speed of the new bike was a bit higher? :?:

For alovolt there's an AutoHotKey script by sunl in the spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... =436882564

It took some 30 mins for me to figure out how to map the alovolt keys to special buttons, but eventually I got it working. Here's a short how-to.

After creating the script open AHK and click ctrl+K for key history. Here you can see VK and SC values for the keys which you will need. So what you do is push the keys you need for alo, left and right volts and then find out their corresponding values.

The key you use for alo only needs the VKxx, but put both VK and SC to the left and right volt keys. So write them to the script like this, this is for the buttons I use:

Code: Select all

vkBA::
Send {vkC0sc027 down}{vkBFsc02B down}
ReDesign Cup 2
